Evelyn: “…” Her lips twitched, unable to retort.
“My blood being an antidote is due to my own strength, and it’s not a reason for you to abandon me. Frank, I’ll remember this.” Evelyn smirked coldly.
Meanwhile, Frank, hiding in the laboratory, suddenly felt a chill down his spine.
…
At that moment, a group of rough-looking men appeared in the hospital corridor. After inquiring, they turned towards Evelyn’s ward.
Nurses and other patients, witnessing the scene…
“What… what’s going on? Do we need to call the police?”
“Looks like they’re here for revenge. The one inside… should be a young girl, right?”
“Exactly, that girl was just bitten by a snake, probably still unconscious. Now a group of these men has come…”
“Too bad, even if that girl wasn’t poisoned to death, she’ll probably be crushed by these people.”
…
The door slammed open as a group of burly figures barged in. Seeing the intimidating individuals, Ellis’s little face turned pale, and he immediately jumped onto the bed, trembling as he nestled into Evelyn’s arms.
“Don’t be afraid,” Evelyn comforted in a low voice. She gritted her teeth, and when she turned her head, the fierceness in her eyes reached its peak upon seeing the faces of those people, “You scared my baby.”
“Heh!” A cold laugh erupted from the group of burly men. Then, a man only about four feet tall stepped forward. His icy gaze locked onto Evelyn’s face, “This isn’t something a dead person should be concerned about.”
Evelyn looked at Ellis, not daring to underestimate the situation. She discreetly felt for her phone. Just as she was about to call Henry, the man laughed again.
“Don’t waste your effort. The entire building’s signals are blocked.”
The man adjusted his black gloves and ordered, “Draw her blood for me. Move quickly.”
Evelyn looked at the syringes that suddenly appeared in their hands and finally understood their intentions, “So, you just want some blood. Why didn’t you say so earlier?”
She behaved generously and gestured towards a chubby man, “You come first. I’ll cooperate fully.”
The chubby man hesitated, looking at the man who was only four feet tall. With a swift kick from the shorter man, the chubby man reluctantly approached Evelyn. As he gazed at her fair arm, his expression turned fierce, and he forcefully plunged the needle downward.
Just as the needle was about to touch Evelyn’s arm, her other hand abruptly gripped the syringe. With a slight turn, the needle instantly pierced into the chubby man’s abdomen.
“Ah!” The chubby man let out a miserable scream. As he tried to step back to remove the needle, Evelyn extended her foot wrapped in bandages and kicked hard. The syringe, under the force, acted like a sharp knife, piercing through the chubby man’s entire abdomen.
“Ah… help…” The chubby man grimaced, emitting a few cries before succumbing to the pain and passing out.
The man who was only four feet tall was momentarily stunned.
“So weak?” Evelyn sneered, her eyes filled with disdain.
“Damn it!” The man roared in anger and dragged out a taller man.
Observing the situation, Evelyn shook her head, “It’s just a waste of time.” She gestured towards the group of men, “Why don’t you all come at once?”
With that, she ensured Ellis was safely placed in a corner and then slowly stood up.
Moments later, the cries of agony echoed through the entire corridor from the hospital room.
Meanwhile, David received news of Evelyn being bitten by a snake and was currently reporting to Henry.
Henry’s face darkened, swiftly discarding the files in his hands as he rushed downstairs.
David drove, speaking in a hushed tone, “Shadowguard found a mysterious organization from Country M in Memphis. Those people went to Madam’s hospital about ten minutes ago.”
“Faster,” Henry ordered.
David nodded, pushing the car’s speed to the maximum.
Witnessing the terrified expressions on the faces of the people in the hospital corridor, Henry stormed into Evelyn’s room.
Kicking the door open, he was instantly taken aback.
David, a step behind, halted at the doorway, staring at a heap of burly men lying on the floor in front of Evelyn. Considering Madam’s experience with being kidnapped last time, what more did they have to worry about? He shouldn’t have driven so fast, it’s dangerous to exceed the speed limit.
Evelyn hadn’t anticipated Henry and David to see this scene. Awkwardly withdrawing her foot, which was on the back of the four feet tall man, she forced a smile at Henry.
“Darling, why are you here?”
Henry’s face darkened, and his gaze shifted from her face to the bandaged wound on her lower leg. “Sit on the bed.”
“Uh, sure,” Evelyn didn’t dare to argue, sitting back down cautiously.
Looking at the short man, she felt somewhat regretful. Oh well, only stepped on him twice, it could have been more.
When Henry and David entered, Evelyn subtly moved her foot back to the short man’s arm. She stomped on it suddenly.
“Ah!…” The short man howled.
Evelyn quickly retracted her foot and, seeing Henry’s stern look, pouted, “I swear I didn’t use much force, he’s just too fragile.”
Henry’s eyes were full of helplessness, “Behave yourself and step on him when you’re healed.”
David, “…”
“David,” Henry spoke in a low voice, “Take these people back and interrogate them thoroughly.”
Then he looked at Ellis, whose eyes were sparkling in the corner. “Get Frank over here first.”
“Yes.” David shrank back a bit, intimidated by the suppressed anger in Henry’s words.
At this moment, outside the hospital room, a crowd of nurses and patients had gathered, shaking their heads in dismay.
“Tsk, they’ve been in there for so long,..?”
“Poor girl, she’s quite pretty. Let’s call the police, those guys look like devils.”
“That guy who just went in must be the girl’s boyfriend, right?…”
Before they could finish their speculations, the door swung open, and David laboriously dragged out a bruised and swollen big man. He took a breath, signaled his subordinates, and proceeded to pull the remaining people out one by one.
The hospital corridor was quickly filled with big men lying in all sorts of positions.
What… just happened?
The onlookers, who were full of various conjectures and concerns just moments ago, were now left in astonishment. What did they see? Those intimidating big men, who seemed like devils, had all been subdued?
If they remembered correctly, there was only a girl and a child in that hospital room. The child couldn’t possibly have been the one to start the fight.
This was simply unbelievable.
In less than ten minutes, Frank also hurried back. He pointed outside, “You got injured, and you went this rough?”
“Yeah, I got injured,” Evelyn suddenly looked at Henry with a pitiful expression, “Darling, I was so scared just now.”
Henry knew she was exaggerating, but when Evelyn reached out her arm for a hug, he went over with a serious expression and embraced her slender body, “Don’t be afraid.”
Evelyn looked at Frank with a slight smirk, loudly complaining, “He knew I was injured, helpless and immobile, yet he left weak me and Ellis here. It’s simply inhumane.”
Frank: ?
Helpless? Immobile? Weak?
Those nearly two hundred kilograms of muscular men lying outside, who took them down?
“Henry, you wouldn’t…” Believe that kind of talk?
Before the words were finished, Henry’s stern gaze swept over. He spoke in a low voice, “The research and development funds for next quarter, only one-tenth.”
“One-tenth?” Frank was devastated. “I can’t buy anything with just one-tenth.”
Evelyn stuck her tongue out at him. “That’s your problem. What does it have to do with us?”
“Darling, this guy is too noisy, throw him out,” she said to Henry.
Seeing Henry’s clear agreement, Frank shrugged, “Don’t bother. I’ll leave on my own.”
After saying that, he picked up Ellis, and left.
Evelyn, seeing the situation, smiled with joy. Henry stroked her head affectionately, “Satisfied?”
Evelyn wrapped her legs around him. “I don’t like the smell of disinfectant. Can we go home?”
Without hesitation, Henry nodded. He picked up Evelyn, enveloped her in the air-conditioned blanket David had brought, and descended the stairs step by step.
As the car door opened, Evelyn thought of Ellis and hastily clutched the door, “Where is Ellis? We haven’t taken Ellis with us yet.”
“Evelyn.”
Henry looked serious, “You can’t take care of him.”
Thinking of the mysterious appearance of the snake and the group of men who wanted to drain her, Evelyn wilted. Without confirming the situation, both she and Henry were unsure if there would be further danger coming for them. She couldn’t put Ellis in harm’s way.
Back at the villa, Evelyn suddenly regretted her decision. She felt like Henry had sealed her in the bed, and besides going to the bathroom, she was not allowed to leave the bed at all.
The fifth time she attempted to sneak out and got caught, Evelyn cried as she buried her face in Henry’s chest, “I think I need more movement.”
“Darling, look at me. Besides two extra holes on my legs, do you see any other differences?” Even Frank said she was fine.
Evelyn began to whine and roll around. Suddenly, Henry leaned down, whispering in her ear, “If you move again, I won’t even leave you the strength to move a finger.” The warm breath sprayed onto her, and Evelyn instantly understood what he meant. Her cheeks burned, and she obediently got off him.
“I suddenly feel dizzy, weak, and unable to get out of bed. I need to sleep. Goodnight.”
