Book:A Successful Career After Divorce Published:2024-6-4

“Brendon, what can we change by having a good conversation? We’re divorced, living separate lives. I have someone I want to protect, and you have someone you need to care for. Can’t we mind our own business until we grow old?”
“The events of that night, don’t think too much about it. It was just a long and lonely night, finding someone to accompany me for a while.”
Ranita pushed Brendon away and entered the restroom.
She leaned against the sink, taking a long time to calm her turbulent emotions.
Unwillingness filled her heart, and Ranita wanted to fight for something. But every time she made a small attempt, it was crushed.
Avoidance couldn’t solve the problem, but time could.
Perhaps there would be regrets, but Ranita understood that she couldn’t force what wasn’t meant to be.
She thought Brendon should have left, so she opened the door to leave. But to her surprise, as soon as she stepped outside, Brendon grabbed her. “Come with me!”
“Brendon, what are you doing? Let go of me!” Ranita was dragged to the door by Brendon, who showed no intention of letting go. It made her cheeks flush with anger. “Let go! My things are still inside!”
Brendon stopped and pulled her back inside.
“Cynthia…” Someone saw Ranita return and tried to invite her, but was frightened away by Brendon’s cold gaze.
“What are you standing there for? Get your things!”
Brendon was fierce, like he had eaten explosives.
Ranita picked up her belongings, barely able to catch her breath, and was pulled out by Brendon. He walked with large strides, and Ranita had to jog in her high heels to keep up.
“Brendon, slow down!” Ranita was furious and wanted to stop, but the man’s strength was too great. He kept pulling her forward without pausing.
“My feet hurt!”
Brendon glanced at her out of the corner of his eye and sneered, “Why didn’t you mention your feet hurting when you were dancing earlier?”
“What’s it to you?! Let go of me! If you don’t let go, I’ll scream for help!” Ranita gritted her teeth in anger. “Believe me, I’ll take you to the police station!”
“Go ahead and scream!” Brendon showed no fear and pulled her out of the door.
A cold wind blew, causing Ranita to shiver.
It was so cold!
Suddenly, Brendon stopped in his tracks ahead, and Ranita couldn’t stop in time, bumping into him. Warmth enveloped her, carrying a faint scent of grapefruit from his body, making Ranita’s heart feel warm.
“What…?”
“Put on your coat!” Brendon wrapped her coat around her, and then grabbed the coat and pulled her forward.
She was stuffed into the car, greeted by the warm air from the heater. Before she could say anything, the car rushed out.
“Brendon, are you crazy? You don’t have an international driver’s license…” Ranita banged on the car door. “Let me get out! If we get caught, we’ll end up in jail together tonight…”
Before she could finish her sentence, Ranita noticed the checkpoint up ahead.
“Brendon… Stop, stop quickly! They’re checking cars ahead!” Ranita’s anger shifted, and she slapped the man’s arm. “Stop quickly!”
But Brendon didn’t listen at all. He stepped on the accelerator and zoomed past the checkpoint!
“Brendon!” Ranita was furious, her head spinning.
Not long after, the sound of police sirens came from behind. They must have caught up. Ranita didn’t want to make tomorrow’s headlines, so she shouted angrily, “Stop the car!”
Brendon finally stopped by the side of the road.
“You get out quickly!” With the police car getting closer, Ranita didn’t have time to get out of the car. She climbed over to the driver’s seat, but before she could move, the man pulled her over and she ended up sitting on his lap…
