“Elijah, did I do something to upset you?” Freya asked, chasing after him.
Why was he getting angry for no reason?
She couldn’t understand.
Elijah got back on the bed, wrapped himself in the blanket. Freya finished washing up and came out to see the man lying back in bed again. She couldn’t help but twitch slightly.
Had this man gone crazy?
“You’re not going to eat?” she asked.
Elijah arrogantly pulled the blanket over his head, ignoring her. Watching his childish behavior, Freya couldn’t help but find it amusing.
“I have a meeting with someone today, so I’ll go downstairs first. I’ll leave after I finish eating,” Freya said.
Elijah sat up abruptly, staring at her with piercing eyes. “Who are you meeting?”
Freya replied, “I have an appointment with a plastic surgeon for scar treatment.”
Elijah visibly relaxed. “Go ahead.”
After saying that, he lay back down. He hadn’t slept all night so he needed a little rest. Freya walked to the side of the bed and covered him with the blanket. “Get some sleep.”
After saying that, she turned and went downstairs. Suddenly, Elijah couldn’t fall asleep again. After getting ready, he went downstairs.
Freya saw him and asked curiously, “Why don’t you catch up on sleep?”
Elowen set the breakfast on the table and also noticed the dark circles under Elijah’s eyes. “Didn’t sleep well?”
Elijah glanced at Freya and said, “There’s a difficult case.”
Elowen said with concern, “Work is important, but so is your health. Come back earlier tonight, I’ll make you something delicious to help you recover.”
“Thank you, Mom,” Elijah replied and sat down.
Every time Elowen heard that title, a smile would deepen at the corners of her lips.
After the meal, the two of them left together.
“The driver could take me,” Freya said.
Elijah looked at her meaningfully and said, “I’ll take you.”
Freya didn’t refuse either.
Elijah had been acting abnormal since last night until today. She didn’t dare provoke him. She sat quietly in the car, not saying a word. Soon, the car stopped at the plastic surgery hospital.
Freya got out of the car. “I’m going in.”
Elijah thought about what he had seen and felt a heavy burden in his chest. Without saying a word, he just drove away, leaving behind a strong smell of exhaust. Freya stood there, stunned.
She furrowed her brows. “Elijah, are you insane?”
Why was he so unpredictable?
…
Elijah arrived at the company, and Evan reported to him about the work. After discussing company matters, Evan asked, “What should we do about Thorne?”
They couldn’t send him back to the mental hospital. Everyone there knew about him.
“He has mental issues?” Elijah asked in a playful tone.
Evan replied, “Jack said so. I also think he’s a little off. I specifically asked the director of the mental hospital, and he said there’s a possibility. Being with abnormal people for a long time can make you go crazy too.”
Elijah didn’t think that Thorne would develop a mental illness so quickly.
“Let’s go.”
After Evan brought Thorne back from the airport, they hadn’t found a suitable place to keep him yet. For now, they had him locked in a storage room in the underground parking lot of the company. They took the elevator down to the underground parking lot and opened the door to the storage room. Inside, there were some old desks, chairs, and outdated office equipment. The walls had no windows. The only source of light was a small light bulb hanging from the ceiling, emitting a faint white glow. Thorne was very thin, with sunken cheeks. His hair had been trimmed after being rescued, but it had been long before. He had a long beard. When he was first rescued, he looked like a beggar with long hair on the street. Now he looked somewhat presentable.
But he acted like a madman, sitting on the floor, pulling on a rope in his hands, sometimes biting it, and sometimes letting out a silly laugh.
Elijah asked Evan to bring a chair, and he sat elegantly in front of Thorne, crossing his legs.
“Thorne, do you think if you act crazy, I’ll let you go? No, even if you are insane, I won’t give you freedom.”
Thorne laughed foolishly and continued to bite the rope in his hands. In that moment when he lowered his head, a flash of light quickly passed through his eyes.
