“Others may be willing to tolerate you, but I don’t want to be the subject of gossip,” Ranita glared at him angrily and quickly ran away.
“Wait!” Brendon refused to let go.
“Mr. Stuart, when did you become so clingy? Is it amusing?” Ranita gritted her teeth and shook off his hand.
Ranita thought to herself that she had probably crossed the line and Brendon would surely get angry, but to her surprise, Brendon actually smiled.
His voice was already pleasant, and when he lowered his tone, it became husky, rich, and pleasing to the ear. Just his voice alone made Ranita feel her heart about to jump out of her chest.
“Do you need something?” Ranita’s fingers trembled as he cornered her against the wall. The narrow space caused the surrounding air to heat up, and her heart was thrown into chaos.
“Ranita, are you jealous?” Brendon’s thin lips curved into a faint smile, his dark eyes fixated on her with a dangerous glint.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about!” Ranita averted her gaze, afraid to look at him. But her heart was already a tangled mess, and her mind was like mush, unsure of how to respond.
I’m really pathetic!
“Ranita, you’re jealous!” Brendon’s voice was firm, and his smile grew wider.
“I’m not! Who’s jealous of you? Let go of me, or I’ll call for help!” Ranita became angry and embarrassed, and she kicked him directly on the shin.
Taken by surprise, Brendon let out a muffled groan.
“You’re trying to kill your own husband!”
“Hmph! What kind of husband are you?” Ranita said, feeling her anger dissipate. Why was Brendon so infuriating now?
The next second, Ranita noticed that Brendon became even more audacious. His face leaned closer, his lips pressed against her ear, and his voice grew lower. “You like me!”
Brendon could feel his heart starting to warm up.
This was a public place, but Brendon couldn’t quite control himself. He wanted to hold her without any regard for others and kiss her.
He grabbed Ranita’s hand and pressed it against the wall.
Ranita was almost enveloped in his arms, her mind buzzing, and she looked at Brendon, at a loss for words. It took her a while before she squeezed out a word from her throat, “You!”
His lips were so close, just a slight movement forward and he would be able to kiss her.
“Brendon! Brendon!” Just at that moment, Shannon’s voice rang out, and it felt like a thunderbolt striking Ranita’s mind, instantly snapping her back to reality.
“Brendon, let go!” Ranita’s expression turned cold, frosty even, and her voice became distant and indifferent. She said, “Let’s go.”
Sometimes, Ranita wanted to gather her courage and try to hold on, but after too many disappointments, she no longer wanted to do such foolish things.
The atmosphere turned cold and silent.
Brendon pursed his lips and finally let go.
He turned and walked away, and soon Shannon’s surprised voice came from around the corner, “Brendon, where did you go? No wonder I couldn’t find you.”
“Let’s go!” The man didn’t even bother to make excuses and left with indifference.
Ranita leaned against the wall, her heart feeling like it was being pierced by cacti, painful yet bloodless.
After a while, Augustus found his way to her. “Oh my goodness, I thought you had disappeared! What are you doing hiding here?”
Ranita snapped out of her daze and looked at Augustus blankly for a moment before calming her emotions and smiling. “It’s nothing, thank you for worrying. Let’s go eat!”
Ranita was lost in her thoughts, absent-minded throughout.
Suddenly, Augustus sighed and said, “Ranita, you seem distracted. Are you facing relationship problems? Although I’m a man, I might be able to give you some small advice!”
