“I don’t want it, take it away!” Ranita glared at him and angrily closed the box, shoving it into Brendon’s hands. “Take it away right now!”
Brendon was so angry that smoke seemed to be coming out of his nose.
“Ranita… this isn’t for you, it’s for the baby in your belly. Do you think I have nothing better to do?” The man gritted his teeth and spoke through clenched jaws. “Although we’re divorced, the child is mine and as a man, I have a responsibility to take care of the child.”
Not only did Brendon not take the box away, he even put it directly into her fridge before making another phone call. Caleb then brought two more boxes up.
The fridge was completely full.
Ranita was extremely speechless.
“Brendon, what exactly do you want?”
“I don’t want anything! You’re my child’s mother now and I have a responsibility to take care of you. Just tell me what you want to eat and don’t bother with outsiders!”
After pausing for a moment, Brendon stared at her with dark eyes.
Ranita belatedly realized the sourness in his tone and her heart churned like waves on a lake. She pursed her lips without saying anything.
She couldn’t even get angry anymore; Brendon was her weakness and as soon as he cared just a little bit about her she would become incredibly soft-hearted.
“I’m leaving!”
Brendon turned around angrily and walked towards the door but stopped in his tracks before turning back around again, “I tried them already; they’re pretty sweet but don’t eat too many.”
“Also… eating takeaway food isn’t good for your health so hire someone to cook for you instead. Put that on my account.”
As Ranita listened, she felt both bitter yet somehow sweet inside.
This tiny bit of concern felt like honey mixed with sugar water flowing through her heart, making all sadness disappear without trace and leaving behind an incredible sweetness instead.
After pausing once more, Brendon added, “Oh yeah…change your password something harder…too easy.”
Ranita thought inwardly: this password easy? It’s just that Brendon is too smart plus he knows my habits well which makes him think its simple enough.
Just then there came sound from outside followed by something breaking!
Clang!
Ranita jumped while Brendon stopped walking abruptly.
Boom!
A deafening thunderclap sounded causing Ranita crouch down.
She covered her ears while suddenly felt warm palms wrapping around hers tightly muffling out all sound from outside
.
“Don’t be afraid,” Brendon comforted her, taking a few steps to the window to pull the curtains closed before returning to stroke her back. “I closed the curtains, you don’t have to be scared.”
“Have you had dinner yet? Go eat something first.”
Ranita looked at Brendon with red-rimmed eyes.
Another loud boom made Ranita’s hair stand on end and she felt like a wet cat, all soft and pitiful.
Brendon’s warm fingers lightly touched her neck as he gently squeezed it. His voice was low but soothing. “Don’t be afraid, I’m here with you.”
Ranita nodded foolishly.
In Brendon’s gaze, she ate takeout food but only managed to eat a little bit before feeling too full. Outside, not only did the thunder grow louder but also raindrops pattered against everything on the balcony.
Logically speaking, Ranita shouldn’t show weakness in front of Brendon; she should make him leave as soon as possible! But scared of thunder and lightning herself, all she wanted was someone by her side…
If that person happened to be Brendon then her heart would fill with unprecedented courage.
