Chapter 272 Do You Believe Me

Book:The Revenge of My Alluring Wife Published:2024-6-4

Fiona looked at Evelyn, “What’s up?”
“I want to persuade you.” Evelyn bypassed Caleb and walked up to Fiona, looking calm. “To continue cooperating with the research institute.”
Fiona’s expression changed immediately, “And continue to be fooled by the research institute?”
“Of course not,” Evelyn shook her head. “I know it’s hard for anyone to change your decision, but considering how much trust the research institute places in you…”
“Wait a minute.” Fiona waved her hand to interrupt, “How dare you research institute say such things? Trusting me, or deceiving me, have you figured it out?”
Fiona’s cheeks flushed red, as if she were on the verge of boiling over.
“Evelyn, shut your mouth,” Caleb yelled.
The people nearby began to murmur.
“What does Evelyn mean? She’s openly speaking such words to Fiona.”
“Huh, who knows what her intentions are. The nutrition packet project was originally hers, and she bears a significant responsibility for the lack of oversight.”
“If she’s affecting our work, I won’t let her off the hook.”
“I think she’s trying to cozy up to Fiona. Too bad, she’s poking the bear.”
Evelyn glanced at the crowd, then confidently told Fiona, “It’s about trust.”
“And at the same time, I’m sorry for involving you without your consent,” Evelyn continued.
“What do you mean?” Fiona asked.
“Why Minister Caleb, despite having so much evidence, still let Spencer lead the nutrition packet project? Why don’t you think about this?”
Upon hearing this, Caleb’s heart started pounding uncontrollably. He wanted to stop Evelyn, but the next moment, he heard her quietly explain.
“This was our plan with Minister Caleb, crafted to draw the snake out of its hole.”
The evidence Evelyn provided was very cleverly arranged. It was just one piece short of putting Spencer in prison for life, so the nutrition packet project became a critical turning point.
Evelyn apologized again, “I’m very sorry. And there’s one more thing I’d like to clarify with you.”
The research institute was her grandma’s life’s work, and although she was eager to get rid of Spencer, she would never joke about the institute.
She glanced back at Harper.
Harper immediately understood and went to the corner of the laboratory, taking out two nutrition packets of different ages.
“These are the samples of our completed project. They were successful a week ago, but we kept them until now.” She spoke confidently about the project.
Fiona personally verified the samples.
The small molecules in the nutrition packets were easily absorbed, showing no abnormalities after five minutes, ten minutes, or half an hour.
Fiona glanced at Evelyn’s name tag, “Miss Taylor, you’ve successfully persuaded me. I’ll prioritize the research institute for the recent chronic disease cure project.”
“Thank you, Fiona,” Evelyn nodded contentedly.
“You’re welcome. There will be plenty of opportunities in the future,” Fiona left with satisfaction.
Everyone watched her series of actions, their eyes widening in surprise.
So… everything’s okay now?
Moreover, it seemed that Fiona was also interested in establishing long-term cooperation with the research institute. Caleb had only managed to secure two or three projects for one year during his negotiations.
“This is too amazing?!”
“The nutrition packet project ended perfectly, Spencer’s trouble was smoothly resolved, and a long-term cooperation with Fiona was established?”
“Damn, what a brilliant move. Quietly, why do I feel like she’s more suitable to be the minister than Minister Caleb?”
Caleb’s face darkened, and he glanced at Evelyn before leaving.
Seeing this, Evelyn solemnly reminded Harper, “Pay close attention to the consumption of reagents in the laboratory recently.”
Harper didn’t quite understand but nodded, keeping Evelyn’s words in mind.
After work that evening, as Evelyn stepped out of the office building, a black car stopped in front of her.
“Miss Taylor, my boss would like to invite you for dinner. Please get in the car,” said a man who looked like an assistant as he stepped out of the car.
“Your boss? Who? Tell him I’m busy.”
“Uh…” The assistant encountered someone refusing his boss’s invitation for the first time and was momentarily speechless. After a while, he reminded her in a low voice, “Miss Taylor, my boss, his last name is Knox.”
“Jesse?”
Just when the assistant thought she would immediately get in the car after hearing the name, Evelyn suddenly sneered.
“He dares to come and bother me again? It seems his brain hasn’t recovered yet. Tell him to continue his treatment.”
The assistant: “…”
The car window rolled down, and Jesse smiled, “Miss Taylor, what would you like to eat?”
Evelyn looked at him, feeling a bit speechless.
“I don’t have time.”
“No time?” Jesse frowned with distress and suddenly raised his phone, “Then Ellis must be very disappointed, right?”
“Auntie.” Ellis on the phone screen looked unhappy, “Ellis wants to have dinner with you.”
Evelyn: …
“Baby, are you hungry? What do you want to eat? I’ll accompany you.”
Evelyn gave Jesse a disdainful glance, opened the car door, and got in.
Just then, her phone rang.
Seeing the name ‘Henry’ on the screen, “Darling, are you…”
Before she could finish, extremely cold words came from the other end.
“Get out of the car.”
Evelyn glanced back subconsciously and saw the familiar Maybach. She quickly instructed the driver, “Stop the car.”
Jesse looked at her puzzled, “Aren’t we going for dinner? Ellis will be disappointed if you suddenly change your mind.”
“Shut up,” Evelyn glared at him coldly and then turned her stern gaze to the driver, “I told you to stop.”
The driver hit the brakes.
“Miss Taylor, we’ve stopped,” but the safety lock was still engaged.
Evelyn didn’t want to trouble the driver, so she gave Jesse a cold look, “Jesse, open the door for me.”

As soon as Evelyn opened the door to the Maybach, she felt a chilling air hit her face. She touched her nose, feeling a bit shaken.
“Darling, aren’t you supposed to be at work?” Evelyn closed the car door, her expression calm as usual.
Henry looked at her without saying a word.
Evelyn sighed and glanced at David, “David, get out of the car.”
David hesitated for a moment, then quickly left.
Evelyn sat face to face on Henry’s lap, “Henry.”
“Do you believe me?” Evelyn’s attitude was somewhat more assertive than before.
Henry paused, meeting her gaze, which was both fiery and tinged with a hint of grievance. He nodded.
Evelyn kissed his cheek lightly, “This is a reward for your trust in me.”
With that, she mischievously pinched his cheek twice, “And this is a punishment for your inadequate expression of trust.”
“But I didn’t do anything wrong. It always feels like I’m being accused of something,” Evelyn said with a hint of grievance,
“I got into Jesse’s car because Ellis wanted to have dinner with me. I didn’t want to disappoint the little guy,” Evelyn explained, “I was just about to notify you when you called.”
Seeing her sincere expression, Henry relaxed.
After a moment, he nodded, “Alright, I trust you.”
Now it was Evelyn’s turn to be surprised. She had only been testing the waters to see if she could change her situation.
And it worked?
She tentatively asked, “Can you trust me like this in the future?”
Henry replied softly, “It depends on your behavior.”
As for what behavior… Evelyn didn’t mind.
She nodded, “Can I go have dinner with Ellis now?”
“Yeah,” Henry rolled down the window and signaled for David to come back, “I’ll come with you.”
Evelyn: “…”
If he went together, wouldn’t he end up fighting with Jesse?
Jesse sneezed suddenly in the front car, and just as he had a bad feeling, Evelyn notified him that they were ready to go.
Ellis chose a popular restaurant, and it was crowded. They would have to wait for about an hour. Evelyn greeted Henry and happily accompanied Ellis to the nearby arcade to play racing games, completely forgot about the increasing tension between the two men outside the fence.
Jesse smirked, “Don’t you think Evelyn is happier without you?”
Ignoring his provocation, Henry casually stated a fact, “She dislikes you.”
The smile on Jesse’s face disappeared instantly, “Henry, you better not be too cocky. In a few days, I’ll take her away from you.”
At this mention, Henry’s expression became even more contemptuous, “With what identity? A brother she might not even acknowledge, or a cousin?”
“What are you talking about?”
Henry just gave Jesse a glance.
“Regardless of the identity, let’s wait and see.” With that, Jesse walked away to meet Ellis, who had already parked the car.
Henry tightened his grip behind his back, gritted his teeth, and said to David, “Go ‘take care of’ The Knox family’s business.”
David thought for a moment and nodded quickly.
“And,” Henry’s voice turned sinister, “Puncture his tires.”
What? Puncture the tires?!
David: “…” Boss, are you serious about such childish tricks?
Seeing Henry’s expression, David believed him and went to carry out the task.
