Blake’s POV
Bella’s entrance into the office caught both Sandra and me off guard. Her frown indicated that she had overheard parts of our conversation. Drake, my wolf, added a layer of tension with his commentary, “Seems like our mate overheard your conversation with her best friend. The frown on her face means that she heard something she wasn’t supposed to.”
Sandra, looking surprised, exclaimed, “Bella?”
The room fell into an uneasy silence as Bella confronted us. “I heard you telling Professor Blake that you came to his office to talk about what happened between the two of you last night. So I’d love to know what happened between the both of you,” she said, crossing her arms with a deep frown.
Sandra, sensing the gravity of the situation, tried to clarify, “Bella, it’s not what you’re assuming. I came here to discuss some concerns I had about you. Professor Blake was just helping me understand some things.”
Bella’s skepticism remained, and I could see her patience wearing thin. Sandra’s attempt to divert the situation seemed feeble. I needed to diffuse the tension without revealing the personal details of the previous night.
“Bella, it’s not what you think,” I interjected, choosing my words carefully. “Sandra and I were indeed talking about something personal, but it has nothing to do with us. It was a private matter that Sandra needed advice on, and I was trying to offer guidance.”
Bella’s eyes narrowed, and she looked unconvinced. The air in the room remained thick with suspicion, and I could feel the weight of the situation.
“I don’t buy it,” Bella responded, her tone a mixture of disappointment and frustration. “This doesn’t explain the awkward atmosphere and the urgency in your whispers. What’s really going on here?”
Sandra shifted uncomfortably, realizing that the situation was slipping out of control. I took a deep breath, choosing honesty without divulging unnecessary details. “Bella, I understand how it may seem, but trust me, Sandra and I were discussing her personal matter. It wasn’t about us. I respect your trust in me, and I never intended to cause any harm.”
The room remained tense as Bella processed my words. Sandra, realizing the potential damage, added, “Bella, I’m sorry if my presence here caused any confusion. It was never my intention to create problems between you and Professor Blake.”
The room fell into an uneasy silence as Bella stared at Sandra for a while before diverting her gaze to me. She said nothing as she gave me this strange look as if she was trying to read my thoughts and find out if I was lying.
“I believe you, professor Blake.” Bella finally said, and I became surprised but I didn’t make it obvious.
“You believe me?” I asked without sounding surprised.
“Yeah, I do,” she replied with a nod. “I believe everything you said.”
“Thanks for believing me, Bella. I really appreciate it.” I said with a forced smile.
Bella covered the distance between us and she unexpectedly wrapped her arms around my neck, ignoring the fact that Sandra was also in the office, staring at us.
“I’ll always believe you, professor Blake. After all, you’re my mate, and you belong to me, so I have to trust you at all times.” Bella said with a smile as her arms remained wrapped around my neck.
I glanced at Sandra, and I noticed her frowning at me and Bella. Judging by the look on her face, I could tell that she was jealous of how close Bella was to me.
I averted my gaze to Bella, and I managed a fake smile before replying, “I’m really glad to hear that, Bella. I’m glad you trust me.”
“Have a nice day, professor.” Sandra said, then she walked out of the office without sparing Bella a glance.
“I have to get going or else I’ll be late for my morning class.” Bella said, and she gave me a brief yet passionate kiss on my lips. “See you later, sweetheart,” she whispered into my ear before unwrapping her arms from my neck.
She stepped away from me, and she blew me a kiss before walking out of the office, shutting the door on her way out. As the door closed, I couldn’t shake off the sense of relief mixed with guilt. The aftermath of that unexpected interruption left a lingering unease, and I couldn’t help but wonder if Bella really believed what I said or not.
“Blake,” called Drake, my wolf.
“What?” I retorted telepathically as I walked over to sit on my chair.
“Do you think our mate believes everything you told her earlier?” Drake asked.
I sighed, grappling with the uncertainty. “I hope so, Drake. It’s crucial that she does. I didn’t want her to get hurt by the truth. If she found out that I had sex with her best friend, I don’t think we’d be able to make or have a good relationship.”
Drake’s voice held a skeptical tone, “You know secrets have a way of coming to light, especially in our world. You have to be careful, Blake.”
“I know, Drake. I never intended for things to get this complicated,” I admitted, running a hand through my hair. “But I’ll do my best to make things right.”
Drake’s presence in my mind was a constant reminder of the wolf within, urging me to be mindful of the consequences. As I sat in my office, a mixture of emotions – relief, guilt, and uncertainty – swirled within me, leaving me to ponder the complexities of the tangled web I found myself entwined in.
The weight of the situation settled on my shoulders as I contemplated the choices I had made. The trust between Bella and me was fragile, and I couldn’t afford to let it shatter further.
My main objective was to get intimate with Bella, and I knew achieving that objective would be impossible if Bella found out about my lifestyle as a Playboy. This made me really worried, and I silently prayed and hoped Sandra wouldn’t tell Bella about our affair.
