Chapter 49

Book:The Lycan King's Mate Published:2024-6-4

Cindy’s POV
There, I said it. Will he ever get the hint? He was standing and had me in his arms. I know that I am small, but still, carrying me like this would be a little uncomfortable for him. He is now looking at me while I wait for his reaction. I had been thinking about marking him, but I was hesitant because I thought that he wasn’t actually mine. The feeling of having him with me was so good, and he made my heart flatter every time.
Clover was his real mate. If I had not been in her body, I’m sure that she had already marked him hers the moment they found each other. That’s how they were, but because I am human and broken, I had a hard time finding it in my heart to accept and believe him. I was envious of Mia. Like me, she’s a human and was broken, too. But when Charles claimed her, she accepted him instantly and believed in him. I wanted to be loved like before. When I thought everyone besides my father was sincere to me,
I saw happy-mated couples a lot, actually. Maybe rejecting one’s mate was not a trend among them, and those who were idiots were the only ones who did that, like Vlad. Because he thought Clover was a whore and weak. He didn’t believe in their bond, and now that he had marked someone else, he still wanted to have me, I mean, Clover. He is such an idiot if he thinks that I am going to let this body get near him when he wants me.
“Why are you still thinking about that?” My thoughts were cut off by Alder’s question. “You are my mate. I may have smelled Clover’s scent on this body, but your soul is somewhat connected to me as well. I don’t think the moon goddess made a mistake in letting you live through Clovers.”
“I have read that something like this never happened in the entire history of wolves and Lycans and other species. There are times when I think of Clover. What if she comes back and claims her body? Where would that lead me?” I asked worriedly. He looked at me lovingly, and the next thing I knew, we were already in the library. He put me down on a chair, walked to a shelf, started to look for something, and came back to me after he found it.
“Here,” he said and pointed out something, so I looked at it, “It says that I am going to be mated to a witch, but neither of you and Clover was one. She’s a pure wolf, and you are human,” he added.
“So, what Joshua had said was true?”
“Yes, that’s why I couldn’t get mad at him for insisting that on me. Because it was already written, and none of what was written here was wrong or never happened.”
“But it was wrong in my case. It says that your mate is going to be a witch and, as you said, neither of us were. So, it might not happen as well.” I replied,
“Cindy,” he called my name when he usually called me Clover. That was somewhat refreshing. I missed someone calling me by my real name. Thanks to Mia, who did that whenever we were alone, I got to remember who I really was. “There must be something in you that you yourself don’t know,” he added. I got confused. What did he mean?
“When you were super angry, I noticed that your eyes changed color.” he said, “It was purple, which was unique to witches.”
“So Clover has witch blood?” I asked,
“If she does, do you think I will never know?” he asked instead,
“Oh, come on! Just say it, and don’t tease anymore.” I replied, and he laughed.
“No, Clover was not a witch, nor had witch blood.”
“Then, why have my eyes changed colors?”
“It was you,” he answered, and that confused me even more.
“Why? How? My father is human, and I know that for sure.”
“How about your mother?”
“My mother is—-” I said and couldn’t continue. I can’t think of anything about my mother because I don’t remember her at all.
“You know nothing about your mother?” he asked, and I nodded, then he smiled. “Then she must be the one who has the witch blood that has been passed on to you. She should be powerful enough to even show everyone that you are one of them, even if you are already in a different body.” he continued, “How much can you remember about childhood?” he asked,
“Not much, I mean nothing. All of my memories are from when I was in high school. Before that, nothing.” I answered,
“Then your memory must have been erased. For someone to do that to you means something happened during that time, and they didn’t want to scare you or remember anything that may cause something big to happen in the future,” he replied,
“Now, you’re making me think. I don’t know if I will ever get a good night’s sleep later. I will surely try to think and try to remember everything about my childhood.” I said, but he capped my face with both his hands and made me look into his eyes.
“I was the only one who knew that you had witch blood in you. So you don’t have to stress and force yourself to remember everything in one go. The more you think about it, the more that it will never come to you.”
“But you make me super curious, and you know that I am the type not to stop unless I find out what I want!” I exclaimed,
“Very impatient, my queen.”
“You know that, and yet you are still spewing those things. What do you want me to do then?” I asked, feeling annoyed.
“Nothing. You don’t have to do anything. For now, let’s eat at Charles’s,” he said and had us teleport to the royal floor. Lance and Sheena were already there, and they all looked at us.
“We have been waiting for you. What took you so long?” Mia asked,
“This idiot said something, and now I have to think about it,” I replied,
“I thought you already marked him,” she said, and that made Alder look at her and me. “She said she was going to mark you already,” she added.
“Then what are we doing here?” Alder asked,
“I changed my mind. I had to do it after I figured out my past.” I answered, and his face sank. “Regretted saying those things to me now?” I asked, and he nodded. Charles and Lance laughed at him, which earned them both a glare from him. But they didn’t stop, and all of us laughed at him.
“Are you that happy?” he asked, pissed.
“Yes. At least I have the motivation to think now.”
“What motivation?”
“I really wanted to mark you. So I am going to use that to motivate myself to try and remember something or anything that will help us clarify some things about me and your mate.”
“What does your memory have to do with us?” he asked in disbelief.
“If I ever find out that I am what you said I was, then I will be marking you with all my heart, finding I am really yours, and you are really mine,” I answered,
“Wait, what are you two talking about?” Lance asked. He and the others were confusedly looking at us.
“I will tell you when everything’s clear,” Alder said and motioned us to start eating. I know that he was feeling frustrated when he found out that I was already planning on marking him and was suddenly delayed because of what he had told me.
As for me, I know to myself that I won’t be able to stay still if I never find out that lost part of my childhood. I believed him when he said that there must be some reason why I had to lose it, or someone might have erased it. And I had to be ready for that and think of the worst to come.
