Logan
After being forced to talk to Eric, because Arya wasn’t home and I had to do it to wait for her, she finally comes. I was done waiting and I was on my way out when I found her being too cuddly with Mr. Best-friend. He must have loved her warmth because of the way he was holding onto her for dear life… I swear I would have ripped his damn filthy hands off if it hadn’t been for the presence of Alpha Eric. He dares to touch the mate on the Alpha of Blacktooth Guardians pack!
Arya looks thunderstruck like she’s just seen a ghost. Yes, I am here, baby and you just made me so mad. Against all my instincts, I manage to remain under control, and the imbecile gets to keep his arms.
“Arya, you’ve been out? I had no idea. Why didn’t you inform me?” Eric says verging on her with a brotherly command of responsibility. Arya’s eyes haven’t left mine since they landed on me. What is going on behind those beautiful wide brown eyes? Is she happy to see me? Did she miss me the way I did? Probably not, because she had the appetite to cuddle in another male’s embrace.
“I was just hanging out with Jex. He hasn’t been around and I missed him,” she replies. Fucking shit! Is she doing this on purpose? I can fucking hear that.
“Still, I should know,” he says, his eyes scrutinizing her body as if checking for bruises. “Jex, you can go now. Thanks for taking good care of her,” he tells the boy dismissively.
“Good night, Arya. I promise to keep in touch,” and with a nod toward me, he walks to his vehicle and we all watch silently for him to make his departure.
Arya turns his attention back to me.
“What are you doing here?” she asks.
“He came here to talk to me about something. Don’t be so disrespectful to my guests,” he scolds. Arya frowns but does not look sorry at all. All the questions I had about if she was missing me have already been answered and now I feel like total shit.
“He was just living,” he adds. She glares at me. What the hell is wrong with her? Is she mad at me for interrupting her little make-out session with the lover boy?
“I will be on my way now, Alpha,” I say, but my eyes are stuck on Arya. God! Why the hell does this have to be so hard? Where am I going without her? She is why I came here in the first place, but the way she is acting she loathes my presence.
“Have safe travel, sir,” he says with a small smile. I nod and walk past Arya, her scent flooding into my nostrils, awakening my wolf, my new for her, the craving…
Shit!
I can not let this get to me. I can’t let this disable my self-control!
Walking straight to my vehicle, my guard opens the door for me and I get in the car. I feel so packed up with emotion I might break down. Loosening my tie, I take in a deep breath. I don’t dare to look back at Arya because I know I will be disappointed. To hell with this! To hell with a mate who doesn’t want to be mine! To hell with this stupid chase. I think I should just let her go. What hasn’t she gone ahead to reject me if she doesn’t want me that much? Why is she letting this troll on? Is the doing this to hurt me? I know I can’t effort afford to reject her because she has already crept into my skin. She has stolen everything that I thought belonged to me: my control, my power, my body, my mind, my fucking everything!
The drive back home is too torturous and long. When we make it to the boundaries of the Blue Blood pack and Blacktooth Guardians, my phone vibrates. Reluctant to check it, I ignore it. It might be Jordan checking up on me. A few minutes later, I am unsettled about the text, so I pick up my phone.
It’s Arya.
I will be at the Misty river waiting for you.
Sweet heavens!
“Stop the car!” I growl, startling both my driver and guard. I don’t have to repeat my order. Stopping the car, I open the door hastily.
“Go ahead. I am going on a hunt,” I inform them and step out. Discarding my phone, jacket, shirt, and shoes in the car, I head into the woods, shifting gradually. Deeper into the woods, I shift fully letting my black alpha wolf go free with a loud earth-shaking howl. He knows what his mission is. There are no games when it comes to his mate.
Running into these dark chilly woods, my senses are heightened. To the misty river!
The river flows at a peaceful pace. It has existed all these years and has quenched the thirst of many wolves, humans, and other creatures of this land. It has witnessed a lot of initiations, wars, hunts, mating, and a lot of other things that only God knows to happen in these woods.
Walking along the river bank, I catch my mate’s scent. God! Her scent is a hypnotizing one. My wolf nearly goes fiddly with excitement when I spot her on the opposite side of the river, in the Blue Blood territory.
I take my time to admire her wolf; smaller than mine just like a typical vixen. It is a grey one with brown eyes just like hers. She jumps the stream in a pounce, finding me on my side. The last time she did that, was the beginning of the many times she will have to do it, this time without worrying about trouble from my side.
She comes closer to me and sniffs my wolf. There is something beautiful about letting the wolves take control; there is no holding back because it is pure animal instinct.
Our gazes linger on each other and our wolves connect immediately. She walks around me, carefully observing my wolf. I stay still until she is done. She walks into the woods, beckoning me. I follow after her. She turns regally and nods into the woods and that is my cue. She wanted to run and I am so up to it. I dig my paws into the earth and dart into the woods after her. She is taking control, and I love it!
She runs faster. She wants me to catch her.
My pleasure, baby.
It is both a game and a challenge. She wants to show me how much she wants to be chased. I don’t think I have to remind her of who is putting up to the challenge. I am no ordinary wolf. I am an alpha!
The trees blur around me as I race through the woods and the wind in my fur feels exhilarating.
Soon, I realize that I can’t trace Arya’s scent. She has masked her scent. Smart! I should have known better. The tracks she was living behind are showing different directions. It is a fucking trap. One mistake and I will lose her. I can’t let her win this challenge. I implore my wolf to dig deeper into its abilities.
I jump over a log and dive into a muddy puddle. Shit! Now I begin to worry about her. What if she has got herself lost?
Idiot! I scold myself for being paranoid and keep going deeper into the woods.
Hours have passed since we began our chase and this is beginning to become frustrating. I climb up a rocky hill where a catch a slim trace of her scent. I try to get a lock on my bearings. After all this zigzag, I might have lost her if I am mistaken by the trace of her scent I have caught.
My eats shoot up at a movement. Grey fur under a big fern front. There she is. I sneak up on her. Jumping out of her hiding, she breaks into a run. No! Not again. My teeth nip her paw while her legs fly up to pounce. She lands back on the ground with a growl.
Enough of the running, baby.
She looks wild, untamed. Dirt and debris covered her previously silky grey coat. I wonder how much of a mess I look, after diving into the mud puddle.
We begin to do a sort of dance, circling each other. Waiting for who will make the first move. We snarl playfully at each other. I charge at her, hitting her square in the ribs. We both tumble down the hill, smashing through rock and bramble, landing in a heap at the bottom.
I recover first and pin her. She tries to thrash and yelp but I have her exactly where I want her. My tail wags in excitement as my fangs come out. I let out a triumphant howl and lean down toward her neck. Arya shoves me off her with surprising force, catching and off-guard. Whoa!
