Serena kept staring at Anna as Anna brought out the ingredients of what she wanted to prepare. Anna randomly beams at her as she goes ahead and does what she had in mind.
After about 1 hour, she finished everything and then served it on a tray—one for him and the others. “It’s all done.” She clapped her hands.
Serena got up from the kitchen stool and walked up to the dinner she just prepared. She made to open the covered plate, but Anna slapped her handoff.
“No! Don’t open it. You can check out yours later,” Anna said to her.
She covered the plates tightly, then went to the fridge, and she brought out a jug of water and a glass cup. “You carry the water. I’ll take the dinner.” She said to Serena and quickly picked up the tray of food.
Serena didn’t have a chance to protest as Anna left the kitchen immediately. She sighed, went to the jug and carried it with the glass cup, then followed Anna from behind.
She followed Anna to the dining area, where Anna placed the tray down. “His right-hand man meal, he’ll love to eat with him. Go bring it,” Anna said to Serena.
Serena scoffed inwardly, unhappy about the whole thing. She returned to the kitchen and brought Beta Adam’s meal, then placed it on a dinner table.
Serena heard a noise coming behind her. The voice of Beta Adam. “I called them,” Anna winked at Serena.
Serena huffed out this time. King Zed and his Beta sat down not too far from each other.
Serena stood quietly with her head lowered. Anna didn’t even bother to lower hers, and she held her head high with a huge smile. King Zed and his Beta opened their plates to see the food placed right in front of them.
“Pancakes and tea?” Beta Adam asked, lifting his head to stare at Anna. He knew she was the only one who knew that they would both like it.
“Yes, it’s late already, and you guys need to rest. Pancakes to hold your stomach and tea to relieve you of your stress. It’s not easy flying down here from LA. I know that fraction,” Anna said.
“Nice choice,” King Zed mumbled. Serena quickly snapped her head up, and she looked at him in shock.
So he complimented her? Does he even approve? Serena thought, fuming. She can’t believe he did compliment someone’s cooking. She peeled her eyes off and took it down again.
“Who’s idea was this? I know it must be Anna’s. You are one of the best cooks I know,” Beta Adam also complimented.
Serena scoffed a bit more loudly this time, but since she was standing and facing Beta Adam, he was the only one who heard her. He stared at her for a while as he ate his pancakes.
Serena started tapping her foot on the floor, eagerly waiting for King Zed to dismiss them. She wanted to leave there because she couldn’t bear the anger rising inside of her. She couldn’t place her hand on what it is exactly, but she knows she is damn violent and maybe envious.
Serena continued tapping her foot on the floor, drawing all attention to her unknowingly.
“What is it?” King Zed questioned, drawing Serena’s attention to him. She immediately stood satisfactorily.
“Nothing, I’m sorry.” She apologized.
King Zed dropped his cup of tea. “Why don’t you both join us at the table?” King Zed inquired.
Serena looked at him in surprise. “Really? I’d love to, let me bring my dinner. I’ll be right back,” Anna giggled and immediately left.
“Yes, master,” Serena answered. She equally left for her meal.
Beta Adam kept staring at her in amusement, not willing to look away as she left.
“What is it?” King Zed groaned.
“Oh. nothing, your Highness.”
“Then why the face?” He snapped.
“I just think your slave looks a bit disappointed, and I was wondering what was on her mind.” Beta Adam answered.
King Zed took his gaze away from his Beta to concentrate back on his meal. He hadn’t noticed that.
Anna was the first to run back into the dining room. She wanted to sit close to king Zed, but Beta Adam stopped her.
“You can’t sit that close to him. Sit on the next chair,” Beta Adam ordered.
“Oh.. okay,” Anna responded. She took the other seat but was still very close to king Zed because she moved her chair.
Serena came back with her meal. Without asking, she glared at King Zed’s closeness with Anna, then sat down in front of Beta Adam and began eating slowly.
Even though the pancakes were wow, she wanted so much to comment on them, but because she was angry, she just ate without appreciating it.
“Your name is Serena, right?” Anna turned towards Serena’s direction and questioned.
“Yes,” Serena grumbled.
“Okay, Serena. You are the first that have tasted what I made without complimenting it.” Anna stated.
Serena stopped eating, and she lifted her head to stare at her. Even Beta Adam stared at her. His guts were telling him what was going on inside Serena’s head.
“I… didn’t I?” Serena stuttered.
“No, you didn’t. I thought you were going to do that, but you didn’t? I’m disappointed, but it’s okay. Maybe you don’t like my pancakes, but I promise to make a lot of meals you’ll love before you leave,” Anna smiled at the end.
Now, Serena was feeling so uncomfortable as King Zed had also looked at her.
“Uh… okay, your pancake is great. I’m sure the rest of the food will be as great,” Serena admitted.
“Thank you.” Anna thanked and returned to her meal.
Serena shortly returned to hers too.
“Who made today’s dinner?” King Zed suddenly asked.
“I did,” Anna answered.
“Next time, you should let her do it while you assist her in the area that she needs.” King Zed instructed.
“Yes.. yes… of course,” Anna stuttered. She turned to stare at Serena, who was trying to hide the huge smile on her face.
Beta Adam didn’t fail to notice what happened. Anna might be a bit confused, but he understood everything perfectly well.
Silence followed the rest of the time they spent dining. King Zed was the first to leave the dining, followed shortly by Beta Adam. They were leaving just Anna and Serena there.
The smile on her face has returned. She was grinning. Anna didn’t fail to notice this.
“Are you that happy?” She asked as she drank her water.
“Huh,” Serena stared at her, acting all innocent.
“Nothing,” Anna said. She took her plates and left for the kitchen.
Serena packed both kings Zed’s and Beta Adam’s plates before leaving for the kitchen.
She got to the kitchen and started washing the plates almost immediately.
“When did you start working for him?” Anna entered the kitchen, interrogating.
Serena turned to look at her before answering. “It’s not been too long. Just a few months now,” Serena replied.
“You?” She asked.
“Four years now,” Anna answered.
Her answer came as a shock to Serena. She left the plates she was washing to concentrate on Anna. “Really?” She exclaimed.
“Yes. It’s been four years, I started working for king zed when I was 19, and now I’m 23 years.” Anna explained.
“Oh, you are young,” Serena admitted.
“Yes. I am. And you are equally young, and you look younger than I am.”
“Yes, I am now,” Serena admitted.
“Which work do you do for him exactly? Are you his cook over there?”
“No, I’m not his cook. From the beginning, I wasn’t, but now he only eats the food I make back there,” Serena grinned.
“Only you make? So he eats only your food? Woah, your food must be great then. I originally heard four different ladies prepare the meal he eats, and I’m surprised you are the only one now. You must be a great cook. Which university did you study in?” Anna questioned.
Serena opened her mouth to speak but shut it again.
“I guess you don’t want to tell me your secret. You are afraid I might steal your secret recipe. It’s okay, though. I am one of the five best cooks here in New York, I have a lot of clients I cook for, but I mostly enjoy cooking for this man and his men.” Anna narrated.
Serena picked more attention. She entirely focused on her this time.
“I heard he is some royalty back there? Is it true?” Anna asked.
“Yes, it’s true. That King Zed is a king,” Serena revealed.
Anna’s mouth flew open.
“Ahh? Woah, no wonder. His behaviors are just like a king’s behaviors though I think he is starting to loosen up a bit,” Anna revealed.
“His behavior?” Serena asked curiously.
“Yes. I think King Zed is starting to soften up. He has never invited me to the dining table before, and I’ll say this is the first time I’m eating with him.”
“Really?” Serena asked.
“Yes, but I guess it’s not your first time, is it?”
“No, it’s not.”
“I guessed so. So I can also guess you were the one who allowed us to the same dining table with King Zed. I can also guess that he is softening up because of you.” Anna said.
“Huh, what do you mean?” Serena’s eyes widened. Her cheeks have turned red from embarrassment.
“It’s the truth. I think King Zed cares for you, though I’m a bit disappointed. I’ve wanted to win him over with all my charm, and I ran all the way here when I heard from his right-hand man that they are currently on their way.” Anna clicked her tongue, leaving Serena dumbfounded.
“You are lucky,” Anna added.
“Since he likes you to this exact, he might even marry you.” Serena’s face turned severe immediately.
“You shouldn’t say such things. You might be penalized when it’s out for King Zed to hear.” Serena warned, not finding what she said anywhere funny.
“Oh, sorry. I guess I missed it, the way he looks at you constantly at the dining. He is a man, and you are a woman; as much as I’ll love to disagree with this but I honestly think he likes you. I hate it, but it’s true,” Anna said again.
“Anna, please stop; you might end up putting us both in trouble. I don’t want to get punished, okay? Please stop saying such barbaric kinds of stuff.” Serena warned again, then returned to washing.
“I’m sorry. I’m also unhappy. But aren’t you supposed to jump for joy knowing that royalty, a king likes you or finds favor in you? You should be so proud of yourself. I guess beauty doesn’t win a man over,” Anna ended sadly.
Serena turned to look at Anna again in disbelief. What the hell is this human girl trying to do? Put me in detention of some sort. Will she stop saying nonsense? Serena thought.
“I’ll wait for you in the sitting room. Be fast so I can show you your room.” Anna confided before leaving the kitchen.
Serena exhaled deeply in relief. She has caught the king’s scent, and it’s not very far, he might be listening to them, and yes, he was. He heard from afar all the things that Anna said without missing a word. Wolves’ ability to hear something from afar is incredible.
When Anna stopped talking, he started pounding on all she said—asking himself if they were true or not. He started heading back to his room as he thought deeply.
Beta Adam, who was also watching him from afar, snickered. He had also listened to Anna’s and Serena’s discussion. Something to talk about with Elena I think I should report this. His Highness is changing faster than we all assumed. It’s is so unbelievable but sweet. King Zed is tremendous. He thought as he equally walked back to his room.
I can’t believe that’s someone like Serena. A mere slave who cooks for King Zed could change him.
