Logan
I woke up feeling strange today. I have never slept throughout the entire night, but I managed to, with Arya in my arms. This is uncharted territory for me. It’s scary, not because I have never let a woman sleep in my bed but because she makes me want to tie her onto it so that she never leaves. I could take my time exploring every inch of her body and slowly, I can get to explore all her pleasures and fears. I could mark her, make her the luna of Blacktooth Guardians, get her heavy with my hair, and then life would become Heaven.
I am still agitated by how reckless she is about her safety. Anything could have happened last night if Penny had not called me. Why did she call me? She could have called her brother or someone else. Why me?
The table has already been prepared for breakfast and I am debating on whether I should go upstairs and get her. She comes down the stairs looking fresh and gorgeous. My breath catches in my throat. Her beauty is breathtaking, and it is as if she knows it very well. She walks to the table and her eyes survey the food that is filling almost all the table.
She gives me an uncertain smile as she walks toward the table.
“Sit,” I say, pointing to the place that’s been set for her. She frowns at the amount of food on the table, which only accentuates my guilt.
“I didn’t know what you liked, so I asked for a variety,” I mutter as a way of an apology.
“That’s very profligate of you,” she says.
“Yes, it is.” My guilt blooms. But as she opts for the pancakes, scrambled eggs, and bacon with maple syrup, and tucks in, I forgive myself. It’s good to see her eat.
“Tea?” I ask.
“Yes, please,” she says between mouthfuls. She’s obviously
famished. I pass her the small teapot of water. She gives me a sweet smile
I have to catch my breath at her expression. And it makes me uneasy.
“I want to apologize for what happened yesterday,” she says. What?
“You already apologized and I made it clear it is not necessary.”
“Look, Penny calling you to come and check on me was totally uncalled for. There were other options that she would have called, you know.”
“You mean your brother or that good friend of yours that connived with you into breaking the rules?” She rolls her eyes at me. Did she just do that? My hand twitches to give a disciplinary service to this young lady.
“Can’t you just forget what happened? You have probably received your compensation of God Knows whatever you asked from Eric.” Her glare is intended to shoot blades at me, but I try not to laugh.
“Eric is a very busy man. Your friend gets it. I am your mate so I am equally as responsible for you. I think she wishes you to be here with me, don’t you think?” I raise a brow at her.
“You are totally mistaken, Logan, I am not officially yours. Nothing shows that I am yours. You can’t claim responsibility for me. I am not a child that I need someone to keep watch over me,” she retaliates. She is unbelievable.
“I don’t know if this is an invitation to mark you as soon as possible, pretty face,” I give her a side smirk.
“In your wildest dreams, alpha.” I can not help but chuckle.
“You make this sound impossible yet you are the one who woke up hoping that I had marked you and put my fangs in your skin.” She chews on her bacon and pretends not to mind me. Well, at least she is eating.
“Why is this place so quiet? I would expect some murmurs at least,” she says looking around the dining room.
“It is usually quiet in here. This is not a pack house. It is my house so I don’t expect anyone here without a role,” I respond.
“I am not surprised. It is kinda expected of your character.”
“You still think of me as you used to?”
“Used to? My mindset has never changed.”
She arches an eyebrow.
“Are you smirking at me, Arya?” I can’t hide my amusement.
Oh, she’d be a joy to tame…challenging, maddening woman.
She examines her plate, chewing at her lip.
“I’d like to bite that lip,” I whisper because it’s true.
Her face flies to mine and she shuffles in her seat. She tilts her chin toward me, her eyes full of confidence. “Why don’t you?” she says quietly.
Oh. Don’t tempt me, baby.
“Because I’m not going to touch you unless you beg me to. This is how it should be and as far as I know, you hate me and you don’t want to be mine.”
“You sound very sarcastic, alpha. I won’t be begging, trust me. Even when this mate bond gets strong and I am so needy, I still won’t beg you. Though I am pretty sure I know who will be doing the begging.” She gives me a coy look. I know she’s got me there. I lose all my senses when I am close to her. She is like a poison to my control!
A servant saunters into the room and we both fall silent. I nod and she clears the table. I note with satisfaction that Arya ate enough. I make a mental note of her selection. I hope it is her favorite breakfast.
“I would like to make a phone call,” she says.
“You don’t need my permission to do that.”
“I know, but I can’t find my purse.”
“I put it in my closet,” I respond. The door opens and Jordan comes in. His jaw almost drops on the floor when he sees Arya.
“She’s here? How? When did she get here?” he asks through the mind link, almost screaming.
“She spent the night here. It’s a long story. I will tell you later,” I respond. He ambles toward Arya who gets up from the chair to greet him.
“My luna, it’s an honor to finally meet you here. I have waited long enough for this moment.” Arya’s eyes dart from him to me. I wait for her to deny that she is the Luna of Blacktooth Guardians pack. She gives him a nervous smile and takes his hand to shake. There are some fumbles.
“It’s nice to meet you, too, beta Jordan,” Arya says. Oh, she knows him. “Please call me, Arya.” Ah, there it goes.
“Yes, my luna. Only that I find it disrespectful to call you by your first name, ma’am,” Jordan says, giving a small bend as a sign of respect. Arya looks very uncomfortable. I suppress a laugh. Get used to it baby!
“Jordan, you had something to say to me?” I jump in to save Arya from all the blushing.
“Oh, yes, sorry.” he lets go of Arya’s hand and approaches me.
“Um, I-I will be upstairs,” Arya stutters and walks out of the room. A huge grin covers my face, and I can’t control it. Jordan looks at me expectantly.
“I hope I did not interfere with anything when I came in,” he says apologetically.
“No, she was going to go when you came in.”
“Good, because I am curious as hell about what happened last night,” he says. Besides being my beta, Jordan is my closest friend and has been since we were little cubs. We got into a lot of trouble together and gave our fathers a lot of headaches.
“I brought her here last night on my way from work,” I respond, omitting the unpleasant details.
“And she accepted?” he looks doubtful. “It seems things are going well between the two of you. So when does Kate get to meet her? She’s been on my neck lately.”
“I don’t know. I am never sure of anything these days. It seems everything is just happening out of luck. She seems even impatient to run away from here when she gets a chance to,” I tell him.
“Oh, now that’s still a problem. I hope things work out for the two of you. I want you to be happy. I want you to know the joy of having a life partner who loves you unconditionally.”
“Thanks, dude. That sounds too warm for my situation but I sure hope so. If only Arya would quit being so stubborn,”
“I know she will come around. She is your mate despite everything. Fate is on your side,”
