But… If I walk in there and say all that, I’ll surely be confined to a mental institution because, nobody would ever believe me except maybe Markian. And even if Markian believes me, when he gets to find out about Sophy’s death, would he still stand by my side? I don’t even know if I really killed my sister or not, he might even reject this child” Livy said as she burst into tears.
She looked for somewhere to sit and I could tell just how perturbed she was. Her uncertainties and questions were the only kind that I didn’t have answers to.
After everything that had happened to her, I’m amazed she was still brave and strong to still come to the hospital.
“Do you think you did it?- do you think that you’re capable of killing your sister?” I asked carelessly.
“No! Never! I would never hurt Sophia. She’s the very reason your entire family now thinks I’m insane. When we were both young, she was so scared because of an incident that took place and feared for what my mother would do to her, so I had no other option but to give fake responses to the doctor’s analyses. I would have gone through hell and high waters to see that no harm came to her.” She stated sternly and confidently.
“I believe you. But, since you can’t remember what happened, you can at least be able to savage what’s left of your marriage by keeping the pictures of what happened that day away from Markian. You can not say anything about it, ever again.” I stated unequivocally.
She looked at me wide-eyes like I was crazy, but I was dead serious.
“(Scoffs )… You can’t be serious… You know I can’t do that, that would be lying to Markian all our lives.” She countered.
“But you’ll have to, at least until your memory returns and you’re certain that you didn’t kill your sister. Look, Markian have ever only dreamed of having a family of his own. A family he can honor and cherish, and a family he won’t mess up unlike the one we both grew up in. He sees you as that family, and maybe if you’re lucky to get past this stage, you both might have a chance at being happy. But if you go ahead and tell Markian about you being involved in Sophia’s death, you’ll lose him forever.” I replied plainly.
The fact that Markian had once upon a time loved Sophia, and had made her his world was true. So, God forbid he gets to find out that Livy was the cause of one of his greatest losses.
I’m finally giving up on Livy, but I would not want to send her into the lion’s den filled with wrath and snares, just because of some truth that she doesn’t even have memories of.
“And what if he finds out? He’ll think I lied to him and that I betrayed him again. This is so exhausting- I’m so tired of all these hurdles.” She commented exasperated.
“I’ll handle it, I promise you. But you need to leave here, and get some rest first. You’re doing these for the sake of your baby’s future and I know it’s hard. But, you can only strain yourself so far, you need to think about your health and the baby’s too. I’ll tell you when it’s clear and less crowded to come see Markian, ok?” I requested, as she reluctantly nodded her head.
But, something caught her attention as she stared down at her phone with confused eyes.
“Livy?… Livy! Is something wrong?” I asked, as I rushed to her side in a haste and shoving her shoulder slightly to bring her back to reality.
“It’s my mother. I just received a text from the private nurse… she’s awake.” Livy blurted out surprised, but not so glad.
Maybe she is just exhausted and tired, she doesn’t know how to feel about the news.
“That’s a wonderful news, you should be happy.” I commented excitedly, and she nodded her head as she started tearing up again.
“I’m very happy… I have to go to her” she confessed in tears.
At least another good thing came out after all these madness, and it made me glad. As she stood up to leave, she paused for a moment and immediately turned towards me to say,
“You’ll definitely find a wonderful person who would be willing to love, protect and sacrifice anything just for your happiness. That’s because, you are a wonderful and amazing person, Daniel… Thank you.”
After that, she left and the room suddenly felt very empty. It took me few seconds before I understood what she meant by what she just said.
Olivia Markian Winfrey just turned me down with one of the most famous turn-down phrases in history, but I wasn’t upset or sad.
I was grateful she thought of me as a friend and a confidant, that meant more to me that I ever expected.
I recollected my senses and went out the room, just to see Livy frozen in front of me.
I look over her shoulder to see a furious Heather standing just few steps away, in a staring contest with Livy, showing disdain and so much hatred.
Heather
“You have such nerve to show your face here, Livy.” I said angrily.
My mind haven’t been at peace since Markian was admitted to the hospital this afternoon. I’m stressed out and completely exhausted, only to be told by Barbra that Livy is actually mentally unhealthy.
Of course Markian threw her out the minute she said it, but I looked at the reports and I was shocked.
Dissociative Identity Disorder? That’s like having multiple personalities or something. Which means, the Livy I thought I knew, might not have been the same Livy Markian or Daniel knew.
Suddenly, so many things made sense that I didn’t think was possible. No wonder she had tried to kill herself and Markian too.
She needs professional help, and until she gets some, she’ll be danger us all.
“Heather, I just came to see how he’s doing, that all. I was going to leave once I’ve seen him,”she replied unremorseful.
“Why? So you can plan another of his assassination? And which personality or identity is this?” I asked unfeelingly.
She had the nerve to be here, really.
How dare she stand in front of me after all that she had done and said to him, demanding that she just wants to see him?
That would be over my dead body.
“I didn’t try to kill him, Heather… I swear. I just…” she was about to spue more lies again and that agitated me.
“Enough, Livy! Just shut up and get out of here! It might not in my place to send you to a Confinement Institute, but if you take one more step closer to Markian, I’ll have you arrested for embezzlement of funds from Castlehill. I swear it. Get out of here!” I yelled, ignoring Daniel’s plea for me to calm down.
I can’t believe he was coming out from the same room she was. Fraternizing with the enemy is completely disservice, doesn’t he know that?
“Heather, I’m so sorry for hurting you and Markian and Daniel. But, if you’ll just hear me out, I…” she started again.
What does she want from us, really? Our company, our peace of mind, our lives?
