Chapter 379 Never to Be Seen Again

Book:A Successful Career After Divorce Published:2024-6-4

Ranita’s words were too bland. They lacked any vitality or emotion. At this moment, Ranita seemed like a gust of wind that he couldn’t hold onto, as if she could disappear at any moment.
His heart was pounding fiercely, and he felt restless and pained.
“Thank you, Ranita! It would be great if you could come!” Shannon paused for a moment before taking out an invitation from her purse. “Chris and the others have already received their invitations. Since we haven’t seen you in a while, we weren’t able to give yours to you earlier. Please make sure to come!”
Ranita took the invitation with a calm expression and said, “We need to continue eating now. You two can go ahead.”
Shannon bit her lip and pouted coquettishly, “Ranita, I won’t disturb your meal then!”
In reality, Shannon had been feeling nauseous for the past half month; she couldn’t sleep well at night because she was always worried about Ranita suddenly appearing and saying something unfavorable about her.
Fortunately nothing happened.
Shannon felt relieved!
At that moment, when Ranita suddenly jumped out of the car to escape, Chris appeared in time and took her away, thwarting the plan! Shannon and Robert cleaned up the loose ends, leaving no evidence. Could Ranita accuse her without any proof?
After Shannon and Brendon left, Dylan slammed the cup onto the table. “Ranita, you coward! Why are you even considering the invitation? Are you really going?”
“Don’t go! I just want to punch Shannon whenever I see her!” Eve also clenched her small fists, ready to throw a punch. If she weren’t a celebrity, she might have actually hit her.
“Alright, calm down! Learn from Dr. Pearson and Mr. Webster!” Ranita reached out, tossed the invitation into the trash, and wiped it repeatedly with a disinfectant towel.
Looking up, she saw everyone staring at her. Ranita smiled, but her dark eyes couldn’t quite convey the joy, carrying a touch of poignant sadness. “I’m fine, don’t look at me like that.”
“Are you really okay?” Steve asked.
“I’m really fine! Brendon is engaged to Shannon. Why should I be sad or shocked? He divorced me for her, after all,” Ranita’s lips curled up, smiling more brightly. “It’s you guys who received the invitations and didn’t tell me.”
“Ranita…” Chris bit his lip, looking at her with a hint of heartache in his eyes.
Ranita seemed to understand a bit. It seemed like the whole world knew about her unusual feelings for Brendon, except him.
“I’m really fine! Thanks for your hard work lately! I’m hungry; let’s eat!” Ranita buried herself in her food.
Her emotions were a mess. In the middle of the meal, she went to the restroom.
Coincidentally, she ran into Brendon in the corridor’s reflection, the two brushing shoulders.
“Wait…” Suddenly, Brendon called out to Ranita. “Ranita, where have you been these days? Your phone was unreachable. I went to the apartment to find you, but no one was there.”
Ranita raised an eyebrow, her voice indifferent. “Mr. Stuart, what do you want?”
Brendon thought of that child. “That day… I’m sorry! I want to do another paternity test. Is that okay?”
Ranita shook her head. “You asked me where I’ve been, right? I’ll tell you, I went to the hospital, having my postpartum confinement!”
Ranita’s eyelids trembled gently. She mustered the courage to look at him, imprinting his features in her eyes and mind.
The young man in her memories and the present seemed to overlap, appearing the same yet different.
“Brendon, goodbye!”
