Ranita froze in place.
After a long while, she regained her composure and murmured with a hint of annoyance, “What’s the point of me getting angry when you won’t change.”
“Have I not told you before how much I dislike Shannon?”
The breathing behind her was steady. Brendon was already asleep.
As time passed slowly, Ranita gradually calmed down from her anxiety, exhaustion hit her like a wave, and she fell into a drowsy sleep.
It didn’t feel like she had been asleep for long when Ranita woke up.
Brendon was sleeping soundly, she lifted his heavy arm and went to check on Ayaan. Ayaan had kicked off his blanket because it was too hot, sleeping in a particularly carefree manner.
Ayaan had Brendon’s looks but a very different personality.
Brendon slept in a proper manner and didn’t toss around. Ayaan, on the other hand, was all over the place.
Ranita smiled as she tucked her son in properly and then went to freshen up while making herself a cup of coffee to wake up. The nanny arrived early to prepare breakfast for her, and Ranita was thinking about how to face Brendon later when the phone rang.
It was unexpectedly a nurse from the hospital calling.
Mrs. Cole had caused a scene in the hospital room Olivia had stayed in before, crying and refusing to leave while lying on the ground.
Ranita was speechless.
“We’ve already transferred Olivia to another hospital. If someone is causing trouble, you should contact the police, not me.” Ranita had just finished speaking when she heard the nurse hesitantly say, “I didn’t want to either, but our security had to force her to leave, and she’s lying on the ground claiming to be injured and demanding compensation for medical expenses.”
“We only contacted you out of concern for potential issues.”
“Don’t you know each other?”
Ranita was getting extremely annoyed, “Miss, it’s not that I lack empathy, Olivia has already been transferred, and we have no reason to get involved in your hospital’s affairs. Besides, we have a hostile relationship with Mrs. Cole, so her troubles are not our concern.”
Ranita hung up the phone, had breakfast, and took some documents to the studio. They had agreed on nine o’clock, but Shannon arrived with Cindy half an hour late.
“Ranita, sorry for being late. I haven’t been feeling well these past few days, and Brendon advised me to rest more, so I woke up late.” Shannon said with a voice only they could hear, smiling.
She looked peaceful with a hint of pink on her face, appearing very happy and pampered. Ranita pursed her lips, “Really? Brendon seems to be very caring towards you. From what you said, did Brendon stay at your house last night?”
This was a trap Ranita set for Shannon.
Shannon smiled innocently, “Brendon, of course, stayed with me.”
“Ranita, Brendon only mentioned breaking off the engagement with me to provoke me.”
Ranita didn’t know if Shannon’s words were true or not. But when it came to where Brendon was last night, Ranita had the ultimate say.
“Why didn’t he accompany you here then?”
“Brendon is busy, I didn’t want to disturb him.” Pausing for a moment, Shannon sweetly said, “Ranita, I know you have unresolved feelings, but your relationship with Brendon belongs to the past. You should be over it.”
Shannon’s tone was gentle, but there were barbs hidden in her words.
Ranita gave her a meaningful smile, “You’re right.”
Just then, Cindy came into the dressing room looking unhappy, her face dark, “Ranita, what were you thinking? Look at the clothes you’ve prepared, they’re ugly and rough. Shannon has delicate skin, what if she gets a scratch?”
Ranita looked at Cindy coldly, expressionless, “Regarding the clothing, I had already contacted you and sent a notification letter. Miss Cindy, didn’t you pay attention?”
