“Nothing, I just came back to grab a document for the boss. I’ll be leaving soon.”
But the air was thick with the smell of blood, and Evelyn noticed the crimson stains on the floor. “David, you’re lying to me,” She accused.
“Has something happened to Henry? Have you both been attacked?” She pressed, her voice trembling.
“Madam, there are certain things that are confidential in The Wilson Group, and I cannot disclose them to you.”
“This is all at boss’s orders.”
To hell with confidentiality! Evelyn pushed past David and headed upstairs, “If you won’t tell me, I’ll find out for myself.”
David hurried to intercept her, whispering urgently, “Madam, boss has been shot. Frank is performing surgery upstairs.”
Shot!!!
Evelyn felt her head spin, and the world was full of a deafening buzz, “Where… where was he injured?” She managed to choke out after a moment, her voice trembling.
David explained, “It didn’t penetrate his lungs, but the bullet is lodged between his ribs. The surgery is complicated.”
“I need to see him,” Evelyn declared, taking a few steps before turning back to David, “Was it because of the ‘Silent Reapers’?”
“Madam, how do you know about the ‘Silent Reapers’?”
“Grandfather mentioned them,” Evelyn furrowed her brow, “So, what exactly are the ‘Silent Reapers’?”
Now that Evelyn knew, David saw no reason to conceal it any longer.
“The ‘Silent Reapers’ are a small organization within The Wilson family. They are emotionless killers trained from a young age to follow one command: obey the Elder Council. If the head of the family commits an act that threatens the very foundation of The Wilson family, the ‘Silent Reapers’ will be deployed. The member of the ‘Silent Reapers’ who kills the head of the family gains the right to choose the next family head.”
Evelyn’s complexion drained of color as she finally understood the source of Old Mr. Wilson’s nervousness during their phone call. Faced with such a threat, who wouldn’t be worried?
With a serious expression, Evelyn ascended the stairs and asked in a low voice, “Why not go to the hospital?”
David replied, “Boss was injured in the car; no one will discover it. The Elder Council has eyes everywhere…”
He didn’t finish his sentence, but Evelyn understood. Going to the hospital would only further expose Henry’s situation.
Fortunately, the villa was equipped with comprehensive medical facilities, and there were no issues with the surgery and subsequent recovery.
Entering the makeshift operating room, Evelyn pushed aside the servant assisting and handed a hemostat to Frank, “Let me help you.”
Frank nodded solemnly and clamped down on the exposed bullet, exerting force to remove it. When the wound was exposed, blood gushed out instantly.
Frank panicked. “It’s an artery!”
In just a few seconds, Henry’s wound was covered in blood, obscuring any view of the tissue.
“Too much blood loss. If this continues, his life will be in danger,” Frank furrowed his brow.
David also panicked, “I’ll drive boss to the hospital right now.”
“We can’t,” Evelyn immediately refused. This villa might have been targeted long ago. Going out recklessly would be suicide.
Frank shook his head, “It’s too late. We can only start a blood transfusion now.”
With that, Frank’s expression turned grim. “Henry has a rare blood type. Although we kept some in reserve, there’s only 300 milliliters left after the last use.”
But 300 milliliters was far from enough.
“I’ll gather the staff and servants,” David said. But how could they find the rare blood type among dozens of staff and subordinates?
As David was about to leave the room, Evelyn suddenly rolled up her sleeve. “Take mine. I have the same blood type as him.”
In her previous life, Henry had repeatedly given her blood transfusions. She was well aware that their blood types were compatible.
Frank looked at her frail body, furrowing his brow imperceptibly, but there was no other option at the moment. He immediately began drawing blood.
When the blood bag showed 400 milliliters, Evelyn’s blood flow visibly slowed. Frank hesitated, about to remove the needle. But Evelyn grabbed his wrist with such force that it felt like her bones would break.
“Not enough,” Evelyn’s lips turned pale.
Frank: “The maximum limit for blood donation is…”
Evelyn cut him off sternly, “Don’t try to stall with those words.” She forcefully grabbed Frank’s hand and only let go when the blood bag reached 500 milliliters.
Frank didn’t want her to waste any more blood and quickly removed the needle.
For a moment, Evelyn’s vision turned pitch black. She remained silent but it couldn’t escape Frank’s gaze.
After the blood was transfused into Henry’s body, Frank instructed David, “Take her out to rest. Prepare eggs, milk, and some nutritious soups. She needs to eat more.”
Evelyn didn’t want to leave, but she knew that Henry still needed her and she had to get some rest.
