Chapter 84 Trading on Treacherous Waters 5

Book:Married To My Sister's Husband Published:2024-5-1

Present Day
Livy (2hours Later)
On my way to the station, I had few things in mind.
Would he really tell me the truth? I’m I simply just going to let the cops handle it or do I take matters into my own hand and end his miserable life in the most unpleasant way ever?
This man had caused me and my family so much pain than anyone could handle in a lifetime. Was I really just gonna let me spend the rest of his life in jail?
As I got to the station, everybody was congratulating and praising me for helping them catch a notorious cybercriminal, but all I really wanted was to see him with my 2 eyes.
I was asked to make a statement first at the desk, so I went and told the entire story to the officer in charge of taking my statement all over again.
Just remembering everything I had to go through, made my blood boil.
I couldn’t get the look in Markian’s eyes out of my head as he took a spoon full of the meal I cooked for him and laced with poison.
Even until he collapsed, he trusted me with every fiber of his being. Back then I couldn’t control my tears and now I was also finding it hard to control it too.
I was so relieved when I had gotten a text from the Detectives that handle this case, saying they had successfully apprehended Carlos Guillian.
I was nervous all morning, checking my phone every second to receive their text.
My fist were clenched so hard I almost cut through my skin with my nails- thankfully they were neither sharp nor long.
I finished my statement and had to wait for the questioning officer to finish questioning the brute before I could go see him.
I bit my lower lips in anticipation, until I saw 3 oddly dressed persons walked into the station. In the middle was a very young lady, maybe in her late teens with 2 older males by her sides. They weren’t wearing police uniforms and were dressed in corporate- suit and tie.
They walked straight to me and she introduced herself as Ava. They were from TNet telecoms and she is TNet’s top hacker and computer wizard.
The reason why I was hell bent on getting TNet on board with this case was all because of her.
She has an IQ of over 180 and graduated as best student in computer science from MIT Cambridge at the age of 20. She’s holding the best top hacker in the US for 2yrs in a row and is currently working for TNet.
She started working for me as of 10days ago and gladly she lived up to her record. Thanks to her, TNet would be taking all the credit for the apprehension of Blackace, Carlos Guillian.
It’s because of her that Carlos was in custody and I really wanted to show her my gratitude. I stretched out my hand and shook her soft fragile hands, and I thanked tremendously for her help.
She said she admired me the most and I couldn’t help but doubt her a bit. She was cool, intelligent and beautiful, and I wondered how someone can be all 3 at once and still admire me.
We soon started a conversation as other officers who helped out in the case joined in and praised her for her perseverance during the case.
The police were the ones who told me to corporate with Carlos’ demands and to act as though I stopped helping them and was acting solo. I had to make tough decisions just to see that a day like this would finally come.
Soon the Chief of Police called for me and I was led to his office. He offered me a seat and a cup of coffee which I thanked him for being so courteous.
“How is your husband doing?” He asked concerned.
“He’ll be fine… I hope. I’m just glad I managed to switch the meals without Carlos noticing.” I replied.
“The maid in your home, Stella, have been arrested. As you presumed, she was planted there by him too.” he stated.
I wasn’t surprised at the very least. Anytime something personal happened, she was the one I confided in.
I noticed she tried too hard to get close to me from the moment Markian and I moved into that mansion, so I played along.
Earlier today, I had made sure she was close to me when I laced the food with poison, and as I suspected, she reported it to Carlos.
I already had another food in the car, so I switched the two meal boxes and gave Markian the less lethal one.
I knew Carlos would be watching too, that was why I had to lace the other meal with a temporal paralyzing substance to make it seem like Markian truly collapsed immediately after he ate the food.
“You were very brave and calculating, I’ll commend. If not for the distraction you created, Ava wouldn’t have found that lope in time when Carlos got distracted. I really hope your husband understands your reason behind everything, and if you want I could go with you to explain things to him.” he genuinely suggested.
I sincerely hoped so too. Carlos tried to make me break up my marriage and all of these would be for nothing if I end up losing Markian or he goes back to hating me again.
I nodded and gave a halfhearted smile to the Chief. “It’s fine, I’ll explain things to him myself… thank you. I would like to have a word with him now, may I?” I requested, referring to Carlos.
“Of course. The officer outside would take you to him, immediately.” He confirmed and I stood up, thanking him I left his office.
The officer standing outside took me straight to the questioning room, where Carlos was and I saw his face again after so many years.
He looked like a ghost, very unkept and even more skinny than before. He used to sneak into our home to see Sophia years ago, back when we were still in high school.
My God… I hated him then and I still hate him so much more now.
“It’s good to see you look awful and completely shattered.” Carlos said with a smirk.
“You don’t want to know what you had me do before I was able to get you here. But I want to know one thing from you… did I really kill Sophia?” I asked sternly, with pure hatred for the man sitting opposite me.
“Of course you did. I can’t believe you and your mother covered up the truth and you’ve been walking around freely all these years. I might be a criminal- I don’t deny it, but people like you who acts as saints are really the worst, because nobody ever suspects you.” He replied with equal disdain towards me.
“That’s because, people like me are smarter than people like you and can’t get caught because, we never leave behind any trail.” I replied vehemently with a smirk, as I pulled out my phone from my purse and showed him the screen.
It was the text he had sent me after our last call 3days ago; You’ll receive a package from me soon, and don’t forget, I’m- always- watching.
Luckily, the text was the only traceable data that Ava could track which helped her minimize the search to just our zone.
His IP address were popping up all over the globe and it would have taken quite a long while to narrow it down, provided he would still be in one place and not mobile.
The reason he did all these was because he believes that I killed the ‘love of his life’, Sophia.
But, even though he said I killed her, he wasn’t being honest about the way he said it. There was something amiss and I was ready to get to the bottom of it.
I hated him so much and all I could think about on my way here was ripping his guts out.
But looking at how sickly and completely malnourished he looked, I pitied him and realized he meant nothing to me.
I won’t soil my hands with his blood- it’s filthy blood anyway. I’ll let the right authority decide what punishment he would face on charges of cybercrime, theft, blackmail, attempted murder and murder.
I stood up to leave, but when I got to the door he started laughing. I turned to him with questioning eyes and he said,
“I told you I had nothing more to lose. But you on the other hand will soon have your world crumble beneath you, and not even the Verc would be able to save you…”
My world would be better even though my dream of having a happy marriage might not come through. Because, I got another reason to want to live my best life and so far, it’s my best reason yet- I thought, as I placed my hand on my flat belly.
“Markian isn’t dead. In fact, he’ll live longer and happier than you ever will. The poison you gave me wasn’t what he consumed, because I never gave it to him. You tried to play God by being omnipresent, but you missed that tiny part, didn’t you?” I replied, as I watched the stupid smile fade from his stupid face.
I turned and left the room, leaving all of Carlos’ negative and vile energy behind. I never want to see him ever again.
I left the station and headed straight to the hospital to see Markian, but what I met was an even tougher battle I will have to face.
