Steve’s flight was at night, and the journey was rushed. When Steve told Ayaan about it, Ayaan pouted and looked unhappy.
“Ayaan, I promised I would come back soon,” Steve said.
“I don’t want you to! You promised me you’d accompany me to the kindergarten sports day!” Ayaan hugged his chubby little arms and looked very upset.
Ayaan had a delicate and adorable appearance, with big pitiful eyes that most people can’t resist. Steve, in particular, held Ayaan lovingly in his arms.
“I’m sorry, I couldn’t keep my promise. How about I buy you a gift when I come back?”
Ranita was afraid that Ayaan would be stubborn and insisted, so she rubbed his head and said, “Uncle Pearson goes to save people, so you shouldn’t be willful.”
“Save people? Like my firefighting hero dad?” Ayaan suddenly became enthusiastic. “Uncle Pearson, that’s amazing!”
“When I grow up, I want to be just as amazing!”
That was how he comforted himself!
Steve played with Ayaan for a while, had a meal, and then left. Ranita saw him off at the door. As he turned around, he reached out and hugged Ranita. “Ranita, take care of yourself and Ayaan. When the project is over…”
Steve didn’t finish his sentence.
Ranita asked in confusion, “Hmm? And then?”
“I’ll tell you when I come back!” Steve smiled. “Goodbye!”
“Do you need me to take you to the airport?”
Steve had been by her side for three years, and she had already considered him as family. His sudden departure made her feel a bit reluctant.
“Don’t you want to let me go?” Steve raised an eyebrow, looking at Ranita with calm eyes mixed with tenderness.
Ranita’s eyes welled up with tears.
Back then, she was living alone here, pregnant, and suddenly Steve appeared. And after she gave birth to Ayaan, he moved from Kurima to Slovenia.
Ranita was deeply moved.
She even thought that if time passed like this, if one day Dr. Pearson asked her to be together, she might agree…
“Dr. Pearson, I heard that the places for medical aid are not in good condition. You’re quite fussy, take care of yourself.” Pausing for a moment, Ranita added, “And be safe, come back early.”
“I and Ayaan will be waiting for you at home.”
These final words gave Steve great courage.
Ranita was held tightly in his embrace.
Under the streetlight, this hug lasted for a minute.
“I’m leaving! I’ll bring you interesting gifts when I come back! Also, apologize to Ayaan for me, I couldn’t accompany him to the sports day.”
“Okay! Hurry, or you’ll miss your flight!”
Ranita watched Steve leave, then turned back home. Just as she took a few steps, she stared in disbelief at the silent man standing in the shadow by the road. “What are you doing here?”
Ranita couldn’t have imagined that the person who should be in Berlin had followed her here.
Brendon stared at her expressionlessly, his eyes dark and deep, like an unfathomable abyss, somewhat intimidating.
Ranita frowned, seeing him not saying anything, and she walked around him to go home.
But just as she reached the stairs, he grabbed her arm and pushed her against the wall! Ranita got angry. “Brendon! What are you doing?”
Brendon’s voice was cold. “I shouldn’t have come here to disturb you, seeing you embracing another man on the street!”
He was clearly jealous.
