Upon hearing this, Queena couldn’t help but feel a little upset and her face showed a hint of disappointment. She had been trying to get Patrick to commit to their relationship, but he always used work as an excuse and rejected her many times. As time went on, she couldn’t help feeling insecure.
Queena pouted and looked up at Patrick, wanting to argue with him, but his words were reasonable and she couldn’t find a suitable reason to question him. “And tomorrow we’re getting engaged…” This thought popped into Queena’s mind and all her worries disappeared. After all, she would soon be Mrs. Pansy officially; what was there to be sad about?
With that in mind, Queena nodded obediently before leaving the room with some reluctance after giving Patrick one last look filled with longing. “I’ll go back to my room now; you should rest early too,” she said slowly.
“Okay,” Patrick replied while nodding his head before letting out a sigh of relief once the door closed behind Queena.
That was a close call.
Early the next morning, Queena emerged from her room. She appeared to be in a good mood, humming a tune as she prepared breakfast.
Behind her, there were footsteps. Queena paused, her smile widening. As the footsteps became clearer and approached, she turned around to see Patrick, dressed in a suit, evidently getting ready to go to work.
Queena froze for a moment before looking at Patrick in confusion as he explained, “There’s still an important meeting at the company today that I have to attend first thing this morning.”
Queena placed the breakfast on the table with worry written all over her face as she asked, “Why do you have work today?…”
Her disappointment was evident along with some resentment towards him for not prioritizing their engagement ceremony like they had planned earlier on together.
Patrick walked over helplessly and gently embraced Queena, patting her back and softly comforting her, “It’s just a small meeting that won’t take too long. Besides, the engagement ceremony is in the evening. I’ll definitely arrive at the banquet hall on time so you won’t be alone. Be good.”
Queena’s expression relaxed slightly as she wrapped her arm around Patrick’s shoulder and smiled, nodding lightly. “Mm, I’ll wait for you.”
As long as she could get engaged and married to Patrick, she wasn’t afraid of waiting a little longer or shorter.
After Patrick finished breakfast and left for work, Queena visibly breathed a sigh of relief. She was feeling particularly good now that she knew she would be holding an engagement ceremony with Patrick later that night; it made her feel lighter than air.
Exaggeratingly speaking, even walking felt like flying.
She lazily sat on the couch looking around before deciding to call up Amy, one of her best friends from when she used to sing at bars.
“Amy~ where are you? Are you free?”
“Oh hey there busy lady! I heard in the news today that you’re getting engaged to some CEO from Pansy Group? Why are you calling me?” A woman with brownish blonde hair tilted her head slightly while holding up a big bottle of cheap-looking perfume next to her ear as if spraying herself while talking lazily yet teasingly on the phone.
Hearing Amy speak like this made Queena smile involuntarily. “Stop it~ what are you talking about? The engagement ceremony is tonight; he had work so he went early this morning instead. By the way, later on, let’s call those friends from the bar, and let’s go get makeovers together. After all, I can’t look too shabby tonight.”
“Ooh la la~ being married into high society really changes people huh? Okay then Marie was just talking about how much we missed having your company here at our bar lately since it’s not quite time yet for your singing gig, but sure thing! Send us your address later so we can come find ya together?”
“Mm… I’ll send my address over now; come find me when y’all get here so we can go together.”
After a brief conversation, Queena hung up the phone and sent her apartment address to Amy.
At the upscale styling salon.
Several heavily made-up women walked in, chatting and laughing, with Queena among them.
Queena placed her membership card on the counter and, as usual, requested her regular stylist. She smiled and said, “Be generous, but not too cliché. Today… I have an engagement ceremony.”
The stylist nodded with a knowing smile. Everyone knew that the CEO of Pansy Group was getting engaged, so how could he not take it seriously in front of such a big benefactor?
“Understood, Miss Dillon. Just relax and wait to become the most beautiful bride.”
This sentence undoubtedly touched Queena’s heartstrings even more, making her smile even brighter.
The women who entered the store with her were all women she had met while singing at bars before. They all had good relationships with each other but at this moment they were looking around at the store environment.
A round-faced girl sat down next to Queena and looked at herself in the mirror with envy.
“Oh my god! Candy caught herself a rich man! She has changed completely into someone elegant now! Going in and out of high-end places we couldn’t even dream of before… how much money does that cost?”
“That’s right,” said the short-haired woman behind Queena as she put her hand on the backrest of her chair. Her black diamond nails were very eye-catching as she spoke teasingly, “But before this happened she was already one of our most popular singers at the bar because of her voice alone, not to mention being Mr. Pansy’s childhood sweetheart. Now that they are together, it’s no surprise.”
As she spoke, she lightly patted Queena’s shoulder.
“Hey, Candy, you’re the most successful one among us sisters now. You’ve reached new heights and become a phoenix perched on a high branch. Don’t forget about us when you’re up there.”
“Yeah, that’s right! Your way of speaking and manners have completely transformed. After becoming Mrs. Pansy, you’ve been exposed to so much more. If you happen to come across some wealthy young man, you better think about introducing him to us, so we can get to know him too. After all, we’ve been friends for a long time, right?”
“Go go go!” Amy listened for half a day then laughed while shooing away those chatty women beside Queena,”What are y’all talking about? Being able to be together with Mr. Pansy is Candy’s own ability; today is her engagement ceremony so can y’all be more serious? There are people watching here in this store!”
