Chapter Five: Pack Unveiled – Back To School.

Book:Mated To A Vampire Published:2024-6-4

My bed is more comfortable to lay my body on, since my day went well. I transformed into a wolf, knew more about werewolves and vampires and got a promise that all secrets will be revealed.
My eyes widely open as my cellphone makes a sound – I had set an alarm beforehand. I quickly grab it and turn it off. I decide to roll on my bed more because of the comfort it gives still, but there’s a knock on my door. I blink my eyes, deciding to ignore it. It is mum that rattles my doorknob that way. Others can ring the doorbell. A cringe-inducing sound reverberates in my ears as the doorbell rings with a jarring volume.
“You can come in.” I uncomfortably utter as Dad turns the doorknob and walks inside. As I sight him, my lips lit with smile and I spring up from bed, pulling him for a hug.
“Did you sleep well, little werewolf?” He runs his hands though my hair, and plants a kiss on my forehead.
“Isn’t it so obvious?” I chuckle.
I clear my throat, “is it time to return to high school?”
“That’s what a normal person will say.” Dad affirms, pulling out of the hug and sitting in bed.
“Well, I’m not a normal being.” I retort.
“That’s not why I’m here.” He resents.
“Your mother is not yet awake. We could have been here together.” He further mentions. “I promised to show you what a pack house looks like. I think we can go there now.”
“Fine, but what about school?”
“I know but we can only get there by noon or evening.” He says and pauses. “Don’t ask me why though. Just accept. Would you follow me to the pack house? I have a few more tasks to complete.”
“Like, strangle a rogue or lead other warriors in battle?”
He rubs my cheek, “little wolf, I’ll show you what a vampire looks like. When the moon goddess connects you with your mate and it’s a wolf, we’d be glad. Otherwise, learn about them first.”
“I know where you are coming from.” I assert.
“You do not.” He sniffles, and rises to his feet. I clutch a few clothes to myself as we both leave my room and after I lock it, we descend the stairs just to see mum awaiting our arrival at the living room. The moment I see her figure waiting for us can only be best described with a word – creepy.
“I wanted to leave a note for both of you but I can voice out now.” Mum says, still at an arm’s length to us.
“What’s that?” Dad inquires. I hold his hands, not wanting him to walk up to mum.
“I need the car to get down the street for some cookies.” Mum speaks.
“Can’t you make them yourselves?” I ask. Dad shushes me and I slowly sigh.
“I and Sophia will need it to get her to a safe place in school. Evergreen?” Dad says, waving his hands at her. “Remember?”
“Yeah. True. A few dollars will provide the amount of fuel you need for the journey.” She responds, now approaching.
“You know my passkey.” Dad tells her, moving towards her direction while I follow him behind.
He pats her back, “refill the tank before we arrive.”
And just like that, we walk out of here. He walks very quickly till I can’t resist the urge not to talk, anymore.
“Learn to be quicker than I am.” He tells me before I say a word.
“Wouldn’t we get into the car – or something?” I ask, feeling concerned.
“Last time I checked, wolves that just transformed aren’t deaf or daft.” He insinuates. I now understand the point of their conversation now. Dad forcefully grabs my arms as we run to the depths of my street.
“I think we’d get into some woods?” I curiously ask.
“It’s no longer ancient for us. We build different types of houses, like normal people do. Just a slight difference though.” He responds.
“I don’t believe the difference is slight. Where normal people live will definitely be far different from where wolves live.”
“Sophia, there’s a thing you don’t get. We don’t live in packs in our wolf bodies. We shift only when need be.” He tells me as I notice a werewolf at the entrance of a colossal building. I walk down more but he calls me back.
“Do you want it to tear me to pieces?” I ask, not looking back.
“Come, Sophia. Here is the pack house I told you about.” He mentions as I revert my steps and follow him inside the building. The werewolf growls but submits when it sees Dad.
“Now, this falsifies your statement. Do me a favor by clarifying yourself – wolves don’t live in their bodies when in packs except need be.” I quote him.
“Except need be, yeah. That’s a fierce wolf that secures this pack. He’s Ran and he has his team – up to twenty other wolves that secure here too and obey him. I’ve told you more than what needed to be heard. Now do me a favor in return.”
I shrug my shoulders.
“Keep your lips shut.” He requests. I roll my eyes at him but follow him anyway. Some normal people walk beside me but I remember now that they are wolves and it scares the hell out of me.
“That’s the Alpha, Karl.” Dad points at a figure with ten fierce and powerful men escorting him to his district. “Let’s not greet him. So far you’ve moved, what can you say about a pack house?”
“It looks like a normal building from an exterior view. Otherwise from an interior view. People walk around like they’re innocent as their faces dictate, but being reminded about who they are, creeps me out.” I tell him and he chuckles softly at my words. I observe more before I continue.
“I can see that the officials here are treated well and the military section is doing fine. Also, there are up to a hundred wolves in this pack. Big indeed. One speckle though.”
“And, what’s that?” He genuinely asks.
“If I had gotten in here without knowing it’s a wolf’s building, what would be my lot?” I inquire.
He briefly looks at a different direction before looking at me to reply, “there’s a wolf at the entrance to scare you away. Also, if you fight the wolf as human and succeed and get in, then you’ll experience the trouble you seek.”
“Let’s go home now.” He suggests after a few minutes in the pack. I don’t agree and we stay for several more hours before I suggest it myself.
We reach home quickly as expected as all the necessary item I need to school properly had been arranged inside the boot of the car. I walk in to take a few clothes but mum bumps into me.
“I made the arrangements correctly, you don’t need to return to that room.” She weakly says.
I slip out of her hands, and ascend the stairs to my room. Her words are true but there’s a thing behind it – I see a bottle filled with blood around the corners of my room. I shake my head in irritation as I throw a kiss at my room and descend the stairs.
I pull her in for a hug and get into the car. Dad’s been expecting me, unknowingly to me. I wave my hands at mum, slipping my phone out of my pocket and taking a snapshot of her. As I do, dad brings the car into motion.
