A month later
” You look less grumpy today Your Highness, finally happy your mate is with you?” Kingston teased the vampire king who was grinning from ear to ear inside the council room. He and Diana got married a week after her freedom. The day was the happiest day of his life, he couldn’t hold back his tears as she walked down the aisle. Even Maurice teased him for a while because he was too emotional on his wedding day. The wedding took place at his main palace with the Alpha king and Luna queen present. Cassie, Dyrr’s human counterpart had been there also to see Decanal briefly. Cassie hardly talked and Diana was a little bit socially awkward herself so they didn’t even say hi to each other.
He and his Queen went back to his mansion and they started living their happily ever after. It has been nothing but a blissful journey so far, he even missed her so much even though he had only left the mansion for just half an hour to attend the council meeting.
It was now time for Leonard’s trial with the council. They were both seated opposite each other, around the long table that took almost all the space in the room as they waited for the remaining members to decide their fate. Darryl had always thought that the table was a waste of materials because the council only consisted of six members. The vampire king, the Alpha king, The leader of witches, the king of the underworld, and the chief of all minority shifters.
” What? Are you jealous of my glowing face?” Darryl replied with his signature cocky smirk. He even batted his lashes at the Alpha King. Yes, he was no than happy, seeing Diana’s face every morning was like a medicine to him, more like drugs even. He doesn’t think he could live without her for that long again, he would surely lose his mind if anything managed to separate them again. He might go on a killing spree.
” Jealous? As if, I am mated also in case you forgot” The Alpha king boasted but there was an edge in his tone as if he wasn’t sure of what he was saying. It was the first time Darryl ever saw the Alpha king’s perfect wall crack for a while in front of him. Kingston always had a straight expression on his face so it was hard to figure out what exactly he was thinking but he looked like something was bothering him.
” Yes, the Queen Luna is a beautiful woman. Maybe we should all have dinner together sometimes?” Darryl proposed and the Alpha king nodded agreeing with him. ” Maybe Cassie can even come along,” The king said, his eyes lighting up at the said name. Darryl couldn’t mask his confused expression. He only suggested the dinner so they could have a double date with their Queens but the Alpha had gone ahead to mention His Beta’s sister. He noticed the look the king shared with the woman at his wedding and he knew something fishy was going on between both of them but it wasn’t his place to tell so he just ignored it. Kingston probably wants the girl to get along with Decanal since they are both halves of a whole.
Shortly after the other members stepped into the room one after the other. The leader of the witches came in first, he was a powerful alluring wizard with the most beautiful eyes, but underneath his beauty was a strict and wicked mind. He looked the youngest among them all, even though the Alpha king was the youngest. He looked like he was twenty-four but he was over a century years old. His name was Kolta, a distant cousin of Kiona.
Next came the old king of the minority shifters. He was a were panther with eyes full of wisdom but he was younger than Darryl. The king of the underworld was the oldest, fifty years older than Darryl but they both looked around the same age since they are both immortals. The king of the underworld also known as the king of demons was the only demon that could leave the underworld freely. He signed a pact with the rest of the council to keep his subjects solely in their domain since they were too destructive to live with other creatures on Earth.
The meeting started after a cold business-like exchange of pleasantries. Only the vampire king and the king were friends with each other, others only tolerated the presence of each other for the sake of peace. Two prison guards, one lion shifter, and a werewolf dragged Leonard into the hall, he was bound in silver chains and he looked like he was unconscious.
” I don’t see the reason why this issue is any of our business since the issue is just between both of your races,” Kolta said in a bored tone resting on his chair comfortably.
” Well he summoned demons and also worked with a witch, it is a crime against all races” They were Panthers, Thomas said with a glare at the leader of the witches.
” Okay, okay so what do we do?” Kolta said sitting down properly, he behaves like a kid even though he was many decades older than the Alpha king.
Darryl stood up and briefed the entire council about the magnitude of Leonard’s crimes, trying not to end his life every time he stared at the ex Alpha, Leonard had almost regenerated all of his nerves but he had lost his soul totally to the demon part of him.
Lucien, The king of the underworld looked furious more than anyone else in the room. He was angry that his subjects were used without his permission by a mere Alpha of a small pack. By the time Darryl was done with his narrations, the king of the underworld already had the perfect punishment for Leonard.
” Since he is a demon, why don’t I punish him the way I punish disobedient demons like him?” Lucien said with a smile drowning out his angry reactions.
” No, I would like to kill him with my bare hands. He almost killed my queen” Darryl snarled at Lucien while the Alpha just sat there watching where everything would lead to.
” When I’m done with him in a few months, you can take his life by yourself. The abyss river can be tricky but I promise to keep him alive until then.” Lucien said, the idea of his punishment making his dark eyes gleam in excitement. The abyss was the highest form of punishment for demons, it was more excruciating than all levels of hell. Only the king of the underworld can go and leave as he wants without losing his soul. The river of abyss is capable of driving the strongest demons crazy by using their darkest nightmares against them, that’s why it remained the highest level of punishment.
” I don’t trust you” Darryl glared at the grinning Lucien. ” I keep my promises, vampire king” The demon king only smiled.
” Okay, it’s decided. As for my cousin, you can do to her whatever you like. I told you that already when I handed her location to you” Kolta said dismissing the meeting. He was bored out of his mind already.
The demon king snapped his fingers and he and Leonard disappeared from the room straight to the underworld. Kolta mumbled under his breath before walking out of the room. The Alpha King stood up with his normal straight expression.
” Good riddance to bad rubbish” Darryl muttered standing up also, the Alpha king nodded agreeing with him.
The Alpha king couldn’t stand up properly before a hot pain flashed through his body. He gasped out trying not to howl out in pain.
” Are you okay?” Darryl asked, worry evident on his face.
” My mate bond is broken” The Alpha king rasped out as he held his chest.
