Chapter 696: The Unavoidable Choice

Perhaps Freya’s words came too suddenly.
“Dean, what are you saying?” Everyone felt that Freya was misunderstanding them.
“We heard a few words from Neo that you’re leaving, but we really can’t bear to see you go. The time we’ve spent together, not too long, but not too short either. We’ve seen your character and we approve of you…”
“Exactly, Dean, you’re thinking too negatively of us,” Lane interjected.
Freya said, “Is that so? I remember you coming to see me the most.”
Lane fell silent.
She felt a bit embarrassed.
She had indeed been tough on Freya back then.
“Joking aside, let’s all sit down,” Freya said with a smile.
Everyone took their seats.
The group around the table seemed quite lively.
“Are you really leaving?”
That was Lane’s question.
Freya nodded, “Yes.”
“Why? We were just starting to get along so well!”
The others chimed in, “Exactly.”
Freya took a deep breath. How should she answer?
She said, “Once a woman gets married, she must consider her family…”
Before Freya could finish, someone interrupted, “Doesn’t your husband allow you to work?”
All eyes turned to the speaker.
The person asked, “Why are you all looking at me? Did I say something wrong?”
Everyone shook their heads, “No, you asked a good question.”
That was what they wanted to know.
Freya, with a serious tone, said, “Let’s talk about our work, let’s not always bring up my family.”
“Why are you resigning then? We can all see that you enjoy this job,” Neo asked.
Freya coughed, “Why do you all have a prying feeling?”
“We just want to know why you’re leaving when we’re just getting to know each other and accepting each other,” Neo replied.
“Accepting each other? It sounds like dating,” Freya waved her hand, “Let’s all eat.”
“We don’t feel like eating if you don’t explain,” Neo said.
Neo was the least willing to see Freya leave.
Because he had spent the most time with her.
And their relationship was the best.
Freya sighed, “You all…”
“I want to spend more time with my child, it’s as simple as that.”
There was a pause, “You have bodyguards around you, you shouldn’t lack babysitters at home, right?”
Freya countered, “Can a babysitter play the role of a mother?”
Silence followed below.
A female colleague said, “I don’t have the conditions. If I did, I would also want to stay at home with my child. I understand Miss Stone.”
Lane said, “My son and I aren’t close now because I didn’t have time for him when he was young. He was raised by his grandmother, he’s closer to her than to me.”
Women resonate more on the issue of staying at home with children.
Even wealthy people face this issue.
The only difference lies in the fact that poor people work to survive, while wealthy people work for love or hobbies.
These two situations are worlds apart.
The former lacks the choice.
The latter can choose anytime.
Just like Freya now, she can choose not to work, but she doesn’t have to worry about money, about not being able to afford high tuition fees, or living expenses.
They dare not resign because they’re afraid of not making a living.
Lane took two sips of wine and said to Freya, “I support you. You have the conditions to take care of your child and your family at home. You don’t have to work. To be honest, if my husband were as wealthy as yours, I would’ve quit long ago.”
She laughed at herself, “In that case, my son wouldn’t be distant from me.”
But there was one thing she couldn’t understand.
She looked at Freya and asked, “Why is it that on the issue of family, men only need to earn money, while women need to earn money and take care of the household?”
Freya couldn’t answer!
Perhaps women are more emotional.
Men can’t understand how much women care about the flesh and blood they’ve carried for nine months.
“Why did you choose to leave now?” Lane asked.
Freya hadn’t thought about it carefully.
When had she decided to resign?
It should have been after she found out about her miscarriage.
Even though her body couldn’t bear children anymore.
Even if there hadn’t been a miscarriage, she still couldn’t have kids.
But she still felt guilty towards Elijah.
He loved having a daughter.
She couldn’t give that to him.
