Parker’s eyes lit up, “What happened? ?”
The assistant shook his head, “No, Samuel indeed caused trouble as expected before, covering Evelyn’s cabinet in mud. But now…”
“Samuel is chasing after Evelyn, and to please her. He voluntarily cleaned all the mud from the cabinet and her clothes,” the assistant reported.
Parker: “…”
Caleb: “…”
Just thinking about the image of Samuel working is creepy enough, but now he’s trying to please!?
Parker realized the situation and became extremely displeased. After dismissing the assistant, he lost his mood even for drinking tea.
After a moment of silence, Caleb whispered, “What’s the hurry? Don’t forget, there are many people in the R&D department, not just Samuel who might cause trouble.”
If he remembered correctly, there was a survey in the neighboring city these days, and coincidentally, Samuel’s favorite basketball star was participating…
They exchanged a glance and both saw excitement in the other’s eyes.
On the other side, Samuel finished cleaning the last bit of mud and received the schedule for the survey. Thinking about the irresistible basketball match and looking at Evelyn not far away, he felt torn.
“Evelyn,” Samuel approached, “Are you really V God’s apprentice?”
“Do you need V God herself to explain it to you?”
Samuel: “Is that possible?”
“Well, it’s not impossible.”
Samuel’s eyes were sparkling, “If I can have a conversation with V God, it would be worth it in my whole life.”
“If that’s possible…”
“Daydreaming?” Evelyn’s eyes were indifferent, “But if you behave well in the future, I might help you apply to meet my master.”
“Thank you, Evelyn. I will definitely turn over a new leaf and be a better person.”
Evelyn: “…”
After a pause, Samuel proposed, “There’s a survey in the neighboring city recently, and I’ll be leaving tomorrow. Evelyn, wait for me to come back, I’ll be at your service.”
Seeing Samuel’s eyes filled with anticipation, Evelyn nodded casually and finally got him to leave.
The entire afternoon, Evelyn worked on organizing her work relationships.
She was the team leader of a research and development group in the R&D department, mainly focused on developing anti-cancer drugs. However, there seemed to be nothing pleasing about the project plan and research process.
Evelyn spent the whole night checking all the team members and related matters about research and development.
Last night after 10 pm, Evelyn sent a notice for a 7 am meeting.
The next morning at 7 am, she appeared in the office on time, and there was not a single person in sight.
Waiting for about half an hour, a girl with double ponytails walked into the office.
“Morning, Team Leader!”
The girl was Harper, knowledgeable in her field but quite lazy. Logically, she should have been the last one to arrive.
“No one here yet? Am I too diligent?” Harper also noticed this and smiled.
Evelyn, with a dark face, checked the time and asked in a stern voice, “Are they usually this late?”
“Um…” Harper thought for a moment, whispering, “Usually, I’m the latest.”
“Maybe they stayed up too late checking materials and haven’t woken up yet?”
Evelyn’s expression became even more serious.
If it’s not the usual time to arrive, and it’s not because they are tired, then it’s likely someone arranged this in advance.
“Where do you all live?”
“Recently, the project has been tight, so we’ve been staying in the dormitory. They are in the rooms next to mine.”
“Lead the way.” Evelyn stood up, opened a drawer, and took out a fruit knife.
Harper was instantly stunned, her heart pounding.
“What, what are you doing?”
“How about it? Thought I was going to kill someone?” Evelyn smirked, and her ice-cold smile became even more sinister.
“Rest assured, with my glorious youth, exchanging it for this .., can’t even describe what it is, not really worth it.”
After saying that, Evelyn walked straight out of the office.
Harper: “…” Although Evelyn’s tone sounded fine, she didn’t believe there was no murderous intent in that cold and fierce expression. And what did she mean by “can’t even describe what it is”? Clearly, they are all human beings.
Evelyn was already far ahead. She hurriedly quickened her pace to catch up.
The dormitory of the research institute was on the nineteenth floor of this building. It was called a dormitory, but it was actually a luxurious private apartment.
As soon as Evelyn entered the apartment, people in the corridor stared at her intently. Some had witnessed her and Samuel causing a scene, others had heard rumors about her. Now, seeing her in person, everyone was curious.
“What’s going on? She just dealt with Samuel yesterday, and today she’s going after the remaining few?”
“This woman is a bit terrifying, she’s even holding a fruit knife.”
“She’s scary, but those few aren’t easy to deal with either. It’s uncertain who will win or lose.”
“I hope it doesn’t really escalate to loss of life.”
“First, worry about this woman named Evelyn. The reason why the R&D department is called the Devil’s Office is because those people are all tough nuts to crack.”
Harper led Evelyn to Kester’s door. No one answered their knock, so Evelyn promptly took out a spare key and opened the door.
“Leader, is it really okay to just barge in like this?” Harper questioned.
“Okay? They don’t show up for the meeting, standing me up, that’s not okay, is it?”
Harper sighed.
On the spacious bed, Kester seemed to be still half-asleep. Evelyn walked to the window and abruptly pulled open the curtains. The glaring light penetrated the glass, mercilessly waking Kester.
Opening his eyes, he first saw Harper, furrowing his brows. Then, as he turned to look at Evelyn, he was almost startled off the bed.
“What the hell, are you crazy? Who let you in?” Kester exclaimed.
“The privileges of a team leader include raiding dorms, right?” She had researched the special rules of the R&D department the previous day, and this seemed to be one of them.
Kester, infuriated, retorted, “I’m a guy. Is it appropriate for you to barge into a man’s room like this?”
Evelyn gave him a once-over, shaking her head regretfully, “Didn’t really notice.”
Caught off guard, Kester glanced at her disdainful expression, then suddenly realized what Evelyn meant. He was instantly furious.
“Do I need to prove to you whether I’m a man or not?” he threatened, grabbing the blanket and shooting her a silent warning.
Evelyn, with a cold expression, approached Kester step by step. A fruit knife appeared in front of him. Evelyn tapped his face with it, saying icily, “If you dare bring it out, I dare to cut it.”
“Try me,” she added, her tone light. The contempt and disdain in her eyes were even more pronounced. Feeling the powerful aura emanating from Evelyn, Kester pursed his lips, not daring to argue.
After a standoff, he ultimately didn’t dare lift the blanket. He shot Evelyn a weak glance and asked softly, “What do you want, exactly?”
Evelyn answered succinctly, “A meeting.”
Kester sighed. Just for a meeting, she barged into his room and scared him like this?
“Do you still need to think about it?” Evelyn asked.
Having already given in, Kester stopped struggling and compromised, “You have to give me some time to freshen up, right?”
“Five minutes,” Evelyn said before leaving and heading to the other rooms.
The second man was named Joshua, who had a penchant for assembling models. When Evelyn barged into his room, threatening to throw his models on the floor, Joshua immediately surrendered, got up, and prepared for the meeting.
The third person was Ryan. After Evelyn exposed his weakness, he reluctantly returned to the office with the others.
There’s also a tech guy, Anthony, who really wasn’t present, so Evelyn had someone video call him.
As the meeting began, everyone still seemed dispirited.
“For the development of this anticancer drug, the institute places great importance on it. Why, after over a month, has there been no progress in the project?” Evelyn asked sternly.
Ryan scoffed, “Leader, do you even understand? Ever heard the saying, ‘You can’t make bricks without straw’? The required reagent, No. 05, hasn’t been delivered to the R&D department. How can we proceed?”
The others nodded in agreement at his words.
Evelyn promptly presented a record from the institute, clearly indicating the entry of No. 05 reagent. Although the quantity wasn’t large, it was enough for several experiments.
“If you don’t try, how do you know that these experiments won’t succeed? Do you have to wait until a large quantity of No. 05 reagent arrives before conducting experiments?” Evelyn’s sharp gaze swept over the group, “If the No. 05 reagent doesn’t arrive, will you just halt the project? Stop the research?”
Ryan pursed his lips, not responding.
Joshua and Kester exchanged glances and then lowered their heads. They had completely overlooked the entry of the No. 05 reagent.
After seeing the guilt in their eyes, Harper hesitated for a moment before speaking softly.
“Leader, it’s not their fault. Even if they had noticed the No. 05 reagent, the research couldn’t proceed.”
