Evelyn had an excellent memory, and she was certain that she hadn’t heard these three girls’ voices yesterday.
So, they were not from her office, or perhaps, not even from the company.
“Hey girls, the design department’s office is not a place anyone can enter,” Evelyn warned in a low voice. “The design concepts and inspiration for the new game are top-secret documents. Entering casually is equivalent to stealing trade secrets. If you get caught, you might end up in jail.”
The air in the restroom instantly froze.
The timid girl was already panicking, her voice trembling, “What should we do? If my parents find out I’ve committed a crime, they’ll definitely kill me.”
The other two were less concerned.
“Don’t listen to her nonsense. Except for her, who knows that we entered the office?”
“Right.” The knife pressed against Evelyn’s face again. “You better be honest, or I’ll ruin your face now.”
Huh! As if being honest would save her from facial disfigurement.
Evelyn only regretted not learning martial arts in her two lifetimes despite having acquired so much knowledge.
However, there seemed to be one move that could resolve the crisis at hand.
“There are three cameras installed in the design department’s office. Besides me, would there be anyone else who knows about them?”
The three attackers suddenly panicked.
Seizing the opportunity, Evelyn shifted her body slightly and swiftly raised her hand, adeptly catching the knife and redirecting it from her face to one of the girls’ necks.
“You!”
“Ah! Someone is killing. Someone is going to kill.” A sudden scream echoed from outside the restroom. The janitor, dropping her mop, ran away while dialing the emergency number.
Evelyn shrugged, a hint of helplessness in her eyes.
When she saw that all three girls were dressed like students, she didn’t want to escalate the situation, but now… it seemed to be out of her control.
Evelyn was about to leave when the tallest girl suddenly pulled out another knife from her sleeve, crazily slashing it towards Evelyn.
“Dare to call for help, bitch? Go to hell.”
Unable to dodge in time, Evelyn’s arm felt like it had been gouged, the pain draining color from her face.
The once pristine floor was quickly stained red with blood.
Damn it, when did she call the police?
Evelyn raised her head with an expressionless face, her eyes devoid of the previous kindness.
“You’re all adults, right? Well then, get ready to go to jail!”
Her serious appearance frightened the three girls, and they looked at her in fear.
Half an hour later, Evelyn, wearing a troubled expression, was recording her statement.
She wasn’t afraid of the police station, but she was worried about how to explain this to Henry.
Just as she began her second day at work, she found herself involved in such a big incident and got injured.
Quietly, she sent a text message to David.
‘How is my husband’s mood?’
David looked at the short message and then glanced at Henry.
David: ‘Seems not too good.’
Evelyn froze, typing another line on the keyboard.
‘I am at the police station.’
Receiving this message, David’s hand trembled, almost throwing his phone away. His reaction caught Henry’s attention.
“What’s wrong?” Henry asked.
David swallowed hard. “Madam said she is at the police station.”
Henry’s hand moved away from the documents, looking at the contents of the message David showed him. His face darkened.
David dared not lift his head.
“Go and drive.” Henry dismissed the meeting and then silently pushed his wheelchair downstairs.
Throughout the journey, David didn’t dare to breathe loudly.
…
Meanwhile, in the police station, a male officer had just finished compiling Evelyn’s statement when a female officer from the next room walked in.
She glanced at the written record and sneered, “Abduction?”
“That’s not how they put it. They all claim that you deliberately injured them. The janitor is a witness, and their parents have already arrived. Not only did they hire a lawyer, but they also want to charge you with murder.”
Murder! Huh! What a big accusation.
