It was finally here. The day that would define what my purpose in this life was, had finally arrived.
Heather had already returned from Shanghai to try and protect her position from me.
She seems pretty confident, and since she’s a very strategic person, for her to be so confident and hopeful means she had a plan up her sleeves.
This also means I’ll need to move fast, so as to hit hard.
It breaks me to do this against my own sister who had been nothing short of a support to me all my life.
She was the only one who didn’t judge me for being my father’s son, and loved me like a mother.
I wasn’t sure about this path I had chosen, but having met with Livy yesterday, after we both finished talking, I couldn’t help but feel like my decision was the right one.
She had seemed so carefree and normal, I didn’t want to bring up the matter that I received an anonymous document having photos of her in them.
But in the end, I had to show her the file since I didn’t want there to be any secrets between us.
I never expected her reaction as to my surprise she wasn’t at all fazed.
“Livy, do you know what this is? If the police get their hands on this, they could restart the investigation of your sister’s accident,” I stated quietly.
I was deeply concerned about her, but she didn’t answer me. She just sat there and stared blankly at the photos on her laps.
“I had to do some digging- into your past that is, to find out who could be trying to use this against you. Your arrest back at Dominican Republic Caribbean was not your first time getting arrested, was it? Livy, you have to tell me what happened? How did you get caught on camera burning your sister’s car with her inside?” I asked eagerly, now desperate to get a reply- any reply at all would do.
“So… now you know my secret, what are you planning to do with your new found knowledge?…” She questioned coldly, finally responding.
Why was she acting all cold and mean towards me, it’s unlike her at all.
And why would she of all people think I would use any of these against her?
Is she really like everyone else who judge me by my father’s mistake? Is she like Markian? Was I wrong about her after all?
I couldn’t say anything as I was frozen in place. I thought she of all people should understand by now, how it feels to be dimmed what you’re not.
“… Ah! I get it now. With the special board-meeting for the relegating of the CEO position of Shanghai group coming up soon, you need me to be on your side, right? Your sister already asked, but I told her I wished to be on the sidelines. You must have heard of it and decided to look for something to blackmail me with, right?…” She asked accusingly.
This can’t be Livy, something was wrong. I know her, she isn’t one to make such assumptions.
There must be something she’s trying to hide by suppressing her feelings.
“… Ok, fine. I’ll do it. I’ll vote in your favor. I know Heather anyway. Her nature only lets her keep people around whom she thinks would be of use to her in the future. Which is why my friendship with her was bound to end soon anyway, so I’ll help you instead. And in return you’ll have to keep my secret” she proposed casually.
“Livy stop! How… how could you even think that I would stoop that low when it comes to you? [sigh] I got these photos from an unknown sender, so I had to do some investigations to find out who would want to hurt you with this. I’m telling you this- I’m showing you all of these because I only want you to be safe. Felicity’s death was planned and pinned on you strategically, and if we had not been careful you would have taken the fall for it. I only worried about you… everything I do is all for you.” I replied feeling upset and sad that the one person I thought trusted me, didn’t.
“Am I also the reason why you plan to take over Castlehill?…” She asked to my surprise, but I didn’t say anything.
So, she knew? She knew all this while but acted so oblivious about my feelings for her.
“… If you can’t tell me why you want Castlehill, then don’t ask me why I’m in these photos. [Sighs]. Please… just don’t let another soul see these, and in return I’ll keep my word. You have my vote tomorrow at the special board-meeting.” She stated plainly without mincing words.
“Don’t worry, I wasn’t planning on letting anyone else see this anyway. The only reason I showed you was so you would know that you’ve got a target on your back by some very powerful people. You don’t have to vote for anyone if you don’t wish to, especially not me.” I replied genuinely.
The last thing I wanted was to make her uncomfortable. So, even though having her by my side tomorrow would mean a lot to me, I can’t have her doing things because she feels she’s indebted to me.
“But now I want to… Honestly, you’re the only person who’ve been by my side since all these started. You even know a terrible secret about me now, a secret that would have sent other people into a panic but, here you still are. I don’t fully understand why and even though I’m dying of curiosity to know why you’re still so nice to me, I don’t want to ask. I’m scared the truth might end up hurting us.” She said to me with a hint of sympathy in her eyes, and I understood.
She isn’t oblivious to my feelings at all, she’s just scared of the uncertainties that follows.
But I’ll keep trying, because if she could recognize my feelings for her without me telling her, maybe someday I would also be able to make her heart flutter without prejudice.
“And Markian? You know you’ll be going up against him too.” I asked, not wanting to make her an enemy to her husband if she can help it.
But if she was willingly doing all these knowing just what her stands with Markian would be, then I won’t stop her.
“I’m filing for a divorce. In no time now, he and I would be facing each other in court.” She replied, sending chills down my spine.
She wasn’t this certain back at Dominican Rep, so what changed after I left?
“What happened to you, Liv?” I asked, wanting to know why she was so adamant with her choices lately.
I can’t say I wasn’t happy to hear her say those words, but I needed to know the reason for her sudden courage and strong will.
“[Smirks]… I finally stopped dreaming- dreaming that Markian and I would be able to make a marriage out of the contract we signed, dreaming that my feelings would be enough to make a place in his life for me. I stopped dreaming- and I woke up. This- is me when I’m not dreaming. Conniving, maliciousness, traitorous is what I am when I stop dreaming. So, I have to ask you… does that still fit your liking?” she asked me sincerely wanting my opinion, I could see it in her eyes.
She wants to know if I’ll accept her despite everything I now knew about her. The woman I’m in love with seems to hold in high regard my opinion of her.
It felt like my heart was about to jump out of my chest for gladness, and they were beating just for her.
“No matter what you’ve done, who you’ve been, and who you are now, you’ll always have me on your side Liv, I promise.” I confessed in all honesty.
We both sat quietly on the dog park bench after that as we watched and smiled at people who were walking their dogs, and others playing fetch.
But that didn’t stop me from stealing glances of her whenever the gentle breeze rustles her hair as they meet, and I relished in her eagerness to tuck her hair behind her ears so she could see properly every single moment.
Her skin was radiant and her smile was breathtaking, so I decided.
I turned her face towards mine and held it in place with my thumb and index finger below her chin as I aided her in tucking away those straight long brown strands of her hair that kept sweeping over her gorgeous face.
It may take a while and few more sacrifices to win this woman’s heart, but I know when I finally do, it would be worth it.
