Alder’s POV
“What are you doing here?” Dr. Lin Uy, Cindy’s best friend, asked in surprise. Just what Cindy wanted, we went to the meeting. I pulled a chair for my mate to sit before I sat beside her.
“Dr. Uy, this is Mr. Alder Volcik, the hospital’s owner.” Director Clint said he must be wondering why I attended the meeting. He knows me, and, as I already said, this is the first time that I am getting myself involved with my own business.
“Why are they here?” she asked, “You are the arrogant woman who bumped into me last night in the restaurant,” she added, but my mate kept quiet.
“As you already know, you are suspended until further notice.” Director Clint said, “You are the patient’s surgeon, so until everything is clear, you will have to be suspended. I didn’t want any news to come out that the hospital is doing nothing about the issue,” he added.
“Cindy was my best friend, and it was also hard for me.”
“What’s hard for you?” Cindy asked, “Ahh, you mean fu****g with her boyfriend without her knowing?” she added, and Director Clint’s eyes widened, as did Dr. Uy. She didn’t see that coming. But she managed to compose herself and asked arrogantly.
“Who the hell are you to tell me that? Cindy and I grew up together and have been through a lot. I introduced Mike to her, and I am the reason why they were together.”
“Ah, it was really hard for you. The man you love, you had to give him to her to gain her trust.” Cindy said, “Oh, by the way, I am Clover Ellington, Cindy’s savior and best friend. And soon, the owner of everything she had. I mean, everything.” she added without batting an eye.
I can sense her trying to control her anger, and Director Clint feels it, too. Then, he must have realized that she was his queen because he bowed his head in submission. “So you see, everything that you planned against her and her father will only go to waste, and I will see to it that you and Mike will be rotten in jail.” she continued.
“Everyone knew that I was her best friend. I only saw you today. How can you say that you will get everything?”
“You’re not that close to her, don’t you understand? Did you know that she had an aunt? No! Did you know that she had a guy best friend? No! Did you know that her dad made a last will? No! You see, she didn’t tell you everything that is important to her. Do you know why? Because you’re nothing but a maid’s daughter that she wanted to play with and was financially compensated by Uncle Dennis.”
“That’s not true.”
“What is not true? The fact that you will get nothing out of their death? Or the fact that there is someone who was looking after her that ruined your plan with Mike?”
“Clover,” I called to her attention. I didn’t want her to say anymore and ruin everything she planned. I’m glad that she stopped.
“Alright, Dr. Uy, your suspension is effective today until further notice.” Director Clint said and dismissed her. She stood up and glared at my mate, who was glaring back at her. I was amazed at how much control Cindy had. Wolf has a terrible temper, and as I marked her, I’m sure she was starting to transform into a Lycan so she would be more short-tempered.
“Your Highness.” Director Clint said, “You should have told me you were coming here so I could prepare something.”
“No worries, Clint. When did you find out about the news?” I asked curiously. The autopsy request was made about three days ago, and I was impressed at how fast Lincoln worked that out.
“I have a friend in the agency who called me about the request when he learned about the hospital where the surgery happened. I looked into the records, and I didn’t see anything unusual about the procedures.” He replied, “The meeting was just for formality. I believe Dr. Uy had a lot of friends here. But since Her Highness was certain that she did something, I think I also have to restrict her access to the files.” He added.
“Thank you, Clint. We came here because your queen wanted to ensure she would never get any help from anyone, especially from the hospital.”
“Yes, Your Highness.” He replied and bowed to us. We stayed briefly and excused ourselves. Cindy had been very quiet, and I’m sure she was thinking about her next move. Charles was just outside the room, waiting for us.
“We will be going to the company tomorrow,” Cindy said, so I nodded. I had no choice but to agree with her, but I needed to talk to her about what I should call her. She should be called Clover and has to live as Clover. Her body and her identity as Cindy no longer exist. When we return to Alaska, I will make my point so she will not refuse.
“Where is Lin?” She asked, looking at Charles.
“She went straight to her car and drove away,” He replied.
“She must be going to Mike and telling him about what I said earlier. Lincoln had prepared everything, even the lawyers. I didn’t think that I would be able to finish things here in just a short time.” She said, stopped walking, and looked at me. “It’s because you own the hospital. She won’t be able to hide or destroy any evidence that might be pointed at her.” She added.
We are on our way to the elevator. We will go to the rented locker Lincoln had used to hide the evidence he gathered after Cindy called him. She said it was one of the secret saves they used to send and receive essential files.
The following day, we went to Cindy’s company. Everyone was looking at us as soon as we entered the building. She owned the number one manufacturer of instant foods not just in the US but all over the world, from instant coffee, chocolate drinks, flavored juices in a pack, flavored water, instant noodles, and more. I never thought that she was this rich. No wonder her boyfriend and best friend did what they did to her.
She knows where we are going, and she looks different. She must have been like this when she was managing the company. “My love, are you alright?” I asked to ease the tension.
“Yes,” she didn’t even look at me.
“Don’t be too tense, just relax.” I reminded her, and she nodded before she inhaled and then exhaled. Just as the elevator door opened, she took my hand, and I could feel that she was nervous.
“Mike is going to be there.” She informed me. So, her being this tense was because of that bas****? “Before you get any idea, it was because I wanted to pulverize his face.” She added and got out of the elevator.
Lincoln was waiting for us, and he smiled as soon as he saw my mate. “You already know what to do, right?” She asked, and he grinned, then they hugged each other. I wanted to growl, but I didn’t want to startle her friend, so I just kept my jealousy to myself.
Then we entered the room while Charles and the others waited outside. Every eye was on us, especially Cindy. And one particular man had his eyes on her, and yes, it was Mike, the ex-boyfriend.
