Chapter 41 His judgement.
” Lyn?” Treven called but I replied with a lazy grunt as I turned to the other side. I was feeling so tired even though it was morning already and I was yet to leave the bed.
“Lyn!” He called again, this time with a strict voice. ” What? Let me sleep” I covered my ears with my hands and I tried to block his voice out. It was partially his fault that I was tired, if he had not ravaged me like that yesterday I would probably have had more energy but not that I was complaining though.
” You need to wake up so you can have your breakfast,” He said with a soft tone but all I did was groan at him. I just wanted to sleep more, what exactly was his problem?
” Give me my calming tea” I mumbled not bothering to turn around and face him even though I was fully awake. I was tired still, I should have my calming tea at least.
” No! You won’t be drinking that again” He snapped and my eyes flew open immediately. I sat up and I stared at him in shock, he looked a little bit angry but handsome still. Looking at him so early in the morning brought butterflies to my tummy especially… Damn it! I shouldn’t be thinking about that. I should be angry, he just told me I can’t have my calming tea.
” Why? It’s the only thing that calms my nerves” I whined with a pout but his expression only hardened more.
” No, that cursed tea doesn’t calm your nerves, it harms you, and I am supposed to protect you, You won’t be taking any strange tea without enough supervision from now on. I don’t want my son to grow up without his mother” He rambled with a Stony expression but weakness was all over his face. I cut him off before he could continue because I didn’t understand what was happening and why he was suddenly that way.
” What happened?”
” Nothing, they will be punished accordingly. You need to get ready soon, we are attending the court meeting together today” He said brushing my question off without looking at me. We are back to going back and forth with each other and it’s his fault again. I thought he changed, why is he acting like this?
” What is with your expression?” He asked but I didn’t answer him as I made my way to the bath where Annalise and other maids were waiting for me already. Wait, Annalise?
” What are you doing here?” I asked as one of the maids helped me out of my robes and my undergarments. They helped me into the pool and Annalise sat behind me to gently scrub my body. ” I thought I excused you from maid duties”
” I do not wish to retire anymore, that way I will be able to protect you and still be your friend.” She said gently massaging my neck. I frowned at her words, what exactly was wrong with everyone this morning? Are they treating me like a porcelain because I’m pregnant?
” What going on Annalise? Don’t lie to me”
She sighs before opening her mouth to speak. Turns out Meisi has been putting some ingredients that will make me barren inside my tea and that was why Treven got defensive this morning. I started laughing at Annalise’s horror, It was funny really. The joke is on that stupid woman, Even without her tea, I was Barren for eight years in total. How can many cups of whatever make me barren overnight? I just pity the other consorts, no wonder she was the only one who bore a child for the King. Selfish human being.
” Sucks to be a stupid woman I guess, No wonder Venny was strange this morning” I smiled as Annalise nodded, as she continues scrubbing my body.
” Don’t mind him. He has been blaming himself for not paying enough attention to you. When you get to the court today, do not try to influence any of his judgment okay?”
” He won’t kill Meisi, right? And Amaranth too, she is just a poor servant” I turned around to look at Annalise but her expression confirmed everything I needed to know.
” Amaranth will be beheaded for sure even though she was just following orders. Well as for Lady Meisi, consort or not, She will face the same fate. She crossed the line this time around” Annalise said with a serious expression and I shook my head unable to believe what she said. Treven wouldn’t kill the mother of his children, even though I don’t like the woman, I do not want her to die and leave little Aria and Estella.
” Treven! We need to talk” I said immediately after I entered the dining room. I was dressed in a Traditional Nayaki dress. I only wrapped a sash around my neck to cover my shoulder and chest. Annalise was holding a large robe in case the weather got unbearable.
” What is it, my queen?” He said in a melodious tone and I almost falter in my steps. Sweet Natalí, save me from this man’s pure seduction. I cleared my throat and I regained myself. I folded my arms and I stood in front of him directly.
” You won’t kill Meisi, right? And the poor maid?” I asked and he only smiled and played with the end of my sash. ” They tried to hurt you, Lyn, What if the tea was poison aimed at your life, not your womb?”
” But I’m fine, and I’m standing in front of you with your baby, just fine. Please don’t kill them” I huffed, his smile was getting on my nerves.
” I’m sorry but no one touches the mother of my child” He stood up and I moved backwards until he had me pinned against the table. Forget about the poison, this man will be the end of me.
” Aria and Estella, are they not your children?” I asked and he held back staring at me in confusion.
” Yet you want to sentence their mother to death. We can decide on her punishment but it won’t be death” He nodded his head but he started coming closer again. His scent assaulted my nostrils and I felt every part of my body responding to his proximity.
” I love it when you challenge me like this” He whispers, his mouth dangerously close to my neck. ” Meisi will be sent to the winter palace but the young maid won’t escape death”
” What? No! Winter palace is too cold and the girl is innocent you can’t just…”
” Shhhh” His breath fanned my neck and I bit back a moan. I won’t let him know how much he is affecting me. ” Or they both die” He whispers once again before covering my mouth with his so I won’t say another word. That sly man! After having enough of my lips, he drew out a chair for me by himself and I sat down. He snapped his fingers and the maids entered once again to serve us the food.
” But this is unfair you can’t…” I cried out but he only gave me another smirk. ” Continue talking and I will find good use for your mouth, it won’t be my mind this time around”
I could feel my ears turning pink and the maids also blushed in secondhand embarrassment at his words. But I haven’t gotten my point across. I didn’t want to influence the courtroom like Annalise said, that was the reason why I raised it during breakfast instead but this sly man had another plan up his sleeves.
For the first time, I was sitting beside him on his throne. I could feel the gazes of all the ministers on me but I could also read fear on all of their faces. They all looked like they couldn’t wait to get out of the room. Meisi, Amaranth, and two other girls dressed in maids attire were dragged into the hall and an eunuch read their crimes aloud.
Half of the court was mortified, they couldn’t believe that someone would try to harm their Queen while the other half was just uninterested in the case, they knew what would happen and they supported it. After the king’s judgment on all of them, they were dragged out of the hall. Meisi will be imprisoned at the Winter Palace while the other servants will be beheaded for their crimes. It was unfair but I can’t do much about it.
” Your majesty! You can’t do this to me! I am the mother of your children! You can’t treat me like this! Your majesty!” Meisi’s screams faded away as the guards dragged her out of the hall. Even her father, Minister Li hid his face in embarrassment at his daughter’s behavior.
” Your majesty. An ambassador from Ruqgu is requesting an audience” A eunuch announced from the hall entrance. My heart skipped at the mention of Ruqgu.
” Ambassador? I don’t remember inviting one but Let him in” Treven shrugged his shoulder while I broke out in cold sweat. What if?
” Lord Patrick from the house of Gattar at your service your majesty” A familiar voice I know too well spoke and I felt all blood drain from my body. What exactly is he doing here?
