“You know, investing in movies is a risky business. Who knows if the audience will buy it,” Isai Nash said, raising his glass and speaking in a flattering tone. “But I really like Miss Riley. She’s beautiful and charming. Her smile makes my heart flutter.”
“For Miss Riley’s sake, I will definitely invest in this project. However…” Isai paused, his oily smile growing even slicker. “I just want a little favor. It would be even better if Miss Riley could have a few more drinks with me.”
Elijah had been in this circle for a long time, and being a man himself, he knew that Isai was clearly interested in Eve. In the past, Elijah would never have dared to touch this cash cow called Eve. But the company’s CEO had secretly informed him that Eve had offended someone she shouldn’t have, and that person was now out to get her.
They wanted her to secure the investor’s money first, and as for the new film, they could replace her once the funds were in place. Businessmen driven by money would naturally squeeze out the last bit of profit. That’s why Elijah had brought Eve to accompany the investor for dinner, and it turned out to be a fortunate choice.
“Eve, since Mr. Nash likes you, why don’t you have a few more drinks with him?” Elijah said, giving Eve a meaningful look.
Eve pretended not to see it, but she felt a pinch on her hand.
Elijah was just as oily and loved taking advantage of newcomers in the company. She was considered an old-timer, so Elijah had never dared to do anything to her before. But now…
Eve had a feeling that something wasn’t quite right.
“Eve, Mr. Nash is waiting!” Elijah lowered his voice and said, “We agreed on something, didn’t we? You’ll be in that script, but we need the money, right?”
“Just think about it. You’re going after a major award…” Elijah tried to persuade her.
Eve wasn’t willing, but the money from the investor was indeed crucial. Eve reluctantly raised her glass and smiled at Mr. Nash. “Then I’ll have a few more drinks with Mr. Nash.”
Once the door was opened, things started to get out of control.
Eve drank until she felt dizzy. Her alcohol tolerance was actually quite good, but today she had mixed red wine and hard liquor, which made her feel terrible.
To make matters worse, Elijah found an excuse to go to the restroom, leaving her alone. She couldn’t just leave the investor hanging.
Just then, she received a message from Ranita on her phone: “Dylan is at my place. Call me when you’re done with dinner.”
Eve quickly replied with her location: “I’m a bit drunk. I’m here having dinner with an investor. He’s a sleazy man with a lecherous gaze…”
“Miss Riley, who are you chatting with?” Isai asked, pouring her another glass of wine and placing his hand on her shoulder shamelessly, giving it a couple of squeezes.
Eve had initially held some hope for Elijah, but seeing Isai’s behavior made her feel uneasy.
“Mr. Nash, it’s my assistant. She asked if I wanted her to come and pick me up. I told her that I was enjoying myself here and asked her to come later… I haven’t finished sending the message yet!” Eve said.
As soon as Isai heard that, he immediately became delighted. “Yes, yes, we haven’t finished our drinks yet. You can tell your assistant not to come and pick you up.”
Isai had already booked a room upstairs in the hotel, waiting to spend a pleasant night with the beautiful woman.
Feeling dizzy and nauseous, Eve had to act and said, “Mr. Nash, let me finish sending the message to my assistant, and then could you pour me another glass?”
Isai, also intoxicated, felt elated. Naturally, he wouldn’t refuse a beautiful woman’s request and quickly went to pour the drink.
