Logan
This time when I attack, we fall into the fireplace, spreading the logs onto the ground. The fire stings but I can’t feel it because anger overshadows all of my senses. He kicks me off him and we both get back onto our feet. I am so tired of talking to him because I have reached the point of nearly running mad.
Shifting, I howl, a signal for the others who are outside. I reach for him, this time ready for a life-or-death battle. If I don’t get back my mate, at least I will have got rid of this mother-fucker who is just going to make all of our lives miserable.
I keep aiming for the neck because if that head gets off the neck, it will be the end.
My warriors swam into the cave. Donovan’s fighters are highly alert. They have blades. I had not seen them when I came in.
Jex comes toward us, his claws sinking into Donovan’s legs. He gets up with a smug directed at the two of us, the wounds disappearing immediately. This whore-son won’t die!
I know we are a lot more than the vampires but these creatures are the hardest to kill. We can not easily be assured of winning.
Jex and I fight to bring Donovan down but he is too fast, too strong. As the leader of his clan, he is the most powerful of all the vampires he leads. It will be ten times harder to kill him.
There are a lot of cries in here, sounds of blades, growls, and groans. Donovan’s friends are going down so quickly, but he is as fresh as we found him.
Another worrier comes to join us. The three of us encircle Donovan. All of us pounce on him at once but he is quick enough to dodge us before we tear him apart. Standing in a far corner, he looks at all of us.
Doing a quick transformation, he turns into a big hairy bat. The rest of his disciples follow suit, transforming into bats and flapping over us.
What the fuck!
They all flat over us, and into a crack on top of the cave, they disappear into the moonlight.
Cowards!
Fucking cowards!
We had beheaded more than half of them and we were surely going to finish them. It has been so long since I last saw a vampire transformation, I had totally forgotten about it.
They are gone, and we still don’t know where Arya and Eric are. When I think of it, they were not the only ones coming for our ceremony. There is her best friend and Eric’s mate. There were other members of the family that I had not yet met.
Fuck!
It would be equally impossible to track them in that form.
Oh, God!
I can feel all the hope leaving me. What if Donovan has killed the alpha, Eric? What if my mate is no more? Have the vampires won?
I close my eyes, feeling so tired of this. I am tired of this unending battle. I just want to find my woman and take her home, and be close to her so that I can be wrapped in her warmth.
Even my wishes sound like a dream to me. They seem to be light-years away from me. It feels so… Impossible.
When I open my eyes, everyone’s eyes are transfixed on me. They have all come this far with me but there is no sign of victory. We have come this far and surely we are not giving up now.
Remembering that I am the Alpha of the Blacktooth Guardians pack, I take in a deep cleansing breath.
They are all here waiting for me; waiting for my command. I am the only one who can give them hope, but I have lost hope myself. I have to keep their warrior spirits burning.
Giving out one deep howl, they howl with me. I feel better after that. With a bark, I head out through the opening through which we entered, with my warriors behind me.
My mind can only think of one place, the vampire residence. We are going there and we are going to leave everything in ashes. This is no war if there is no loss on their side.
Through the woods, we can trace the scents of the warriors Jordan led to protect the Blue Blood pack members that had fled to our pack territory. I can only hope that they made it safely and that Kurt and Cole have managed to defend the pack’s territory.
Heading back to the White Mountain, I dread my entire being. How did my life ever end up like this?
I remember Donovan saying that it should be fate to blame, but that would be crying over spilt milk. This has already happened; Arya is my mate and the Blue Blood pack is also my responsibility now.
When we reach the Vampire residence, we can see how it is turning to morning from up here.
This is going to be the longest night of my life.
The place looks exactly how we left it; still and lifeless. Doing one quick search throughout, we still don’t find anyone.
Without hesitation, we set the whole place on flames. Standing back at a distance, I reckon how the Blue Blood pack house was burning, and it is satisfying to watch this residence get consumed in flames. This is not even half the damage they have caused.
We stay to watch to make sure everything is in flames and surely nothing in there will survive except the stones that were used to build it.
I know around the entire land, the smoke can easily be seen from the top of this mountain.
Staring into the flames, I try to think of where Donovan could have gone. I have never really found an interest in knowing about the other vampire residences in this country. I can’t even think of any other place.
We finally decide to go home, maybe we will find something useful. I need to check on my pack. What if Donovan’s disciples attacked after we left?
Toward the Misty river, I smell blood mixed with a familiar scent. I just can’t tell whose scent it is. Following the scent, we land on bodies. It looks like a massacre occurred here. My heart sinks into my stomach when a thought crosses my mind that those are the ones we have been looking for.
All the bodies look lifeless but they have their heads attached to their bodies, only there are a lot of cuts on their bodies, cuts by blades. It is no doubt that they have been killed by vampires. I spot a familiar face. He is in a suit. They all look to have been smartly dressed… for our ceremony.
I now remember the face!
It is a bodyguard of Eric’s!
There is a small painful groan that is barely audible. If it hadn’t been for my werewolf senses, I wouldn’t have even heard it.
Spotting the body groaning, I dash to it. It is breathing, by lying on its front. I turn him, making him groan louder and wince in pain. With one look at his face, I shift immediately so he can know who I am
It is Eric.
He is breathing but he has very deep cuts on his chest and stomach.
“A-alpha–aa…” it is so hard for him to even talk, or breath for that matter. I lift him off the ground into my arms. We can still save him.
“Check if there is still any breathing body,” I command my worries who immediately go to work.
I look back at Eric in my hands who is on the brink of death. He has lost too much blood and these wounds would be difficult to heal before they get infected even as a werewolf.
He tries to pull air into his lungs, but it is so hard to lift his chest. I start praying that he shouldn’t die. I don’t want him to die, especially in my hands. It would feel like… As if I have killed him…
We manage to spot only three bodies with life in them. All the bodies here are males. There is no female. It gets me hoping that wherever Arya is, she is with the women. I really hope so.
Rushing to the Blacktooth Guardian’s territory with the few that we have managed to save, I order the pack’s doctors to come to my house immediately. Into the spare bedrooms, we put them. I quickly get Eric out of the sticky bloodstained clothes. He keeps wincing in pain, and I can almost feel how he is feeling. I cover him with the duvets not giving a damn that they will be heavily stained. The duvets can be replaced but Eric’s life can not.
A doctor rushes in with two assistants.
“Quickly work on him. Please save him,” I hastily tell the doctor.
“We shall do our best, Alpha,” he responds and goes on to check the wounds.
“Tell me if there is anything you need so that it is provided without delay,” I tell him, holding Eric’s hand, tightly.
“Arr–yaa,” he breathes, he is losing the air.
“Hush. We can find Arya when you are better. Don’t talk. It is so difficult for you,” I tell him. He closes his eyes and for a second I am terrified that he has gone. He pulls in another breath. I sigh heavily with relief.
A helper opens the case they brought with them and pulls out bandages and iodine. The assistants get onto cleaning and dressing the wounds while the doctor checks his vitals.
Part of me wants to leave because watching Eric struggle for his life is putting me on too much tension but another part of me wants to stay here and be with him; this is the weakest moment of his life and I am the only one who can hold his hand and be on his side through it.
“Are the others brought attended to?” I ask.
“Yes, alpha. I have come up with a big and experienced team. You don’t have to worry,” he responds with a nod.
“Good,” I mumble.
Watching them do their work, I am inspired to put more of the pack’s youth on scholarships so that they can go ahead and study such courses and be helpful to the lack in the future in case of such incidences.
“I have asked for some equipment from the pack’s hospital. They will be here in no time. He lost a lot of blood and he needs an x-ray check,” the doctor says. I just nod.
“But from what I see, he is strong. He will survive,” he adds, making me more assured. I hold Eric’s hand with both hands and lean my head on them praying.
Oh, moon goddess, please watch over my mate and save Eric. I have never felt so connected to the moon goddess the way I feel right now.
The sting of the wood on my bare stomach is what reminds me of the fact that I am still naked. I wouldn’t mind about that because everyone here is male, but I have blood all over me and it is starting to get sticky and itchy. I need to check on Jordan and all that have come here from the Blue Blood pack.
Reluctantly, I let go of Eric’s hand. He seems to have fallen asleep. I am relieved to see him peacefully asleep and being taken care of. With one look back at him, I head out of the room to take care of other things.
In my bedroom, I debate on whether to just throw on my pants and go out or first clean myself. It might take a while for Eric to get better so that he can give us clues on where to look for Arya.
I finally conclude with a shower.
