The surrounding noise was loud, but Brendon only heard Ranita’s soft voice and saw her furrowed yet sparkling eyes.
“Got it!” Brendon chuckled softly. “Hold on tight, if we fall together…”
“Stop talking!” Ranita glared at him in embarrassment. “If we don’t run faster, Billy’s dad will win!”
Brendon had a good physique and still had energy while half-carrying Ranita. “First time I’ve seen you so eager for first place,” he teased.
“Then can you do it?” This was not something to say to a man, but Brendon looked deeply into her eyes and chuckled softly, “What do you think?”
Ranita stifled a laugh as he held her all the way to the finish line.
And then they achieved the ultimate victory!
Breathing heavily, Brendon shamelessly asked, “How about that? Did I do well?”
Ranita grinned, her ears turning red and hot. She said, “If it weren’t for Billy’s dad suddenly stumbling, do you think we could have gotten first place?”
Brendon obediently kept quiet.
In truth, Ranita didn’t necessarily have to win first place. She just didn’t want to disappoint Ayaan. Initially, there was no hope, but unexpectedly, right at the critical moment, Billy’s dad, who was ahead of them, stumbled.
“Mummy, Daddy, you’re amazing! I got another medal!” Although these medals were not valuable, seeing Ayaan so happy made Ranita happy too.
Having secured first place in two events, Ayaan was satisfied.
The remaining activities were just some small games, and Ayaan pulled Brendon to play. Ranita sat in the rest area and watched them play.
The weather today was lovely, with a gentle breeze. Ranita couldn’t tell if it was the intense sunlight taking away the chill or if her heart was burning too hot, but she felt sweat forming on her back and palms.
Good times always passed quickly.
After the event ended, Ranita took Ayaan and left the kindergarten together. “Thank you for today!”
“New Daddy, I had a great time today!” Ayaan hugged Brendon’s leg, expressing his feelings.
“Mommy, the event is over. Can Uncle Stuart still be my daddy?” Pausing for a moment, Ayaan pouted and pleaded to Ranita, “Mommy, can we finish New Daddy’s game after I fall asleep?”
Looking at her son’s hopeful eyes, Ranita didn’t know how to refuse him.
Sometimes, Ayaan could be mischievous, but most of the time, he was obedient. Coupled with his intelligence and quick learning, he didn’t give Ranita much trouble.
But no matter what, he was still a child under four years old.
Longing for a father’s love was in his nature.
“Mommy, is it okay?” The little boy looked at her pitifully, his chubby face drooping, causing great heartache.
Ranita couldn’t resist his persistence.
“Alright.”
The little boy immediately cheered, “That’s great! Thank you, Mommy!” He hugged Ranita and immediately turned to embrace Brendon, holding onto his thigh and asking, “New Daddy, can you take me and Mommy out for dinner tonight?”
“We won medals today. Shouldn’t we celebrate?” Brendon, enchanted by his son’s adorable appearance, smiled softly, “Alright! I will take you out for a big meal!”
Ranita made a reservation at a restaurant that Ayaan liked.
During the meal, he chattered away with Brendon.
Ranita’s heart ached with bitterness.
All this happiness was temporary for Ayaan. Brendon would eventually leave. That was why she didn’t want to tell Ayaan the truth about Brendon’s real identity.
It would be too cruel for Ayaan and for her.
