In an instant, the atmosphere grew colder.
Shannon bit her lip in grievance and spoke in a coquettish voice, “Ranita, I’m sorry… I didn’t mean to.”
“Ranita! Can’t you speak properly?”
“No!” Ranita bypassed her, but her arm was grabbed by a man. “Ranita!”
Ranita glanced lightly at his hand and then at Shannon. “Miss Murphy, you better manage your fiancé!”
“Brendon!” Shannon’s lips bore a red mark from her biting. She nervously clutched Brendon’s arm. “People are watching! I…”
Brendon let go of her hand. “I’ll call you later.”
“No need!” Ranita refused, about to turn around and leave. Unexpectedly, she bumped into Gerardo face to face. He was with a pure and tempting woman.
“Ranita?” Gerardo raised an eyebrow. “What are you doing here? Are you following me?”
Ranita was speechless. “Mr. Newman, you’re overthinking!”
“Then why are you here?” Gerardo, being a young man, didn’t mind that Ranita had a child. After all, marrying a woman was for the sake of benefits, and as for love affairs, he could find them outside. So, after being annoyed by Augustus, Gerardo felt that Ranita was truly worth marrying.
“What bag caught your eye? I’ll buy it for you. Consider it a gift for our blind date just now.” The woman with long black hair next to Gerardo was not angry. She even said to Ranita, “You should thank Mr. Newman!”
Before Ranita could speak, a low and cold voice suddenly sounded, “If we’re talking about it, you’re not even worthy of carrying her shoes!”
Ranita was a bit surprised that Brendon would speak up for her.
“Who are you anyway? What does it have to do with you when I’m talking to her?” Gerardo glared angrily at Brendon, then looked at Shannon. “This woman looks familiar, like I’ve seen her somewhere.”
Brendon couldn’t be bothered to deal with him. He grabbed Ranita’s hand. “Come here, I have something to ask you.”
Saying that, he pulled Ranita towards the VIP room inside and closed the door. He pressed Ranita against the wall, his voice questioning, “That man just now said you were his blind date?”
“Is that not allowed?” Ranita looked at Brendon calmly. His breath was so close, occasionally grazing her skin, leaving traces like ripples breaking her heart’s calm surface.
Ranita’s back stiffened. “My family is concerned about my marriage, so arranging a blind date for me is normal.”
“Do you like him?” Brendon’s first impression of Gerardo wasn’t very good. He looked frivolous!
“Does it have anything to do with you whether I like him or not?” Ranita tilted her head.
“A blind date followed by flirting and buying bags, he’s not a good man.” Brendon frowned, clearly unhappy.
Ranita’s heart ached.
“I don’t know if he’s good or not, but at least he’s generous enough to plan on buying me a bag, isn’t he?” Ranita smiled lightly, her face calm. “Brendon, how long are you going to press me like this?”
Brendon stared at her without saying a word.
The atmosphere grew a bit cold, but their bodies, which were getting closer due to their friction, gradually warmed up.
Ranita couldn’t take it anymore. “Brendon, let go!”
Ranita forcefully pushed him away and turned to leave, but she was pulled back again. She was dragged backward by Brendon, her brows furrowing and her back tensing. She was about to get angry when she suddenly felt something scorching behind her.
Both of them froze.
A surge of anger rose within Brendon, and he unconsciously rubbed against her.
Ranita’s neck instantly burned up, spreading to her ears. Anger filled her eyes as she turned her head and gritted her teeth. “Brendon! What are you doing!”
