“Ding dong!” Suddenly, the phone rang loudly.
Ranita was already tense and was startled by the sound. When she reached for her phone, she fumbled and dropped it on the ground.
She quickly bent down to pick it up but realized that it had fallen between Brendon’s legs. If she wanted to retrieve it, she would have to get close to him…
It was really awkward!
Ranita glanced up at him, coincidentally catching the man looking down at her. Their gazes met in the air, creating a wave of tension.
“Um… Can you move your leg a bit?” Ranita asked.
Brendon didn’t move.
Ranita grew annoyed and was about to get up when the man suddenly bent down to pick up something and handed it to her. He whispered lowly, “Be more careful next time.”
Ranita gritted her teeth and begrudgingly said, “Thank you.”
As she opened her phone, Ranita almost exploded with anger. It turned out that Brendon, this big scoundrel, was the one who scared her and made her drop her phone with his messages!
“What do you want to buy later?” Ranita stole a glance at Brendon from the corner of her eye, feeling disdainful. Did she really need him to buy anything for her?
“No need! And stop messaging me, or I’ll block you again!” Ranita replied, seething with anger.
“I don’t mind asking in person then!” Brendon quickly responded. Ranita’s hand trembled with anger, but she hesitated about whether or not to reply when Augustus returned.
Ranita was relieved to see her savior. “Augustus, you’re back!”
“Here’s some water for you.” Augustus kindly handed her a bottle of mineral water and sat down next to her. He said, “I chatted with a friend earlier, and he mentioned he found another good painting. I asked him to keep it for us. Shall we go see it together when we have time?”
Ranita didn’t expect Augustus to be so thoughtful and gratefully replied, “Thank you, Augustus!”
“Don’t mention it! By the way, I called your brother just now. Jedidiah invited me to have dinner at their place tonight, so after we’re done here, I’ll go home with you directly,” Augustus said.
“In such a rush, I haven’t prepared a gift for Ayaan yet!” Augustus’s voice wasn’t particularly loud, but Brendon, who was right beside them, heard every word clearly. His already icy expression turned even colder.
Ranita smiled and said, “No need!” She hadn’t finished speaking when her waist was poked again.
It wasn’t a heavy poke, but it wasn’t light either. It made Ranita’s entire side feel numb.
Such a small action was enough to stir up waves in her heart.
Ranita pursed her lips, and the spot where she had been bitten on her rosy lip turned a vibrant red like a rose petal, causing Brendon to swallow his saliva.
“What’s wrong?” Augustus noticed that she had stopped talking and asked with concern, “Are you feeling uncomfortable?”
“No!” Ranita wanted to move away, but she was tugged back, cautious yet reluctant. After a brief pause, she ultimately didn’t move.
Fortunately, the second half of the auction began soon.
The highlight of the second half was the final set of green jade. It wasn’t that the other auction items weren’t good, but for the customers who liked it, they were the best, so the bidding scene was quite lively.
Augustus raised his paddle a few times as well.
But strangely, every time Augustus raised his paddle, Brendon followed suit, and anything he wanted to bid on, Brendon snatched away.
“Ranita, the person next to you is the biggest sucker I’ve ever seen,” Augustus whispered to Ranita in a low voice.
Ranita was truly speechless.
In the end, Brendon probably won four or five auction items, totaling over thirty million…
And the items didn’t match Brendon’s usual style at all. When she was his wife, she had never seen him bid on anything similar before.
He really was a big sucker!
