ALKAROD
“What did the Lycan say?”
Alpha Rasmus whipped his head in the direction of his distressed wife. Her eyes were wet and puffy from uncontrolled tears and her voice hoarse from sobs.
“What do you expect a Lycan to say?” He snapped.
The Alpha’s temper was short. They had no cure yet and his son’s condition was getting worse as the days went by. They spent most of their time in the infirmary set aside for the Alpha and his family.
His wife sniffed again as she placed a hand on her son’s frail arm, hoping he would suddenly jerk back to consciousness. It was long since he said a word. His small eyes were most times closed except times he would blink occasionally when given medication. His skin was pale and his formerly round, smooth face was sunken and riddled with sores. The cabinet beside him was filled with various medication bottles either to give him strength or to dry up the sores on his body.
The Alpha continued pacing. His stomach churned as he was irritated by the medication, the gloomy room, and the sight of his helpless son. He had spent years grooming him and it annoyed the Alpha to see him so weak.
“The Lycans are proud. Even the weakest of them.”
“Send him another message!” She cried!
“Now, now! This isn’t the time to weep.” One of the Alpha’s friends, Anthony said. Whiny women annoyed him. He had tried to sound soft and convincing but the annoyance in his tone was unmistakable. His son, Noah was friends with the Alpha’s son and he had spent a great deal of time with him.
Alpha Rasmus stared at him for a moment. It was a silent warning. No one raised their voice at Thalia except him.
“We are desperate but we can’t seem too desperate in the eyes of Kain Kurt,” Alpha Rasmus replied.
“We shouldn’t have sold the girl so fast.” His wife said, wiping streaming tears. “When we find her, we kill her.” Hatred burned in her heart for Elora. She couldn’t bear the pain her son was going through. The slave girl had to pay, no matter what.
“Don’t put the cart before the horse…” the Alpha murmured. Surely there was something they had to do.
“Is the girl’s mother still here with us?” George, another friend of the Alpha spoke up. He seemed to be the quietest of them all. His son, Gary was also friends with the Alpha’s son.
The Alpha stopped pacing, he turned to his friend with a raised eyebrow. “Yes… What do you suggest.”
George sat up straight in his seat. “Well, the girl sure loves her family so much. If you didn’t know, her mother has a condition and is practically totally helpless without her children…” He paused, letting the words sink in.
“Clever!” Alpha Rasmus exclaimed. “We use her mother as bait!” He frowned, beginning to plot.
“Yes, without too much trouble of our own. She’ll be back here in a jiffy.”
The Alpha was excited. “We could use her clothes.” He turned to his wife. “You will help us get some of her clothes.”
“Of course! The woman never says anything anyway. Always humming and rocking on a spot,” she replied. The Luna found Elora’s mother strange. She was now usually found in the kitchen with Alma but instead of helping out, she would sit in a corner and hum.
“Splendid! I–” Rasmus began to say.
A knock on the door cut him short.
“Who is that bastard?” he bellowed!
“The messenger boy, sir. I have a message from Hanaerum, sir.”
Hanaerum? That was Kain Kurt.
“Come in at once!”
The messenger boy stumbled in with a red envelope in his hands. The Alpha snatched it and examined it. It had Kain Kurt’s seal and his unmistakable handwriting.
“You can leave us now.” He waved to the boy as he hastily tore the envelope.”
“What does it say?” His wife said.
“Oh, hush.”
The Alpha scanned the letter and smiled as he read further. His smile widened until it reached his ear.
“Kain Kurt has summoned me!” He said.
“Splendid!” Thalia muttered, sniffing away tears in hope.
“We have an important meeting with him and if all things go well, the girl will be ours.”
“Of course, things will go well. It’s Kain Kurt we’re dealing with,” Anthony said.
The Alpha went over to his son, stroking his hair. “Son, you will recover.” He then turned to the rest. “Kain Kurt says to disguise. We don’t want that bastard, Rome sniffing in our business.”
“Oh, do remember that we can’t waste any more time,” the Luna said.
“Which is why we leave at once!”
