“Harvey, do you hate grandpa?”
George Brown’s sudden words caused the smile on Cornel Brown’s face to freeze on his face.
This answer, he didn’t want to hear at all, Harvey answered that he didn’t hate it he didn’t believe it, if he said he did, he didn’t want to hear it either ……
Harvey was confused and just looked at George Brown in confusion, “Why should I hate Grandpa?”
He knew that Cornel Brown had done something wrong, but those things were not directed at him, and he had no reason to hate, and certainly no reason to like.
George Brown was speechless for a moment and shook his head after giving him a look.
“Harvey, Great-Grandpa was actually quite selfish too, worse than you might think.”
Right now, for example, he was using a child to impress upon Cornel Brown his own mistakes, and to make him see for himself what he had lost because of what he had done wrong.
Harvey didn’t understand, but still grinned up and said frankly, “If that’s the case, then Great-Grandpa must have had something in mind, and it’s not as if what you’ve done is meaningless.”
So for better or worse, it was enough for him to know that George Brown was his great grandfather and had done nothing to hurt him.
George Brown stiffened and couldn’t help but smile in response.
“Harvey …… sometimes I really don’t know if I should be glad you’re a child or otherwise, all in all …… you’re so nice now.”
At least he was willing to treat him and Cornel Brown with a sincere heart.
Harvey was suddenly embarrassed by the compliment.
Cornel Brown said cautiously from the sidelines, “Harvey, would you …… let me hold you?”
“Yes!”
Harvey immediately opened his arms and flung himself into his arms.
The little one was soft and a little milky, a smell that depressed himself every time and made him acutely aware of the fact that he was a child.
Cornel Brown truly felt the warmth of the little one in his arms and his eyes couldn’t help but redden slightly, “Harvey, thank you for forgiving me.”
“Grandpa, what’s wrong with you?”
“No, it’s nothing, Grandpa’s just happy.”
Cornel Brown immediately withdrew the emotion from his face and squeezed a smile out of him.
Harvey giggled, “Yes oh, occasionally when Mummy is too happy she will nestle in Daddy’s arms and cry and then pout …… so is Grandpa pouting with me too?”
“Yeah oh.” He nodded.
For the first time Cornel Brown felt what a blessing it was to have a child around.
He had thought countless times about what it would be like when he met Harvey and exactly what it would take to get Harvey to forgive himself, but at this moment he had to be acutely aware that his world was too complicated.
Harvey, as a child, didn’t know anything yet, and he was thinking of putting it all on him and thus trying to second guess his feelings.
He really was a bad adult, he thought, so bad that he would doubt the sincerity of a child ……
George Brown leaned back against the rattan stand and took a deep breath, his lips curving slowly into a nice curve.
“Harvey ……”
“Great-Grandpa.”
Hearing the movement, Harvey immediately withdrew from Cornel Brown’s arms and then said softly, “Just say what you want to say, I’m all ears.”
“Promise me one thing, will you?” He looked into his bright dark eyes.
Somehow Harvey always felt a little strange and eerie.
Just nodded subconsciously the moment he met his gaze.
“Promise me that whatever conflict your daddy is going to have with your grandfather in the future, or whatever they have going on between them, don’t get involved, you just go and do what you want to do.”
Harvey blinked.
George Brown’s eyes grew deeper, “Harvey, I know, you’ve always been a good boy, so you must know what to do, right?”
“Yes!”
Harvey nodded heavily again.
George Brown took a deep breath of relief and the grip on his hand loosened a little.
Harvey hesitated for a moment, but in the end he said softly,”Actually …… I think you misunderstood Daddy, great grandfather?”
“Misunderstanding?”
George Brown’s eyes were a little muddled, as if he was bracing himself to listen to him.
Harvey shrugged his head, “Because Great Grandpa keeps asking me if I hate Grandpa, if I hate him, and what kind of animosity there really is between Daddy and Grandpa, but it never seemed to me that Daddy thought of it that way.”
The Logan Brown he knew would never have brought it up voluntarily, nor would he have thought to recount it over and over again.
Cornel Brown’s eyes flashed, “That’s because your daddy never thought to bring me up.”
“Then he could have told me, if he really hated you he wouldn’t have told me nothing.”
Every adult wouldn’t want their child to come into contact with an elder they didn’t like, and Logan Brown had never brought that up, he just didn’t touch Cornel Brown himself, he didn’t restrict him.
George Brown listened a little confused, “So …… do you think your daddy is into grandpa?”
“I don’t know.”
Harvey shook his head but the next second was firm, “I don’t really know what’s going on but the only thing I do know is that Daddy never wanted to hate Grandpa, he probably just didn’t know how he was going to get along with him or didn’t know what to do to be nice.”
Cornel Brown slapped his head bitterly, “Harvey, that’s because you’re young and you don’t understand …… yet”
“Don’t you dare doubt Daddy!” Harvey gritted his teeth and looked at him, not allowing questioning.
The gaze on the little man’s face looked exactly like Logan Brown’s as a child, and for a moment Cornel Brown almost thought he was mistaken.
While he was still confirming it, George Brown had let out a low laugh.
“Yeah, well, we were wrong …… Cornel, you and I were wrong ……”
“Dad, what do you mean by that?”
“Because we both misunderstood Logan, we always thought he was hating on you and that’s why he rejected you, but we never thought that it was our own attitude that was driving him further away from us ……”
Because of their mistrust, because of their rejection, because of their selfishness ……
Everything was enough to separate them as father and son without being able to go back to the beginning.
George Brown’s face was white, but he still looked at him and said, “Cornel, if you have time, take the time to ask Logan what he thinks of it, Harvey’s right, we’re just forcing everything we think on him. ”
And they never really knew Logan Brown or wanted to understand him ……
