Zane’s face turned pale.
But this blow was clearly not enough for Zane.
Without saying a word, Evelyn’s slender fingers tapped rhythmically on the receiver, the steady ‘tap tap’ sound continuously transmitting to Mia’s ear.
Feeling guilty and provoked by the sound, Mia became more and more frustrated, “What do you mean, Evelyn? If you want to expose me, just do it. Your so-called evidence can’t shake me in the slightest.”
Thinking of the award yesterday, Mia taunted, “There was no sound in that video, right? If you’re curious, I can let you listen! Your dear cousin, what’s his name… Zane, right? He confessed to me in the most disgusting voice in the world. Ha! I could barely stand listening to it, it was already a mercy on my part.”
“Evelyn, watch out for the dogs around you in the future, or else…”
Mia’s hurtful words continued to pour out, and suddenly Zane grabbed the phone, smashing it violently against the wall.
With a loud ‘crack,’ Evelyn’s latest model phone shattered into pieces.
The color drained from Zane’s face, his teeth clenched, his eyes filled with resentment. After holding back for a while, he finally yelled, “She’s such a despicable bitch!”
“Now you know?”
“Yes. I know.”
“Now, look at the corner of the wall.”
Zane: “Huh?”
He turned his head, looking at the scattered remains of the phone on the ground, and nervously swallowed, “I didn’t mean to do that just now.”
Evelyn nodded understandingly, “I understand.”
Zane instantly felt his cousin was very empathetic. But before he could say something, he heard Evelyn utter a chilling voice.
“The latest model, the compensation will be deducted from your salary.”
“Ah… I’ve only been working for a month…” Zane wailed.
Seeing his concern, Evelyn shattered Zane’s dreams once again, “Not enough.”
“What?” Zane asked.
“That’s the latest model, a combination of a smartphone and a microcomputer. I’ll give you a 20% discount, so it’s 150, 000.”
“Evelyn!” The emotional wounds were instantly forgotten by Zane. He looked pitifully at Evelyn, “I suspect you’re extorting me.”
Evelyn narrowed her eyes, “Did I instruct you to drop the phone?”
“Um…” Zane lowered his head in fear, “No.”
“Then get out there and, work to pay off your debts.”
Zane had no choice but to leave.
As Evelyn organized the documents, a business card left by Master Brown suddenly fell down. During yesterday’s conversation, it seemed that this master had some appreciation for Zane’s work and even expressed interest in meeting him. After some thought, she made a phone call to Master Brown and managed to pitch Zane in just a few words.
…
Quetzal arranged to meet Evelyn at the mall in the afternoon.
As Evelyn stepped out of the car at the mall entrance, she noticed a haughty girl standing beside Quetzal.
Evelyn recognized the girl immediately. It was Molly Hernandez, the daughter of her elder uncle Norman.
Frowning, Evelyn approached them, “Quetzal.”
“Evelyn.” Quetzal took Evelyn’s arm and whispered an apology, “I’m sorry. I was already on my way when the school counselor suddenly asked me to go shopping with Molly, so I had to bring her along.”
Upon hearing this, Evelyn remembered that they both attended the same school. However, as she looked at Molly’s greedy expression, she couldn’t help but smirk.
In the world, ninety-nine percent of coincidences are actually calculated.
When Molly laid eyes on Evelyn, her intentions to treat her like an ATM machine were practically broadcasted through her gaze, “Evelyn, your outfit looks amazing. Is it the latest?” Molly reached out and felt Evelyn’s dress.
Whether it was the latest or not, Evelyn wasn’t sure. Her clothes were changed weekly by a dedicated person, so they didn’t last more than a couple of wears anyway.
Seeing Evelyn didn’t respond to her question, Molly rolled her eyes. What’s the point of pretending? Even the most beautiful clothes were bought with her grandmother’s money. Her grandmother was such a fool, giving all her money to Evelyn, the ungrateful wolf in sheep’s clothing. Her mom had mentioned that Evelyn’s friends all drove luxurious cars, so today she was determined to make some money off her.
“Since Quetzal wants to buy a dress, let’s go.” Molly confidently linked arms with both of them and marched into the mall, heading straight for the upscale section on the third floor.
Two days ago, Molly had already browsed through everything here, knowing which items she wanted to buy and which were the most expensive. She casually picked out two items for Quetzal before starting to choose for herself, “Evelyn, do you think I look good in this dress?”
Evelyn responded with a perfunctory “Hmm” before her gaze shifted to a white dress in the corner of the store. The fabric and cut of that dress were exceptional.
