Third Person’s POV
Another week later, they went back to Alaska. If it were only Cindy, she would never have returned there, but Masha had been begging her to come with their mate, and she didn’t know why she couldn’t say no. She didn’t like the idea of someone telling her what and not to do. She grew up to decide for herself even if her dad got mad at her.
“Your Highness, the king, wanted you to eat with him and the others,” Charles said. One thing she noticed was that he had been too comfortable with her.
“What is wrong with you?” she asked,
“Nothing, Your Highness,” he replied.
“I know that you still have a problem with Mia, but don’t expect that I am going to help you,” she said,
“It would be better if you helped me out, but I will try my best to woo her if you don’t want to. I never thought that I was going to find my mate this time. I was giving up and didn’t search anymore, but because of you, I found her.” he replied, but Cindy ignored him. She stood up, left their bedroom, and entered the dining hall.
Mia was seated already, and she smiled as she saw her. Charles was following her, but when he saw his mate, he rushed and sat beside her. “Hi,” he greeted her, which made her feel uncomfortable.
“Relax, Mia. He’s harmless even if he is annoying.” Cindy said, smiling. “All of the boys here were annoying,” she added and, as her friend, agreed with her.
“I am not, Your Highness,” Lance said,
“Why is he calling you Your Highness?” Mia asked curiously.
“Because she’s our queen, and he is our king,” Lance answered, pointing his finger at Alder when he noticed no one wanted to answer her.
“I didn’t know that there was a king and queen in Alaska,” she replied,
“We are low profile; we didn’t brag anything about us.” the beta replied. “How do you feel about the man beside you?” he asked, hoping they would get their desired answer.
“I feel uncomfortable around him,” she replied, her head down.
“Are you scared of him?”
“What?? No!” she exclaimed. “It’s the opposite,” she added, and Charles’s smile widened, looking hopeful about what she would say next. “I like him being near me, but I no longer trust men. I didn’t want to get involved with anyone right now.” she continued, making Charles’s face sink.
“I see; you must have been through a lot to say that,” Lance replied, looking at the gamma. “But let me tell you what I think about Charles. He likes you. No, let me rephrase: he loves you already. I am 100% sure that if you ever give him a chance, you will be the most important person in his life, and only you will matter to him, besides Your Highness. You are his mate, and he will only live and die for you,” he added. He wanted Mia to know their kind. He thought that the longer they hid it from her, the more she would only get confused.
“What do you mean, mate?” she asked,
“A soulmate. Meaning, he is the one intended for you and him for you,” he answered.
“That’s what I thought about my ex-boyfriend; if not for a wealthy friend, I could have died right now,” she told him. Cindy knew about her, so she didn’t join their conversation anymore. But Alder and Charles were all ears, and they found out that, like the queen, Mia had also suffered from a previous relationship.
“Mia, be ready tomorrow; we will tell you about us,” Alder said, which confused her even more, so she looked at Cindy.
“It’s fine; you’re not going to get hurt,” she assured and nodded.
They were done eating and went to their respective rooms to rest, while the Lycans went to their respective duties. Alder was worried about Mia, but because of Cindy, he was sure she would understand and accept everything about them, especially her mate, Charles.
Alder followed Cindy into their room, “Thank you for helping Charles with Mia.” he said,
“I am not. I only tell her what I think,” she replied,
“Clover,” he called to her, and she sighed. She didn’t know if she would accept that she was no longer the Cindy Mills who used to live with humans. She knew that she was inhabiting someone else’s body, and whether she accepted it or not, she was thankful that it gave her a chance to get her revenge on the people who had done her wrong.
“Let’s talk about how we will address you,” Alder started, “It may be hard for you to get used to living as Clover from now on, but you have to. For everyone who knows that face, you are Clover Ellington, who was loved and treasured by her parents. We can’t do anything about your own body; as we both know, it is already gone.” he added,
“I know that,” she replied. “You don’t know how much I was trying to make myself accept it and everything that happened and happening. But it was hard. I want to return to where I came from, but I know that no one will believe I am me. I was already someone else to them.”
“We may not do anything about the past, but we can live the present and the future according to our will. All you have to do is embrace what you are right now,” he said,
“It’s easier for you to say you’re not the one who lost her body and had to live like someone else. I want to do what I usually did when I was still Cindy.”
“You still can, and I am not restricting you to doing what you want.”
“You always wanted me to tell you where and when to go. How can you say that you’re not restricting me? You always come with me wherever I go and always have someone to follow me.”
“It’s because you’re the queen! It’s for your safety, and Charles was in his position for you, to keep you safe,” he replied; he had explained it to her many times since they arrived at the palace. “Yes, you can do everything before all of this happens. But don’t you feel lucky to be alive now? Have you ever thought of the real Clover who had to live with her body so you could live?”
“So, it was my fault now that I am here? Is that what you were trying to say?”
“Of course not! I want you to enjoy your second chance of living. Many people, humans or not, want to have a second chance in life like yours. Why are you taking the words out of my mouth?”
“You don’t have to tell me, I already know that!” she yelled, “But let me tell you this: just because they wanted a second chance in life, it doesn’t mean that they will accept it instantly. They will be confused and hurt as well,” she added and went to the bathroom. She didn’t want to talk to him anymore because they always fought or argued about something.
