Evan continued in a casual tone, “This chicken blood, all fresh, I went through a lot of trouble to get it for you. Didn’t you see, when the police saw you, they were shocked? They thought you wouldn’t make it.”
“You’re the one who won’t make it. If I knew I’d come back to do this kind of dirty work, I wouldn’t have come back!” Xander headed to the bathroom to take a shower.
There was a shower in the ward.
He couldn’t stand the smell on his body.
Evan chuckled and left the room, returning a while later with a medical record in hand.
Xander, while drying his hair, asked, “What are you holding?”
Evan handed it to him, “Take a look, it’s your medical record.”
Xander glanced at him, “Why do I feel like something bad is about to happen?”
“You’re wrong. In the next few days, you’ll be living the good life.” Evan sat on the edge of the bed, one leg propped up on the other.
Xander hesitantly flipped through the medical record.
Broken ribs, kidney bleeding, cartilage injury, twisted ankle…
He asked haltingly, “These… are really not curses on me again?”
How should he see this news without feeling discouraged?
“If you weren’t that hurt, how could they lock you up?” Evan stood up, walked over to him, and patted his shoulder. “Just endure it for a few days. After things are settled, I’ll throw you a grand feast to reward you.”
Xander, “…”
“Also, for the next few days, don’t leave the hospital ward. Let everything else go, I’ll take care of it.”
Xander nodded, “Okay, understood.”
Evan walked out of the ward.
…
Detention center!
The son of the director, after looking at Xander’s medical records, immediately shouted, “He framed me! I didn’t hit him at all, he deliberately set me up!”
“The medical records were issued by the hospital. If you say he framed you, why would he frame you?” the questioning officer asked.
The director’s son was speechless.
He was silent.
His eyes darted around.
He understood what was going on.
Perhaps he pushed Freya too far and got retaliated against!
“Can I contact my family?” he asked.
“You can,” the officer agreed.
He passed the message outside for his family to reconcile with Freya.
…
Freya, with Kai, Linda, Elowen, and Morton, was out shopping.
They bought a lot of things, mostly for the two children.
Freya also bought clothes and skincare products for Linda and Elowen. She knew how hard they worked taking care of the kids.
Since they had time today, she brought them all out, the driver loaded their purchases into the car, and they had a meal at a Chinese restaurant.
The dishes here were excellent.
She held Morton and let Elowen eat first.
“You rarely have time.” Elowen served Kai and remarked.
Freya swayed with Morton in her arms, “So, treasure the time you have with me.”
Elowen gave her a sideways look, “I’ve noticed, lately, something’s off with you.”
Freya’s heart skipped a beat. “What’s off about me?” Elowen saw through her?
“You used to be busy at work and had less to say when you got back. Now you seem idle and talk more. Did something happen?” Elowen asked.
Freya, “…”
So, the more she tried to hide, the more flaws she showed?
“Mom, can’t you think the best of me?” Freya grumbled. “Can’t you just hope for the best for me?”
“Fine.” Elowen waved her hand. “Come, eat, I’ll hold Morton.”
Freya had no appetite and gave Morton to Elowen, sitting down to eat some food.
After the meal, they took Kai to the amusement park and had dinner outside.
She said she’d let Linda rest for a day, no need to cook.
She didn’t know if Elijah would come back at night, so she called him to let him know she and Linda were out.
The call was quickly answered.
But instead of Elijah’s voice, a scream came through!
Nerves on edge, she urgently called out, “Elijah?”
