CATRIONA
Jesus Christ Jayden, you’re alive. “Are you okay? Yes baby, I am alive and okay. And it’s because of you. You brought me back. He said, thrilling me. I jumped on him into a tight hug.
Thank you for coming back. I thought I’d lose you. I said to him, whining. He held me back affectionately. Hugging him like this, I realized that he doesn’t feel like himself. His body feels different, and weak. Is it because of the virus they talked about? Or, is it because he wasn’t in his flesh for so long?
I broke the hug and moved my eyes all over him. He really looks different. Like physically.
“Jayden, are you okay?” I asked the second time.
I’m fine, my love.
I rose up on my feet and offered him my hand for support and he didn’t rebuff my offer. As he rose up I almost went back down with him because of his weight. He’s very weak but very heavy.
When he was on his feet he turned to the still stunned woman…
I know everything now. He said to her and she furrowed, confused. What are you talking about? She asked. The reason why you want the three of us for sacrifice. He replied. Now that you know, it means we won’t be able to play the hide and seek game. She said,
Jayden turned me around to face him. I’d like to have a word with this woman. Can you wait for me outside? It won’t take long, okay. He said.
Why do you want me to wait outside? Whatever you want to talk to her about, I would like to hear it too. Aren’t we in this together? I asked him, annoyed that he’s pushing me away.
He put his hands on my shoulders in a gentle way but I slightly staggered. His hands are heavy. It looks like he doesn’t have control over his body yet. Jayden are you sure….. Am fine baby, don’t worry about me.
Listen to your mate, little girl and leave. Let the adults talk. The woman said. I didn’t give her my attention.
It’s okay baby. He said. I nodded and ambled outside. I got a seat near the door where I could get a chance of eavesdropping on their skull session. I wiggled my ears to carefully listen but they were talking in small words making it so difficult for me to get anything. I sat down for like twenty minutes without getting anything and I became impatient.
I got up and went to the door.
I leaned on it on either side of my body and tried to earwig but still I didn’t get anything. What are they talking about that I can’t hear? I murmured and tiptoed, pressing my ear on the door.
I gave up on earwigging and weighed my body onto the door in defeat.
After a moment of silence, the door was opened and I went with it and fell down Infront of this witch.
Catriona, were you eavesdropping? Jayden asked. I closed my eyes furrowing my lips and face, This is embarrassing. I muttered. I looked up at the both of them as they did so…
UHM… I cleared my throat. I wasn’t eavesdropping, I was just going to open the door and that’s when you opened it. I stuttered as I got up.
You have two hours, Mr Jayden Alpha. The witch said, her eyes on Jayden. Uhh, “what kind of address is that? Can’t she say it right. Ugh! I don’t like her at all. She irritates me.
And you have the same time. Jayden responded back to her. I raised my brows confused. What’s going on here? I asked. The witch just gave me a long gaze and plowed away. What is her problem? I followed my mocks as she disappeared.
Behave girl, I can see you mocking me. Wow, do you even have eyes at the back of your head?
What was that about? I asked Jayden, turning my attention to him.
He didn’t answer and just pulled me into a sudden hug. I hugged him back feeling happy that he’s here with me. I love you baby. I love you too. I said and planted a kiss on his bare torso.
We stayed there tethered together for a long time feeling each other until I broke it. Jayden, aren’t you going to berate me? Why would I berate you my love? Of what you saw me doing with…. Let’s not talk about anything now. Today we have to leave this place before it gets dark and continue with our journey. He said. But Jayden, let’s not talk about anything okay? Later. He said. I sighed and nodded. But how are we going to leave? How will we escape this place? They won’t even allow it because we are to be ablated through immolation. The place as it is is not that scary but it’s people. I ranted. He touched me on the cheeks and started caressing them. Don’t worry my love, I am going to get you out of here. And that’s TODAY. He said. I smiled at that. He bent down to give me a kiss but just tumbled down.
Jayden… I called his name, shouting as fear surged through me. “What happened to him?” I’ve never seen him in this state. I knelt down near him and lifted his head onto my lap. “What happened to you Jayden? Something is wrong right?
I’m okay baby. Am just feeling a little dizzy and cold. He said and i was surprised. ” Cold? Are you saying you’re cold? This is very new to me and surprising. I never heard you complaining about being dizzy or cold. You’re not just cold but weak as well Jayden. Wait here, I’ll go and tell that woman to get me some clothes for you to put on. I said and rose up on my feet to leave but he stopped me. I don’t need clothes now. I have to talk to Gabe first. He said and pushed himself up. No, you’ll get sick if you don’t have clothes on. I said and he let out a weak laugh. “And why is that? I asked bewildered.
Baby, don’t forget that I am a werewolf. if you’re worried about that. He said. Jayden, I am serious. Am worried sick , and besides that, you’re already not feeling well.
Come on baby, lead the way to Gabe. I have to talk to him and it’s very urgent. We have two hours to do whatever we have to do and leave. He said. Okay. I wanted to ask him what he’s talking about but I held myself.
We reached the tree house and climbed the stairs inside. Jayden didn’t want to show it in my eyes but something is not right with him.
The door to the room was not closed so I gestured to him to enter. I awkwardly followed behind him feeling the shame of what I did wearing me on.
Gabriel was surely still inside sitting on that small bed into a relaxed position as if he rules the world. My heart started beating so fast to the sight of him.
Jayden, I didn’t expect you now. “Weren’t you supposed to be dead for nine days as that three-head woman said?
What’s with him? Isn’t he happy to see his friend back and alive? I self-ask.
When Gabriel saw me staring at him warily, he cleared his throat…
“Your okey man?” He asked and I got a light smile.
I need a word with you Gabe. How rude? Can’t he be a little warm. I murmured. What is it about? Gabriel asked. Can you leave us a minute baby? Jayden asked, pulling my attention. Not again Jayden. I’m not going anywhere, I am staying put. Please baby, don’t argue with me. We are going to talk about something very important. He said. Am I not important enough to be in your important conversation? Catriona please.
No, I am adamant…
“Catriona,” He yelled, startling me.
What’s wrong with you man? Gabriel asked. Did you have to raise your voice at her like that? Gabriel tried to reach me but I stormed out. I heard Gabriel calling out for me but Jayden stopped him. Let’s talk. This is very important. He said. I was very hurt by his sudden attitude. Very important. Am I not important!!
I climbed down and reached outside.
Why did he act like that toward me? I looked up in the sky on the verge of tears. Why does it hurt so much? Am used to this kind of treatment from other people, but not him, especially now that we are romantically involved. I didn’t and never expected him to yell at me like that.
I haunched down as I patiently waited for them to finish their conversation.
I was still whining, the little feet stood before me. I looked up and just to see a little girl smiling at me. I think I’m getting used to their different features. Because I didn’t freak out when I saw her.
“Hey little one!” I said , smiling back.
Am not a kid to call me little one. She said, Hmm, you’re not? Then which number are you on? I asked her. I don’t understand what you’re saying. She said, “What I mean is the level number of your age. When I ask, “Which level are you on? I mean to say the number of your age. Like, when you say 6, that means you’re six years old. Then you can answer me, I am on level six, or am on number six.
Uhhhh, now I understand. She said, “But why do you ask it that way? “She asked. Uhm, because some people don’t like telling their ages directly. “Especially us women.” I whispered the last part. She giggled. Now princess, will you tell me the number you’re on?
First promise me that when you go back to your world you won’t tell anyone? She said. I promise, I won’t tell anyone. Don’t worry, I am good at keeping secrets. I told her replying to her answer.
She lowered a little to whisper in my ear. I’m on level 300. She said,
There’s no such level in age. I whispered back. It is, in my world. She said, Are you saying you’re three hundred years old? No, I am three hundred and forty six years old. I blinked rapidly in utter shock not believing whether she’s being real or not. Are you for real? I asked her. She nodded. Okay, I’ll believe you. Now can I tell you my secret too? I asked her and she nodded. Promise me that you won’t tell anyone too. I promise. She said,
My heart beats for two men. And I think I’m falling for my mate’s friend too.
