“Director, the research institute notified you to attend a meeting,” he said.
“Why?” Evelyn asked.
“This company’s general manager has resigned,” Luke hesitated, then added, “Director, you might not know, but the company’s performance has been below standard for two consecutive years.”
Evelyn remembered the general manager, whom she hadn’t seen since her first day at the company.
“What does it mean for the performance to be below standard for two years?” she asked.
“If the company’s performance remains below standard for three consecutive years, the research institute will have the right to shut down this company.” Luke explained.
Evelyn sighed. Gavin, that scoundrel, had deceived her again!!!
With Luke in tow, she stormed back to the research institute. While the others went to the meeting, she headed straight to the top floor and smashed Gavin’s office door with a punch.
The loud noise startled Gavin, causing him to accidentally bite his tongue…
“Miss, I know you’re strong, but couldn’t you be gentler?” Gavin complained. That door was imported from S Country, and he had it shipped back using a private jet.
Evelyn glanced at him, feeling unsatisfied, and stomped on the broken wood until there wasn’t a single intact piece on the ground.
Gavin also realized that Evelyn seemed to be in a state of unrest. He quickly sat up from his recliner, eyeing her warily, “Who’s upset you?”
Evelyn didn’t speak. Instead, she dragged a chair from the corner and sat in front of Gavin.
She looked relaxed, but there was a stick in her hand.
From this distance, no matter which way Gavin ran, he couldn’t escape the stick in Evelyn’s hand.
“I…” Gavin was about to speak, but the stick in Evelyn ‘s hand landed squarely on his chest.
“Pretending to be dumb?… Are you satisfied with deceiving me?” Evelyn questioned sternly.
Faced with Evelyn’s interrogation, Gavin knew he was caught. He smiled, “That was just a test for you.”
“Those old guys have been eyeing the research institute for a long time. If your identity as the heir to the institute is exposed or I placed you in an important position, they’ll pounce on it quickly.”
Damn it, couldn’t he put her in a company with a normal economy? With the current state of this company, when would she be able to infiltrate the core of the research institute?
“If I’m safe now, I wouldn’t have shown up at the institute today.”
Gavin lowered his voice, “Did those old guys sabotage you?”
“Unless something unexpected happens, the trap is already prepared.” And it’s a massive one.
Gavin glanced nervously at Evelyn, unsure how to respond.
Just as he was worrying, Luke suddenly peeked out from the dilapidated door frame. “Director, the meeting is about to start.”
Evelyn’s icy gaze swept over Gavin’s face, and she murmured, “Well, you’re lucky this time..”
As she turned away, Gavin hurriedly shouted, “Watch out for Parker Donovan, the Minister of Economic Affairs.”
Evelyn replied coldly, “Thanks for your ‘kindness.'”
Gavin: “…”
…
As soon as Evelyn left the company, Colin followed closely behind and was now in the office of the Minister of Economic Affairs, Parker Donovan.
“Minister Donovan, you finally show up. I’ve been driven crazy by that girl for over a month,” Colin said, lighting a cigarette and taking a deep drag before slumping on the sofa.
Parker’s fat belly trembled slightly as he chuckled, “You’re getting more and more pathetic, Colin. She’s just a pawn thrown by Gavin, and she scared you like this?”
Colin smirked, buttering Parker up, “I still need your help.”
Parker sneered, “No matter how difficult she is, she’s just a woman. After today, I guarantee she’ll be begging at your feet.”
Colin imagined that scene and couldn’t stop grinning from ear to ear.
Meanwhile, Evelyn waited in the conference room for nearly twenty minutes before several well-dressed old men finally entered.
Parker’s gaze lightly swept over Evelyn before he spoke, “Today’s meeting is convened to discuss the fate of several companies associated with the institute.”
Upon hearing this, the heads of the subsidiary companies instantly grew tense.
Parker loved the feeling of controlling others’ fates. The sudden change in their expressions lifted his spirits.
“As we all know, the profits generated by the institute’s affiliated companies are intended to be reinvested in research. If a company fails to turn a profit, it’s as good as useless.”
His icy gaze turned back to Evelyn, “And useless things should be discarded.”
“Evelyn, the decision reached by the institute regarding your company is to shut it down within ten days.”
Evelyn leaned back in her chair, looking relaxed and indifferent, as if Parker’s words had no effect on her.
Seeing this, Parker’s expression stiffened, but he quickly concluded that Evelyn was simply being arrogant.
“If there are no objections, today’s meeting…”
