GABRIELS POV,
After Noelle disappeared from his sight Gabriel stood there for a while just feeling empty and sad. It seemed he only got such a short amount of time to share his love with Noelle. But he must keep faith that this is not the end, and they will get to spend much more time together. He takes a deep sigh and goes inside to pack his bag. He already said goodbye to Dagahra and the rest so there is nothing left for him to do. He meets Julias at the square and together they walk out of Liberum. He glances over his shoulder one last time and hopes with all his heart that he will see his beloved city again. Zeus decided it would detect the least attention to walk so he and Julias have a 3-day walk ahead. Julias stays silent for most of the time, but Gabriel doesn’t mind. He has a lot on his mind at the moment so some peace and quiet is just what he needs.
After a few hours walking they decide to call it a night and set up a camp. Gabriel disappears into his own tent and lies awake for a long while thinking about Noelle. Where would she be now, what is she thinking, is she scared? He eventually falls asleep from exhaustion and dreams about laying in a field of flowers with his wife. Her big green eyes looking at him full of love and wonder.
He wakes up feeling a bit better and he decides that it won’t do him any good to have such a depressed mood. He has to pick himself up and work hard to achieve the goal they have. He does a little meditation and then heads out to greet Julias.
Julias already made a fire and is now making some eggs and coffee. “Good morning,” Gabriel says lightly.
Julias looks up but doesn’t say anything back to him. Gabriel knows that Noelle likes Julias a lot, so he has no problem with giving him some time to adjust his opinion about him. He sits down and takes out the journal that Zeus gave them.
“We should probably start reading about the Mortal Realm and the reigning family,” Gabriel says.
Julias nods and Gabriel opens the book and reads out loud, “Since the battle of the Realms the Mortal Realm has chosen a direction of independence. They believe in staying out of conflicts and relying on their own people. They have created an independent economy entirely based in the Mortal Realm itself. Since the battle of the Realms, they have known relative peace besides some minor conflicts. talking to species from other Realms is discouraged and the loyalty for their own people is very strong. Since the last witch ruler on the throne died the Monett family has been in charge. Selected by the people themselves. Currently ruling is Midas Monett. His wife has died an unknown cause and he has one daughter Luna Monett who is the heir to the throne.”
Then Zeus has written under that, “Honestly I wish I could tell you more, but the mortals are very secretive so much of what is going on there is unknown.”
Gabriel looks at Julias and asks, “So what do you think?”
Julias takes a sip from his coffee, “Hard to say but if they are such a unity then if we can convince Midas the rest will follow.”
Gabriel stares into the distance, “The avoiding of conflicts could be a problem and, in my experience, when there is a lot of secrecy there is always something nasty, they try to hide.”
Julias says softly, “Guess you would know all about that.”
Gabriel takes a sigh and pretends he didn’t hear what Julias said.
For the rest of the journey, they don’t talk much, and they arrive at Dandion in 3 days’ time. Gabriel expected to be greeted at the gate but there is nobody there.
Julias looks at him confused, “Didn’t Zeus send them a letter?”
Gabriel nods, “We should just walk to the palace, maybe they misunderstood the day or something.”
They walk through the busy streets that are crawling with people. There are markets, houses, shops, and restaurants everywhere. It seems to be a booming city with a lot of life and activity. Luckily the glass castle is easy to spot from a distance because they would have probably gotten lost otherwise.
In front of the big gate of the glass castle, there are guards so Gabriel walks to them.
“Hello, we are expected by Midas Monett.”
The guard looks at him grumpily, “It is lord Midas Monett for you.”
Gabriel already feels annoyed by this authority game, “Okay so can we go in now?”
The guard looks him up and down, “And who might you be?”
Julias chuckles behind him, “Like you wouldn’t recognize the mighty King of the Sky, the feared angel of lightning.”
Which would have sounded nice if Julias didn’t bring it like he was a complete joke. The guard doesn’t even show a sign of expression and says, “We have been instructed to inform you that you can stay at the Lioness Inn. Lord Midas will see you when his schedule allows it.”
Now even Julias doesn’t seem to think it is funny anymore and he walks to the guard, “Are you serious? Didn’t he read what we came to talk about?”
The guard looks fiercely into Julias his eyes, “Lord Midas has a lot of important responsibilities. You guys have been granted entrance into Dandion as in high exception. Now leave!”
Gabriel can see that Julias is about to get very angry, so he puts his hand on his shoulder and says, “Let’s go there is no point.”
When they walk to the Lioness Inn Julias looks at him furiously, “Can you believe that? How can he not take this seriously?”
Gabriel grunts, “Like I said, it is going to be difficult with conflict avoiding people. This city is doing great with staying out of people’s business so when trouble comes knocking, they won’t be very eager to get involved.”
They find the Inn after 10 minutes of walking and both go to their separate rooms. 4 days go by without any message from Lord Midas and every day Gabriel goes to the guard to ask when he will meet them. Every day they get the same answer that Lord Midas is busy with important matters. On the 5th day, Gabriel has had enough and storms into Julias his room. Julias immediately stands up and asks, “Did he finally send a message?”
Gabriel says angry, “No but we don’t have time to wait any longer. If he doesn’t want to invite us in, then we just invite ourselves.”
Julias quickly walks after Gabriel as he walks out of the room his hands crackling with electricity.
