“The baby is what?” Amon had not even finished echoing that when he began to see clear fluid rushing down Nelly’s leg.
“What’s that, Nelly?” Amon asked, looking so confused even though he ought to know what it was. The state of panic took away most of his senses, and perhaps, his ability as he was stunned for a notable moment.
Amanda rushed into the sitting to meet the fear inspiring situation. She was quick to act and Nelly was rushed to the hospital.
On arrival, they saw Neuer dressed in a short sleeved sterile laboratory coat. He wore a sky blue long sleeved shirt under the coat and a well fitted black trouser.
“What’s going on?” He was surprised to see Amanda and Amon rushing Nelly into the hospital, aided by some Nurses who.
That happened to be the City’s hospital where Neuer practiced as a Neurosurgeon.
“Nelly’s in labor,” Amanda broke the News to him.
Neuer himself went into a state of panic. He was tense as though Nelly was his wife and she was about to give birth to their child.
“Please, Doctor, do whatever you can to ensure a very safe delivery.” Neuer beckoned to the Gynaecologist in charge of Nelly’s delivery.
Amon and Neuer kept pacing outside the delivery ward. They were distraught and fear stricken to the brim. At one point, Neuer almost forgot himself. He attempted to walk into the ward but then he realized himself and that was how he was held back.
“You guys need to take a chill pill,” Amanda said concerning Amon and Neuer.
“You don’t know how it feels.” Neuer paused to say, then he continued his pacing.
“Creak!”
The sound to the opening of the door of the emergency ward. Amon, together with Amanda and Neuer assembled all at once in front of the door.
“She needs her husband to be here with her. Mrs. Nelly specifically requested this.”
Amon forwarded himself even before the Doctor could finish speaking. “Let’s go in.”
Neuer didn’t want any drama or issue, especially now that Nelly was in this critical state. All he wanted for this phase to pass, for Nelly to successfully deliver her child.
“Come in, Mr. Neuer, ” the Doctor said to Amon.
“My name is Amon, not Neuer.” Amon was very quick to respond. He wasn’t going to ever be associated with anything that had to do with Neuer.
“I’m sorry, if you aren’t Neuer then you are not the one Nelly requested for.”
“I’m Neuer,” Neuer stepped forward.
At that instant, Neuer proceeded with the Doctor into the ward while Amon was left out with Amanda, sulking. He could not believe what had just happened. Maybe he thought he still had a chance with Nelly despite her telling him already that she was solely interested in Neuer. What Nelly did now was just clearing choosing Neuer over him.
“I’m here with you,” Neuer held Nelly’s hand firmly and said. He could see that she gained strength just by perceiving his presence.
“I’m scared, babe, I’m really scared.” Nelly was all sweaty, she gripped Neuer’s hand firmly.
“You should not be, Nelly. I’m here with you, nothing can go wrong. Whatever happens, whatever pain you feel, just remember that I love you so dearly.”
As Neuer spoke, Nelly didn’t even know when the pains began to become unnoticeable. It wasn’t that it faded away, but it did not matter anymore. As long as Neuer was there with her, she could face anything.
Nelly took a deep breath as she was instructed by the Doctor. There was a long moment of pushing, then the cry of a baby broke the deadlock. Neuer found himself smiling, his gaze intently focused on Nelly’s fatigued face.
“You did it Nelly! You did it!” Neuer was so excited and happy. It was as if he was indeed the father of the child.
Once the door to the ward was opened, Amanda rushed to hug Neuer. Even before he came out, she and Amon had already heard the cry of a baby, Nelly’s baby.
Amon left in anger after satisfying that Nelly delivered safely and she and her child were in perfect health.
Sandra and her secretary, Edgar, arrived shortly after to celebrate the birth of Nelly’s child.
“Where is Amon?” Nelly asked Amanda when they were alone in the car park, waiting for Neuer to come drive them home the following morning.
“He left yesterday. He was definitely upset, I could see that.”
Nelly was sorry for misleading Amon. She blamed herself.
“Perhaps I gave him the wrong impression and now he’s hurt all because of me.”
From the experience she had with Ivan, Nelly knew how it felt not to be loved back by someone you love.
Meanwhile, Mr. Stratford was getting acquainted with his newly found child, back there in America.
“I’m going to introduce you to all my business partners today,” he said to Ethan.
“Really, dad? You are not ashamed or worried that I’m the son of a maid?” Ethan asked with so much gratitude in his eyes.
“How can I ever be ashamed of my own son?”
Ethan hugged his father so warmly. Mr. Stratford could easily tell that he had been missing a father figure in his life, one that he could call dad. This was when he swore within himself that he was going to do his utmost best to make life easier for Ethan.
“What position are you going to give me in the company, dad?” He asked his father, Mr. Stratford.
“I’ll give you whichever one you desire. So tell me, which do you prefer?”
“I don’t feel worthy or deserving of anything, father.”
Mr. Stratford quickly hushed him. “You do and I’m ready to make you the CEO of my company.”
Ethan could not believe his ears, he jolted in excitement and hugged his dad.
“I’ll call my secretary right now, you’ll be announced as the CEO of Jace group of companies with the soonest effect.”
Immediately Stratford was focused on his phone, Ethan took out his and sent a text to an unknown number:
“THE PLAN IS UNDERWAY!”
