In the bedroom, Elena Bush suppressed her emotions and barely looked different, but even so, she couldn’t avoid Dr Thomas’ eyes.
The little woman’s face was so pale that no amount of concealment could hide it.
He lifted his hand and patted her shoulder, pulling her thoughts back, “Are you really all right?”
“Huh?” Elena Bush looked back at him blankly, dumbfounded, “Are you calling me?”
Dr Thomas sighed helplessly, “Do you think there’s anyone else here but you or me?”
“Sorry, I got a bit carried away.” She wiped her face, obviously a little frustrated.
Dr Thomas patted her on the back, “It’s okay, I know you’re probably just intimidated by Edward Ford.”
Elena Bush’s thin lashes fluttered slightly and she couldn’t help but say, “I owe you for calling the police today, thank you, please ……”
Dr Thomas blushed and looked at her hesitantly, “You think I called the police?”
“Who else would it have been but you?” Elena Bush was clearly surprised, and could think of no one else but him.
Dr Thomas meekly shook his head, “Not me, except that …… I guess there was only one person.”
“Who?” Elena Bush was full of uncertainty, “I don’t think anyone would know about my condition, much less ……”
Before the words were out of her mouth, she had stopped talking and looked at Dr Thomas with some consternation, speaking hesitantly, “You mean …… Logan Brown?”
“Uh huh.”
Dr Thomas shrugged, a slightly raised eyebrow standing out as the best answer.
Elena Bush unconsciously clasped her hands together, as she did so often, “So, is he okay then?”
“Ouch, my God ……” Dr Thomas was simply speechless, “What are you doing worrying about him at this time of day if you’re not concerned about yourself, he’s better than you. ”
Elena Bush pursed her lips and didn’t say anything.
Dr Thomas glanced around at her, unable to do anything else but say, “Whatever happens, you need to listen to me now, I’ve managed to get you to keep the baby, you can’t let my hopes go down the drain.”
Elena Bush lowered her eyes slowly, her soft gaze falling, “I know.”
She also knew better than anyone that she would have to protect the baby.
Dr Thomas took a deep breath, “There’s only so much I can do for you, plus I don’t have much time left at the Fords and if something like this happens again, there’s nothing I can do to help you you.”
“I understand all that.” She interrupted just in time, forcing up a smile, “I understand even if you don’t say so, plus, I can’t rely on anyone.”
Here in the Fords, she could only slowly learn how to survive and learn …… how she could live in the Fords in peace.
Dr Thomas looked at her with a serious look on his face, “In that case, you had the opportunity to leave, several times, so why not?”
“Leave? Leave how?”
Elena Bush just found what he said a little ridiculous, “I came to G City in the hope that I could keep him out of trouble and that he could look after KL and the Brown Group full time ……”
So, if she had gone when she did, what difference would it have made from when she came?
There was no point in her doing anything, plus …… most importantly, she wanted to find out what was going on between Edward Ford and Joanna Lake.
She had a vague feeling that the housekeeper knew something, and because he knew something, he was taking extra care of her and protecting her all the time.
Otherwise, she did not believe that the butler would be so kind to her, someone she had never met before, and his usual manner of speaking and acting as if his life depended on it today reinforced her own beliefs.
Dr Thomas didn’t understand what was going on between them and shook his head, “Never mind, I’m an outsider and I can’t say anything, except that you know in your heart what to do.”
Elena Bush nodded and gave a light smile, “Don’t worry, it’s my life, even if something happens to me, I won’t let anything happen to him.”
“Don’t!” Dr Thomas interrupted this thought just in time, “If something happens to you, the baby will be a big problem!”
“I’m just kidding.” She joked with a soft smile, innocence in her eyes.
Dr Thomas scrutinised her for a moment, but was slightly relieved to see that her reaction seemed genuine.
Before leaving, he patted her shoulder heavily, “Don’t worry, the baby is in good condition despite the shock just now, and I’m sure that the baby knows that this is not the time to worry mummy.”
At those words, the little woman’s starry eyes reflected a light, yet unmistakable gentleness, “He really understands the situation, at least, better than I do.”
Dr Thomas smiled and gave a few more words of advice before he left.
Elena Bush, who had been resting on the sofa, tensed up again and looked warily in the direction of the door, only to see auntie Julie smiling at her.
The thought of her betraying her vows and nearly killing her own child did not make Elena Bush’s face look any better.
She gave her a cold sweeping look, “What are you doing here? You’ve broken our agreement, and I don’t need you anymore!”
As if she hadn’t heard her words, auntie Julie walked straight in with her plate and placed it carefully on the table, “Miss Elena, I know you’re complaining about me, but I really didn’t mean to, and now Mr Ford has told me not to leave you within ten steps, and I’m… …”
auntie Julie looked embarrassed and crestfallen, and looked at her with an unwarranted dash of guilt.
Elena Bush stiffened and pulled at the corners of her mouth, “How dare you appear before me when one word from you could have made Edward Ford almost kill my child?”
“I ……” auntie Julie immediately panicked, shaking her head with a looming tremor, “Miss Elena, I, I really didn’t know it would be this bad, and I didn’t know Mr Ford would treat you like this, I originally just thought he was worried about you, I really didn’t expect ……”
“That’s enough!”
Elena Bush turned around, “I’ve heard enough of your sophistry, in the end, you’re still going to betray me, if that’s the case, why should I keep a time bomb around myself?”
Or even a bomb that could put her to death again at any moment!
At her icy words, auntie Julie’s heart hung in the air as she opened her mouth, desperate to explain something more.
Elena Bush swept her off her feet and spoke in front of her, saying in one cold word, “Get out! I don’t want to see you!”
