Ranita was already feeling dizzy, and hearing this bad news made her feel even worse.
“I’ll pack up and leave right away!” Despite being sick, Ranita got up to call Ayaan and also called Jenney to ask her to stop by and help pack.
Luckily, Jenney was capable and quickly arranged a flight for Ranita. She even came over to help with packing.
At first, Ranita’s face turned red from the exertion of packing while feeling ill. But after sweating a bit, she actually started feeling better – except for some unsteady steps.
Jenney bought the fastest flight available but it was already evening by the time Ranita arrived at the airport in Steland.
“Jenney, I will call Brown and explain everything to him. I’ll email you about the other matters after I get off the plane.” After finishing her conversation with Jenney, Ranita called Brown. Someone in her family was sick, and Brown couldn’t possibly refuse to let her go.
Fortunately, Ranita had mentioned it to Brown before, so he was mentally prepared.
After a long and tiring journey, Ranita arrived at Steland Airport in the evening. She held a sleeping Ayaan in her arms and turned on her phone.
Coincidentally, a news notification came in.
“… National goddess Shannon had an accident during a rehearsal, fell unconscious, and was taken to the hospital. Her fiancé appeared outside the industry…”
As soon as Ranita saw the name ‘Shannon’, she felt annoyed and swiped it away.
Ranita handed her luggage to Olivia and headed straight to the hospital with Ayaan.
However, when she arrived at the ward, she hesitated.
“Ranita? Why didn’t you call me when you arrived?” Jedidiah’s voice suddenly came from behind. Ayaan, who was half asleep, woke up and reached out his little hand, smiling at Jedidiah. “Uncle!”
Jedidiah took him in his arms, a tired smile appearing on his weary face. “Ayaan has grown heavier!”
“You’ve had a hard journey!”
“Not at all!” Ranita caught a whiff of the smell of smoke on him, and her eyes suddenly welled up. “How is Dad?”
Since she went to college, she rarely saw the family, and later on, she married Brendon and took Ayaan abroad. She had been so unfilial!
“In the beginning, he wasn’t doing well, but he has improved in the past couple of days! The situation is not bad, but he insists on waiting for you to come back before having the surgery.”
As he spoke, Ranita couldn’t hold back her tears any longer.
“Dad… is it because of me that he got sick?” When Ranita was in college, Benedict Bowman was diagnosed with cardiovascular blockage, and the doctors advised them not to stress him.
Ranita didn’t have a good relationship with Chole, and she was afraid that their disputes would affect Benedict. So she made up her mind to move out on her own and tried her best not to go back to the Bowman family.
Benedict was heartbroken at first.
But she persisted, and Benedict had no choice! However, Ranita always knew that Benedict loved her dearly.
“Ranita, don’t talk nonsense! Dad didn’t get sick because of you…” Jedidiah hadn’t finished his sentence when a sharp female voice interrupted, “Dad got a heart attack because of her and the illegitimate child she gave birth to!”
“Ranita, you have the nerve to come back!”
The sound of hurried high heels came closer, followed by a figure rushing towards Ranita, her hand raised to slap her.
Dizzy from her flight and caught off guard, Ranita didn’t react in time, and her face was slapped hard.
Five finger marks immediately appeared on her fair face, stinging painfully.
“Chole!” Ranita was dizzy, but that didn’t stop her from retaliating with a slap of her own, landing squarely on Chole’s face. The same five finger marks, the same pain!
