Amidst the increasingly harsh comments, Quetzal’s expression had turned lifeless. She bit her lip and was about to speak when Yara uttered a light reprimand.
“Director, for the sake of our past collaboration, I can give you another chance.”
The director asked instinctively, “What?”
“No need for an apology. As long as they pack up and leave the crew right now, I can let bygones be bygones. As for Luna, she must be replaced by one of my designated close friends.”
Quetzal’s fists clenched tightly.
The director hesitated noticeably. The highlights of ‘Serena’ were mostly focused on Luna. He wasn’t sure if letting go of Quetzal meant he could find a suitable replacement in this lifetime.
Before the director could make a decision, Evelyn coldly spoke up.
“Yara, you can’t leave yet.”
“Why? Changed your mind?” Yara sneered, “Kneel. If you kneel, I’ll consider staying. I might even add an additional five million in funding.”
Five million! All the staff present look at her with fervent eyes.
Evelyn spoke sternly, “According to the contract, within eight hours before the start of the musical ‘Serena,’ actors are not allowed to leave for any reason, leading to an empty stage. In severe cases, compensation must be paid three times the salary.”
When Quetzal initially provided her with details about the contract, she inquired if all actors had similar clauses, and Quetzal’s answer was affirmative.
Watching Yara’s noticeably guilty eyes, Evelyn became even more certain. Gavin had already checked, the man invested ten million, but Yara’s salary was eight million. Their actions were downright disgusting.
“Who do you think you are? What qualification do you have to handle contracts between me and the director? Tsk, dreaming of being an investor without putting a single penny out yet?” Yara retorted.
Hearing her words and the possibility of an additional five million, the people looked at each other. The balance in their hearts had completely tilted, and their tone became acrid as they sarcastically targeted Evelyn.
“So many kinds of person exist in this world. But I detest those who like to daydream and consider themselves so highly, just a stupid person.”
“Heh, that pretentious investor’s posture is simply laughable. I don’t know how long she practiced it at home, disgusts me.”
“Whether the investment works or not, I don’t know. But causing trouble for others is definitely her specialty, disgusting.”
Quetzal took a deep breath, ready to retort. Evelyn’s hand covered her shoulder, pulling her back.
Just when everyone thought Evelyn and Quetzal couldn’t stand this mockery and were about to yield, the director’s assistant rushed in.
“Director.” The assistant glanced at Evelyn and Quetzal, paused for a moment, then joyfully spoke, “New investment arrived, fifty… fifty million!”
As the words fell, everyone present held their breath, staring at the director in shock.
The director was also dumbfounded, “What did you say… How much?”
The assistant swallowed, repeating, “Fifty million.”
In fact, he couldn’t believe it either, thinking it might be a scam. But just a moment ago, fifty million suddenly arrived.
People gradually came back to their senses, their expressions still stuck in astonishment.
What did the director’s assistant just say?
Someone invested?
And it’s fifty million?!
Then, everyone’s gaze turned to Yara. Among the people present, only she had this capability.
Yara appeared calm, but her heart had already stirred up a storm. The man she found as a new financial backer was usually stingy and careful. Even for a few million, he would make her earn it back through work. How could he be so generous this time? Yara furrowed her brows…
Worried about losing their jobs, people who had been concerned about their employment started praising Yara.
“Yara, you’re so mighty. Fifty million is probably pocket change for you, just a wave of your hand and you invested.”
“No wonder Yara had such confidence before. It’s really different when someone is pampering you.”
“Today, I finally understand how embarrassing it is to act arrogantly without strength.”
Yara tilted her head back, the smile on her lips now uncontrollable.
Listening to these inexplicable flatteries, the assistant, still confused, seized the moment of silence to loudly remind everyone, “Director, the investor this time is Evelyn from YR company. She had a condition when making the payment.”
The director asked, “What?”
The assistant explained, “The condition is to add a clause to the contract. Quetzal will be Luna’s exclusive actress, and the duration will be decided by Miss Quetzal herself.”
Quetzal, suddenly mentioned, was stunned. Her head exploded for a moment. She turned to look at Evelyn. She was her idol, no doubt, especially standing under the halo of the spotlight, like a deity, illuminating her path forward.
Before the director could realize who Evelyn was, Yara went mad.
“What did you say? Who invested?”
