“Thank you.” Evelyn hesitated for a moment and added in a low voice, “Mom.”
Ava was a bit surprised, and when she looked at Evelyn’s blushing face, she couldn’t help but smile.
“Alright.” She patted Evelyn’s shoulder, her expression suddenly serious, “If someone approaches you later, stay calm. Henry and I won’t tolerate anyone bullying you.”
Evelyn was a bit puzzled, but the seriousness in Ava’s eyes convinced her. Especially seeing those lingering glances directed at her, she realized that this family banquet might not be as simple as she imagined.
In less than five minutes, Evelyn saw Henry and David being escorted away. Henry’s face wore an unprecedented seriousness, which also made her feel nervous.
An aide of Old Mr. Wilson approached her, “Madam, the old master is waiting for you upstairs.” She nodded and obediently followed.
The two of them went up three floors together, then turned down a corridor into a study.
Six elders, led by Old Mr. Wilson, sat side by side.
“Are you the woman Henry married?” The first to speak was the senior elder of The Wilson Group family, whom Evelyn had encountered once in her previous life. This person was extremely conservative, and his actions showed no mercy.
Evelyn responded with a simple “yes,” and the man immediately slammed the table.
“It’s because of you that Henry is confused, neglecting even the fate of The Wilson family?”
Evelyn: ?
Shaking her head slowly, she replied, “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
Even though she didn’t understand what was happening, the simultaneous appearance of these six people indicated that something significant was about to happen in The Wilson family.
In her previous life, during those years, she had only seen these five people other than Old Mr. Wilson once, and that was when Henry was severely injured, and The Wilson Group was on the verge of bankruptcy.
Old Mr. Wilson was very dissatisfied with Evelyn’s answer and angrily said, “Stubborn as ever.”
“I objected to Henry marrying this woman in the first place. I begged you to intervene, but you turned a blind eye. Now, trouble has been stirred up!”
The other five elders exchanged glances, their expressions turning even more unpleasant.
After thinking for a while, the senior elder finally raised his head and said coldly, “Deal with her.” The remaining four elders nodded in agreement.
Old Mr. Wilson was shocked for a moment when he heard the decision…
Listening to them deciding her fate in just a few words, Evelyn burst into laughter., “Did you get my consent before deciding to deal with me?”
The senior elder snorted, “Just a plaything, you think too highly of youself.”
“An old guy like you truly believes you are a deity, having the authority to casually determine the fate of others??”
“You!” The senior elder was about to explode, “Call someone quickly. I don’t want to see this woman for a moment longer.”
The door of the study suddenly swung open. Evelyn initially thought someone was about to forcefully take her away. Just as she prepared to resist, her palms suddenly felt a warmth, a familiar touch. She looked up, and there stood Henry at her side, his sharply defined face holding a subtle hint of anger.
As Henry entered, the oppressive atmosphere in the room suddenly intensified.
“Henry, even if you plead for her, it won’t change the decision we’ve made.”
“Who said I was going to plead with you?” Henry asked in a cold voice, “I just want to ask you, when did the matriarch of the Wilson family become someone to be bullied?”
“What are you saying?” The senior elder exclaimed, standing up in excitement.
Old Mr. Wilson also scowled, “When did she become the matriarch of The Wilson family?”
Evelyn was also a bit bewildered.
Henry took out a black onyx ring and softly slid it onto Evelyn’s ring finger, declaring, “Now.”
Old Mr. Wilson sneered, “Nonsense, you’re simply talking nonsense.”
The senior elder’s expression seemed to wish he could chop off Evelyn’s finger.
Henry held Evelyn’s hand again. “Grandfather, I don’t want the word ‘warning’ to appear between us one day.”
Old Mr. Wilson clenched his hand tightly. Henry’s words were, in a way, a warning!
As they reached the doorway, Evelyn suddenly turned around, lifting her hand with the ring as if proclaiming her authority. “Please rest assured, everyone. I will fulfill the responsibilities of the matriarch in the future.”
“And, senior elder, I have to kindly remind you. I currently reside in Henry’s mansion, my name is on the household register. And the person on his marriage certificate is me. now the owner of this ring is also me. The position beside Henry has already been filled by me. Your granddaughter won’t have any chance. I won’t hand over the position to your granddaughter. So, please give up on that hope. I’m truly sorry.”
