Elena Bush stood in the doorway for a moment before taking a deep breath and following the butler inside.
There was a man sitting quietly on the sofa, a little grey at the temples but still upright.
“Mr Ford, Miss Bush has arrived.” The butler called out in a low voice.
Only then did Edward Ford turn around without hurrying, his voice hoarse, “Elena, here you are?”
Elena Bush barely managed a smile and nodded, “Mr. Ford.”
“Come and sit down.” He patted the seat beside him and a smirk followed his brow.
Elena Bush stepped forward, turning unconsciously on her feet as she walked up to him and took a seat opposite him, her gaze level and calm, “Go ahead, Mr. Ford, what do you need from me before you return the contract to the Brown Group?”
“What do I want to do?” Edward Ford smiled, the sharp gleam in his eyes was impossible to ignore, “What I want to do, that depends on what you can do.”
Elena Bush frowned, “What do you mean by that?”
The smirk under Edward Ford’s eyes deepened involuntarily, his stinging gaze falling on the small of her abdomen.
Elena Bush subconsciously shielded her belly and stared at him warily, “What are you trying to do?”
“Abort your child!”
Edward Ford’s voice plummeted, saying the words as if he were discussing what a beautiful day it was.
Almost subconsciously she immediately grabbed her bag strap and got up to leave, “No way!”
She would accept anything but the baby as the bottom line!
“Elena!” Edward Ford shouted anxiously as she was about to leave, “I was just joking, don’t worry …… you come back, I have something to say to you. ”
The latter, half-heartedly, stopped in her tracks, but the look of alarm in her eyes never dissipated.
“Come back, I won’t do anything to you, Just now is just all talk, don’t take it too seriously.” He said soothingly.
Elena Bush stood her ground and sneered, “Mr Ford is so vicious that he can say such a cruel thing as “aborting the baby”.”
Furthermore, she was nearly ten months pregnant and an abortion at this time would have cost her life, how dare he say that!
Edward Ford wiped the sweat from his forehead and laughed, “A joke, of course, but if it were something else, it might not be.”
Elena Bush gritted her teeth and sat back down, just always protecting her abdomen.
Looking at her all wary, Edward Ford couldn’t help but take a deep breath with an endless sadness, “Elena, you don’t have to see me as evil, I’m your father anyway and won’t hold it against you.”
“But you used the Brown Group to force me, you should know that better than anyone in your heart!” Her face was unchanged, a cold seam on her face.
Edward Ford opened his mouth but couldn’t retort, so he shook his head, “Why don’t you understand me, why can’t you understand me, I just want what’s best for our family.”
“That’s just you!”
“Good ……”
Edward Ford nodded, knowing that there was no point in talking more, “I know you’re prejudiced against me and I know you’re upset with me, and I could care less about all that, but the reason I’m doing all that I’m doing is for nothing more than us.”
“Mr Ford, just say what you want me to do, there’s no need to keep beating around the bush.” Elena Bush reminded him kindly.
These were not words that she wanted to hear.
Edward Ford looked bemused, “Why must you insist on this?”
“Mr Ford, we’re both understanding people, just say it straight, no need to delay each other.” She guffawed, a harmless smile on her face.
Edward Ford slapped his thigh, showing a look of chagrin.
They were silent for half a second before Edward Ford finally spoke slowly, “Elena, in a few days …… it will be Joanna’s memorial day, and I just want to take you back and see her.”
Joanna Lake’s memorial day?
Elena Bush frowned, she seemed to remember Mason Bush mentioning it at first, she just forgot everything after that, her memory didn’t really stick.
Edward Ford looked up at her, “It’s at the end of this month, so I just hope you can come to G with me and we can go see your mum together, okay?”
“If that’s the case, why are you going to all this trouble to do all that?” He could have said straight out that if it was about Joanna Lake, she certainly wouldn’t have refused.
The smile on Edward Ford’s face grew more and more helpless as he listened to her words, “You asked me to talk to you? Have you ever given me a chance to talk to you? How am I supposed to say anything when you never want to hear half a word from me or let me talk to you more than once?”
Elena Bush was stunned and recalled carefully that it really did seem to be as he had said.
Edward Ford had a sincere look on his face, “Don’t worry, as long as you come back to G with me and we go to see your mother together, after that, I won’t make things difficult for the Brown Group, and I won’t sign any cooperation from the Brown Group!”
“You did all that …… just for Joanna Lake’s memorial day?”
She had a look of disbelief on her face, there was always a vague feeling in the back of her mind that something was wrong, but when the words came to her mouth, she couldn’t say anything.
Edward Ford nodded, “Yes, just for Joanna Lake, you’re not me, you wouldn’t understand how much Joanna means to me, that’s the only woman I’ve ever loved in my life!”
He subconsciously tightened his grip on her hand as he spoke with emotion, the light shining in his eyes, “Elena, I know you love Logan Brown, so you should know this feeling of mine!”
“I know.” She nodded subconsciously, only to feel a little incredulous.
Edward Ford’s face lit up with joy, “So, you’re saying yes to me!?”
Elena Bush hesitated, “If I say yes, are you sure you won’t give the Brown Group and KL a hard time anymore? Nor will you give Logan Brown a hard time.”
“Yes!” Edward Ford replied without hesitation, “I always keep my promises and I will do what I say I will do, don’t worry.”
“Really?” She murmured, disbelief in her eyes.
Edward Ford’s grip on her hand tightened a little, “I swear, If I break my vow, I will be punished by heaven!”
Elena Bush drew her hand back quickly and sank into a deep thought, and Edward Ford’s expectant gaze could not help but follow then.
For a long time ……
When she looked up again, a pair of soulful starry eyes blinked, and then Elena Bush heard her voice exactly.
She said, “Good.”
