Logan
As per Donovan’s instructions, I am supposed to come on my own. I am not stupid though. I have brought my backup. Jordan and Jex have come with me, but they have remained in a vehicle a good distance from the building.
Following the directions, I find a white two-story building on the outskirts of the city. Surrounded by a small area of wood and a remote human settlement.
I am ushered inside by a redhead vampire without any word exchange. Donovan is waiting for me inside, fitted comfortably on a green couch in the center of what seems to be the living room.
“I am glad you made it,” he says when I come in. A smile spreads on his lips.
You must be glad you mother-fucker!
“Have a seat,” he offers, waving to the other empty sofa in front of the one he is.
“I would rather not. I didn’t come here to a gross in a warm conversation and enjoy your company, you see. I have no time to waste. If you don’t mind, I would prefer that we go straight to the issue at hand,” I respond calmly.
“I see. Did you bring what I asked for?” he asks.
“Yes,” I respond, holding out the file containing the papers. The papers were in a bank and I had to go with Eric to get them. Making out duplicates that look exactly like the original ones, we kept the original ones and the ones ai have in my hands, are the fake ones.
“Let me have a closer look at them. I want to prove with my eyes if they are the real ones or not,” he asks.
“I won’t fall for this, Donovan. Let me have a look at Arya and prove that you have her here before I give you the documents. I want to know if she is alive or if the pictures you sent me were just to lure me here,” I snap back in response.
“I asked you to trust me, didn’t I? We have had business partners for a long time, Logan. I never break my part of the deal. That is why we make a great team. I won’t bring her here unless I am sure the documents are the real ones,” he says, his expression turning somber. I chose to have an ounce of trust in him for now. I hand him the file. He gives me a victorious smirk and goes ahead to open the file.
Scanning through the documents, my heart hammers through my chest. What will he do if he notices that they are fake?
I mage to keep my confident demeanor. He peaks up at me and goes ahead to read through.
“Where did you find these? We checked the pack house thoroughly before destroying it. How did you manage to get these original documents?” he inquires, closing the file.
“That was not part of the deal. I would prefer to keep my ways to myself. I don’t wish to tell you,” he gives me a side smirk and rubs his chin.
“You are such a man of means Alpha. I knew you would get them when I asked for them, and here they are,” his expression turns into a satisfied smug. I fight the urge to smash his teeth out with my fist.
“Do I get my mate now, and the others?” I ask.
“Sure, but there is one more thing,” he says, placing the file on the table in front of him.
“What?” I hiss through clenched teeth, feeling a surge of fury sweep through me. What more does this dick-head want?
“Don’t worry. It is just the last step and it is going to be simple,” he adds noticing the anger in my features.
“I need your signature and your fingerprints for purposes of proof that you consent to this deal as the new alpha of the Blue Blood pack,” he responds.
“I am not the Alpha of the Blue Blood pack, and I am certainly not going to take responsibility for the pack you are planning to turn into a wasteland,” I spit out.
“Ouch…” he winces and then grins.
“I thought you had accepted the responsibility when you showed up to protect them during the battle,” he raises an eyebrow at me.
“That didn’t mean what you have concluded, Donovan. I didn’t want to annex the pack before you destroyed it and I am certainly not going to annex it after you have made it a ruin,” I respond.
“I didn’t expect that from you, but, okay,” he nods. “Your mate seems willing to rule it as a female Alpha. Let’s see how quickly the pack can fall apart. I eliminated all its leaders; the Alpha, the Gamma, and the beta. Maybe she will be able to get a strong commitment to work with me. You wouldn’t sit back and watch your mate struggle alone, would you?”
“That is certainly non of your business as far as I am concerned. Since you have decided to intrude into the pack, why don’t you just own it, make your government, and lead it so that we can see how far you can keep it together? You think leading a pack is a joke, don’t you? It is not like a clan of Thirty-fifty members, it is a nation. There are children, and women that are vulnerable because they can give birth unlike the dead vampire women, there is a need for health care, we need food, and proper accommodation, and the list is endless because unlike you who are completely immortal, there is a time when our lives end. We have elderly members for that matter. So you can’t just think about ruling a pack like it is some convenient joke because you have no idea what it means!” I retaliate, letting the anger take control. He doesn’t add a word.
“Every pack is independent of the other when it comes to leadership. When the pack members come together, they will decide on their way forward. They will choose their leader,” I add, finally managing to calm down.
“There is no need to get emotional about that alpha. I thought you would want to annex it since the mining is going to do a lot of development to it. Trust me on this,” he says.
“I would like to end this discussion here. Where is Arya? You have got what you want. It’s time you fulfill your part of the deal,” I tell him.
“Okay, but she could still be asleep and as you threatened, it would be inevitable to touch her while I carry her down here,” he responds with a smug.
“Where is she?”
“Upstairs, second room from the stairs,” he replies. I don’t take time to consider if this is a trap or not, I just dash to the stairs.
“The door is locked,” she shouts after me. A key flies over my head and lands on a stair in front of me. Picking it up, I continue up the stairs.
Shuffling the key impatiently into the lock, I open the door. Arya’s scent welcomes me, flooding into my nose, and awakening my wolf.
There she is on the bed, coiled into a small ball. She is still in the dress I had sent for her to wear at our ceremony. I stay transfixed staring down at her laying still on the bed, lifelessly still…
NO!
My breath catches in my throat and I am scared to make a step closer to the bed.
Her chest heaves up, pulling in a breath followed by whining and soft moaning. I quickly reach for her.
She is convulsing severely and her face is gravely pale, sweet beads covering her forehead. A tear flows out of her closed eyes, and down her cheek. She looks so terrified, she’s fighting inside. I think she is having a nightmare.
Collecting her into my arms, I pull her to my chest. I try to clean off the sweat using the back of my hand but she contains to shiver.
“Arya,” I call out, shaking her gently. She turns her head and hits her hands tighter to her chest.
“Arya, it’s me, Logan. I am here to take you home. Wake up, baby,” I call out, shaking her more roughly.
“No!” she mumbles and then her lips shiver.
“Baby,” I whisper into her ear, but she doesn’t wake. She looks to be fighting for her life.
Leaving me with no option, I duck my head into her neck, licking my mark on her neck, and my fangs start to surface. I sink them into the scar, piercing her skin.
I feel her jerking awake. She pushes me off her with, surprisingly, a lot of energy. I lick my lips and stare into her fear-stricken brown eyes.
“Baby,” I murmur. Her eyebrows knit together as if she struggling to recognize me.
“Baby, it’s me, Logan. I am here to take you home,” I tell her.
“I know. Get off me!” her voice is hoarse.
Finding it difficult to understand the reason why she is reacting like this, I just get onto my feet with her secured in my arms.
“I am not letting you go, Arya. Not now, not ever,” I respond. She lands weak blows on my chest, fighting to free herself.
“Let me go! I hate you! I have you, Logan! Let me die. I just want to die!” she cries. I can not apprehend what is wrong with her but I don’t want to spend any more time in this house. Ignoring her strange need to be away from me, I carry her out of the room.
“I hate you! I don’t want to go with you!” she cries out.
I know you are not fine. Maybe you are just traumatized.
She stops fighting and her eyes start to droop. She blacks out.
I walk past Donovan towards the door.
“Where are the other women?” I ask him.
“My disciples have gone to bring them. I guess you don’t mind if they touch them, do you?”
I ignore them when see them being brought, both unconscious. One might even believe they are dead.
I strap them in the car tightly with seatbelts to make sure they are secured for the ride. I drive off into the main road.
Jex and Jordan are still in the car parked. Lowering the glass of my window, I give them a thumbs up to let them know that everything went well. With a nod, Jex presses the button on the remote.
There is a big and loud explosion that follows from where I have come from.
I planted a bomb in the bedroom where I picked Arya. A powerful bomb that I spent a fortune on this morning. There is fire even in the woods where we are. The whole area is clouded by dense smoke.
Take that, Donovan!
Let’s see if you survive that one.
A huge shit-eating grin spreads on my face and I can’t stop it.
Whore-son!
I can see the others feeling victory too in the car. With a nod, we drive away.
