CONNOR
Grace’s phone wasn’t going through at all.
Ever since the news broke out early this morning, I had been trying to reach her. I called her mobile over a hundred time and that of her home countless times but she wasn’t answering either.
I paced in my office restlessly wandering if she had seen it. Dumb. She must have seen it, definitely. How she would be feeling at this point was what was eating away my guts at this point.
Marcus had rushed into my room this morning to bring me the news and gave me information on me it’s source. I was about calling my lawyers to sue that damn newspaper and make them never print a word as long they live, when I discovered my mother was the one who tipped them off. She was the one who gave to those leeches the fake news about me in a bid to force me into marriage.
I already told her I had absolutely nothing to do with Angela anymore, and I had no idea both of them still kept in touch.
Grace was my priority right now. I would deal with my mother and Angela later but for now, I had to meet Grace and let her know that I would never think of leaving her for any stupid ex.
Yes! A stupid ex, is what she was. Angela was the most narcissistic creature I had ever come in contact with. She was always so obsessed with her looks, herself, the attention she was getting from the public, what they think of her and what not.
She’s on heavy-make overs every second of the day, despite the fact that she had surgery on some parts of her body, she still has countless editing apps on her phone, and spends almost ninety percent of the money she makes on clothes and accessories. She takes getting more followers on her social media pages to another level.
Urgh.
I couldn’t stick with such a person, even though she was the last woman on earth. Someone who didn’t even realize that there are people around her as well, that she wasn’t the only person on the planet.
She bought skin products more than food, changed clothes countless times in a day. I get she was already a celebrity and all when we met, but I had no idea that was the sort of person she was inside. Tabloids carried it immediately we started going out, and it immediately boosted her popularity.
My mother who was over the moon that I had finally decided to be with someone when she saw the news asked to see Angela right away.
Celebrities and pretense go hand in hand, so yeah, my mother was smitten by her at their first meeting. I don’t know how the slimy wench manages to do it, but she knew how to make people love her, until they see the real her, which they rarely ever do.
When I broke it off with her, she made my mother torment me with different kinds of silly threats, reminding me of how influential Angela’s family was. My mother who isn’t a tiny bit aware Angela didn’t love me at all, she was in love with my money, my looks and the popularity being my date gave her.
But it’s all in the past, and I cannot let someone as selfish as that dolled up Angela ruin what I have with Grace.
I had to go see Grace, even though paparazzi would be monitoring my movements now more than ever, I had to see her.
Marcus and I thought of a way we wouldn’t drag Grace’s name into all that is happening, so we used some good disguise of a baseball cap, black mast and sunglasses. We used Marcus’s oldest car and drove as fast as we could to Grace’s place, but she wouldn’t open the door despite how many times I knocked till I realized that she might not be in, besides the car I got her wasn’t in the driveway. It was enough to know she wasn’t really at home.
I wanted to track her but her phone was turned off so I decided to check Laurel’s school if she would still be there.
Marcus suggested we check at Grace’s friends place. “She should either be with Jody or NK.” he said, already knowing their names by heart. “I’ll check Jody, Alpha, while you should check at NK’s place.”
“Alright, send me the address.” I responded before we parted ways. He was going to wait for the driver to bring another car, while I take his old one to NK’s place.
Before I drove out of the compound, he had send the text of the address to me. We could get any information we needed, at any time.
I checked my phone for the address and was relieved that it was only thirty minutes’ drive according to GPS.
I tried Grace’s mobile number again as I drove with full speed towards her friends place, willing her to pick her call, to hear me out first before getting any ideas in her head.
What if she wasn’t in any of her friend’s place anyway? What if…
No, no, she should be, I hoped desperately.
My head felt giddy with relief as I got to NK’s house according to GPS and found Grace’s car outside. I sighed momentarily, turned off the car’s engine hurried to the front door that seemed like a gate and knocked.
The prim looking dark skinned friend opened the door slightly revealing only her head. “Grace is not here,” she announced curtly even before I had the chance to speak. Her face looking really stern but calm.
“I know she is,” I said with a tone of plea and desperation, “Please let me see her. I just want to talk, please.”
“Alpha Connor Shelby, with all due respect-”
“Don’t.” I cut her short and placed my right leg between the gates so she wouldn’t close it. “I know I don’t deserve your DUE respect at this point but please let me talk to her.”
“Maybe you should let her reach out first, don’t you think?” she folded her hands around her chest in a really defensive manner. “You can’t force her to talk to you when she isn’t ready.”
“I want just want her to hear me out. Isn’t that people who care about each other do? Hearing the other side of the story? I cannot bear to stay still when I know she’s feeling hurt because of me.”
I explained without stopping to catch my breath.
And the gate suddenly opened wider than before. And I saw her standing beside her friend with her eyes all puffy and red.
“Explain then,” she said with an icy tone.
