Freya immediately tensed up. His appearance was somewhat sudden.
Freya made an effort to adjust her expression, smiling, “Why are you here?”
Elijah raised his gaze, his face expressionless, very calm. “Where did you go?”
“I-something came up,” Freya evaded. She deliberately avoided Elijah’s gaze, walked towards the table, poured a glass of water, and used the act of drinking water to disguise her evasion. “You still haven’t said, why did you come over?”
Elijah’s voice turned slightly cold, “My son isn’t feeling well. Shouldn’t I come and check on him?”
Freya felt guilty, lowering her eyes. Elijah stared at her for a few seconds, and she showed no intention of confessing. He was angry. This was their child. Now that Kai had been harmed, she intentionally hid it from him. Was it a lack of trust, or something else?
“I’m taking Kai away,” Elijah said.
Freya raised her gaze abruptly, “Why?”
“Just because he’s my son.”
“He’s your son, but I gave birth to him!” Freya retorted urgently.
Elijah looked at her, silent for a moment, then slowly spoke, “Without me, could you have given birth to him?”
Freya, “…”
Why did these words sound so rogue?
She knew Elijah’s temper; trying to confront him directly would not be beneficial. She had to back down for now. “Kai is unwell now; you can’t take him away from the hospital.”
“Why is he unwell?” Elijah asked.
If Freya confessed now, he might overlook it. He found out from the driver that Freya had come to the hospital, so he immediately investigated and learned that she left the company in a hurry because Kai wasn’t feeling well. He had already asked the doctor and roughly understood Kai’s condition. Freya, however, appeared hesitant to confess.
“I’ll handle this matter. Trust me,” Freya looked at him.
Elijah was indifferent, “Trust you?”
Freya said, “This is a family matter…”
“But it involves my son. For the sake of my son’s health, I must take him away, and I’ll get the best doctors to take care of him.” After saying this, he had already picked up Kai. His movements were gentle, cautious, not like the initial awkwardness; it seemed he had practiced many times.
Freya held onto him, “Don’t act recklessly…”
“Freya, I’m not being impulsive.” At this moment, his tone was calm. He knew very well what he needed to do. First, protect his child; second, find out who harmed his child and make them pay, no matter who it was.
Freya said, “It’s Zane, he didn’t mean to…”
Freya knew Elijah was angry now, so she had to be honest. Just recently, they confirmed their relationship, and trust between them was still lacking. To avoid unnecessary misunderstandings, she decided to explain. Moreover, she hoped to convince Elijah and take charge of this matter!
“I know,” Freya hadn’t finished her sentence, but Elijah interrupted her.
Freya still wanted to say something, but Elijah spoke first, “You’re the child’s mother. If you’re worried about him, you can come with me.”
Freya hesitated briefly, “Give him to me.”
She agreed.
But Elijah didn’t hand the child to her. “I’ll hold him.”
Privately, he had learned quite a few techniques on how to hold a child. Although not very familiar now, it wasn’t awkward. Freya bit her lip, explaining for Zane, “Zane didn’t mean it, he was coerced…”
“Don’t talk, it might disturb his sleep,” Elijah obviously didn’t want to listen.
Freya had to keep quiet.
With the bodyguards following along, Elijah didn’t go back to his villa but took Kai to the place where he kept Freya imprisoned last time. Fewer people knew about this place, making it safer. Adding 24-hour surveillance would provide more security. As soon as he put Kai down, Orion Russo arrived. Elijah had sent him.
Although Orion no longer worked as a doctor, he still had connections. He would find the best and most reliable doctor for Kai. As a family, money was not an issue. Orion did have connections. Even though he reluctantly left his preferred position, he had to obey his mother’s arrangement to work for the company for Luna Ann’s sake. Orion went through everyone he knew in his mind and found a suitable doctor.
“Leave this matter to me,” Orion said.
Elijah said, “ASAP.”
“Okay.” Orion glanced at Freya and asked, “Why suddenly find a doctor for the child? Can’t you, as a doctor, take care of your own child? Isn’t a family doctor more reliable?”
Freya knew that Elijah was acting impulsively right now. She explained, “You and Luna, how are you now?”
Orion was somewhat helpless, “I took control of my family, and my mother promised to let me marry her. If …”
He didn’t finish his words, but the meaning was self-evident.
Freya sighed. It seemed that things between him and Luna Ann were not going smoothly. Was there something that everyone had no choice but to face?!
The next day, the three-day deadline had arrived. Jack came to the company. These few days, he had been restless, watching the stock of the company fall day by day, causing his wealth to shrink. For the past few days, he personally convened a board meeting. He asked Elijah to explain to all the directors about the incident. If his explanation couldn’t satisfy them, he would be dismissed from the position of CEO.
Colton Silverton, who hadn’t appeared at the company for a long time, also came with the old man. Now it was obvious that Elijah had become strong, and he wouldn’t compromise with the old man at all. Coupled with the fact that the old man abandoned his children and Freya, the two of them were at odds. Now, Jack had no choice but to stand on the side of his second son.
“Elijah, everything you have now was given by me. I want to take it back, and it’s an easy thing to do.” Jack was direct, without even making the least bit of surface effort.
Elijah’s face showed no expression. No one could see his current mood.
Colton Silverton, who could now return to the company, was in a good mood. With the support of the old master, and his identity was originally justified.
“Elijah, you didn’t handle everything properly this time, caused the company to lose so much, and you have to give an explanation to all the directors of the board.” Colton Silverton leaned against the back of his chair, looking like he held the winning ticket.
Elijah did not speak. After running the company for many years, even if he didn’t say a word, there were still people who supported him.
“This time, the stock of the company fell because of the things that Thorne Silverton did. What does it have to do with Mr Elijah Silverton? If this matter is forcibly pinned on him, it’s too much, right? It’s really unreasonable!”
