Just as she was getting angry, the car turned back, and Lucas lowered the window, scrutinizing her up and down for a moment before saying in a deep voice, “I’ll be back at seven. I hope to see a well-prepared meal from you. Understand that you’re here to be my wife, not someone else’s translator.”
Amy ignored him in frustration, walking ahead without wanting to ride in his car or pay attention to his mood.
He didn’t say much either, just started the car and drove away, leaving Amy to walk alone. As the gravel kicked up by the car hit her, she winced in pain.
Lucas glanced in the rearview mirror and saw her long hair blowing in the wind, her white lantern-sleeve blouse and linen skirt making her look like a stubborn thorn walking alone on the endless road.
He lit a cigarette, slowed down slightly, then stepped on the gas, speeding away.
Amy met with the Alex Piente couple at the same café as before. Along with them were a foreign couple and two young men in blue suits.
“Amy, we are from the Saint Company,” one of the men stood up, looking a bit nervous as he addressed her.
“The Saint Company?” Amy knew about the Saint Company; it was a well-known company in K City.
“Yes, Naylor asked us to take over this business and prepared the service fee for you,” the man said, handing her a file folder.
Naylor, not Lucas, it’s Naylor? How did he move so fast?
Amy pinched the thickness of the folder; there should be about two to three thousand dollars inside. She felt tempted, at least she could go for a retest now. But, if Lucas was already intimidating, what if Naylor had ulterior motives?
After thinking for a while, she decided to keep the money in her bag. After all, this was a deal she had snatched from the Blue Company. She was entitled to a commission no matter which company she gave it to.
Seeing her take the money, the two men’s nervous expressions eased.
The Alex Piente couple wanted to take the two men to their coffee shop to see the venue, leaving Amy to talk to the Mike couple about translation matters.
After both sides agreed on a payment of two thousand dollars for three days, and seeing that the Mike couple was quite interested in history and culture, Amy suggested they first visit the museum in K City.
“Amy.”
Suddenly, a soft, slightly haughty voice sounded, and Amy turned to see a creditor approaching her.
This woman was Jessie Astor, with exceptional social skills and abilities. When her father’s funding collapsed, Amy had asked her for help to shift some money around to help out.
“Not bad, you managed to pay off all your debts in less than half a year, better than your dad,” she said, lightly patting Amy’s arm and giving her an appraising look.
Amy immediately thought of Lucas; if he was a major creditor, there was no escaping him.
Jessie took out a business card and handed it to Amy, saying, “Come see me sometime… You’re quite capable, serving a man together with his original wife.”
She said, casting a flirtatious glance at Mike.
Amy didn’t bother to explain; in many people’s minds, a woman’s success depended entirely on a man… Well, she was indeed relying on Lucas now.
Jessie then approached Mike and shook hands warmly, while Amy had to translate a few sentences. Jessie’s enthusiasm and seductiveness made Mike willingly take her phone number. Mrs. Mike didn’t seem to mind at all; she smiled and nodded. After Jessie left, Mike said, “If she can come to the weekend dance, she’ll definitely liven up the atmosphere. Doing business here, you have to adapt to our preferences.”
Amy was stunned for a moment, then suddenly had a revelation: instead of being passively beaten, why not take the initiative?
During the lunch break, Amy bought a cookbook from a bookstore and spent the afternoon taking Mike to tour the riverfront scenic area. It was almost dark by the time they hurried back home.
It was already ten to seven, and Mr. Lucas would be home at seven.
Amy hurriedly went upstairs and changed into a white silk camisole nightgown, wearing a white silk bra and white silk panties underneath. She pinned up her long hair and then quickly dashed into the kitchen, flipping through the cookbook and grabbing a bunch of vegetables from the refrigerator, piling them on the table.
While washing the vegetables, Lucas’s car pulled into the yard.
Amy tried to remain calm. Her goal was to quickly figure out Lucas’s intentions. If he was just in the mood to have some fun with a compliant and understanding toy, she would let him get tired of her sooner, so he wouldn’t bother her in the future. If he came on strong, she would act like a tiger disguised as a pig and use chili peppers to take him down.
