Markian
Arriving at the station again, all I wanted to do was just to get her out of immediately. It smelt terrible and the fact that she could spend the night here aggravated all my senses.
I felt like a failure, that even though I never wanted to put her in the position to make any statement proving her innocence whatsoever, she still have to.
I mean what’s the purpose of her being Markian Winfrey’s wife if she can’t even get the respect that comes with the title.
I was already very upset seeing the state she was in, so I order everyone to get out of the room. No way I’m getting a confession out of her with all of them present.
It’s humiliating enough to have my wife in an interrogating room, but getting her interrogated in their presence would just be even more insult to my pride.
When she told me she wasn’t ok, I wanted to tell her how sorry i was for being so late. But instead of comforting her, she started comforting me.
Why can’t I win with her? Whenever I try to be cool and good to her, she just finds a way to redirect my efforts and ends up looking cool and cute instead- making me want to let her into my world.
“I need to get you out of here, but you have to tell me everything that happened, starting from the night of the party…” I requested.
I noticed how pale her face turned as she nervously looked down on her laps- releasing my hands she held. She’s suffering and I hated it. I hated the idea of questioning her in the first place.
I took her hands back in mine gently and held them supportingly,
“… Livy, it’s ok. I’m here now, and I won’t leave your side I promise.”
She raised up her eyes and looked at me, and with a sigh she finally started.
“At the party, when I saw how much Felicity was flirting with you and you weren’t stopping her, I- got- jealous. And since I couldn’t say anything I was frustrated, so much so I grabbed a bottle of wine and ran out. I found myself at the back of the mansion and just… sat there lost with a deep desire to keep drinking. I chunked the whole bottle down in minutes and immediately felt the effect as I became drunk…”
At the word ‘drunk’, she looked away from me embarrassed at her confession.
She told me exactly how she felt and the reason why she told me she wanted a divorce that night. She said she had thought Felicity and I had sex, so in order not to be a tagger she wanted to set me free.
She told me about her meeting with Felicity earlier today, and how they both had forgiven each other and held no resentment left towards each other.
She told me she headed straight to the hotel and waited for me to return so she could apologize for everything.
“You made a call when you were drunk. Who did you call telling ‘just like last time, make it clean’? They also texted you a reply, ‘the job is done’?” I asked, clearly to close that gap.
See, a Frankie had picked one of my calls on my way here, thankfully. So, she explained everything to me.
“Today was suppose to be your birthday. I wanted to give you a surprise celebration- something romantic, so I called Frankie’s Place. They helped me throw a surprise party once for my mom, but she didn’t come home from work that and her assistant called me to tell me that my mom was in a terrible mood. I didn’t want to aggreviate her further, so I called Frankie’s place to help me put out every single decoration before my mom returned home. I didn’t think they would make it on time but they did, and by the time mom and I arrived home, everything was back to normal…” she explained explicitly.
“… I’m so sorry Markian. I was so jealous and angry and drunk that I called them to cancel, even though they’d already arrived here in Dominican Republic…” She explained apologetically.
I looked at her in amusement, as she sincerely explained what the suspicious call was for.
Frankie had told me that they had already arrived here in Dominican Republic and had already started preparations. She told me she got a new assistant recently who forgets to check the voicemails. So, by the time Livy’s voicemail had gotten to her, it was kinda late as everything was already setup.
They got Livy’s message this morning, so they hurried back to the site to clear up the place.
I can’t believe Livy had gone through all the stress as to fly Frankie and her team down here just to setup a romantic birthday surprise for me. I was truly touched.
“… Please Markian, you have to believe me. I had no hand in Felicity’s death, I promise. Do… you believe me?” she questioned as a tickle of tear trickledown her cheek.
I squeezed her hands gently to assure her that I trusted her completely.
I saw a sweet smile slowly creep on her lips and she looked so cute I was fighting myself from pushing away the table between us and kissing her so passionately she would know just how much effect she has on me.
Right now, she wasn’t worried about the officers believing her, she was only worried about me believing her.
“You’ve heard her answers! If you don’t mind, I’d like to take my wife home immediately!” I yelled audibly so everyone outside the room would know that I was done interrogating her.
Mr. Gracía- who had just arrived at the station few moments before Livy’s statement, would finally be cleared on the fact that he had made a grave mistake.
Soon the door swung open and I saw the Chief of Police, Daniel, his lawyer, the officer that interrogated Livy and Mr. Gracía walked in.
The officer was then ordered by the Chief to uncuff Livy and let her go. I walked up to her side of the table and held her hand. She looked at me in surprise as I pulled her up.
She grabbed something with her other hand from her lap and followed me out the door. But before we left the room, I turned to Daniel with a smirk and said, “I’m sure you can handle the rest of the paperwork,” and left the station.
Our drive back to the hotel was rather quiet and I hated it. I knew she was embarrassed by her confession at the station, but I really wanted to hear her voice. Could it be that I missed her?
I took quick glances at her but she didn’t notice, she was absorbed in her thoughts as she gently stroked god knows what was in her hand.
“Why did you refuse to answer the officers before I arrived, huh? Do you think you were doing yourself any good by keeping quiet? You are Markian Winfrey’s wife, Markian Winfrey. Such title should not be taken lightly, which means there are certain places you shouldn’t be seen at for a long time, why don’t you understand that simple fact?” I asked curiously wanting any conversation at all.
Sophy would have definitely answered anything than to spend even a minute in that station. She even used my name to get endorsement deals from top international modeling agencies.
If Livy had told them that she was my wife, she wouldn’t have been cuffed and dragged to the station, so I needed to know her reason for keeping silent.
“I didn’t want anyone to know about our marriage. You made it clear that if that happens, then it’s over between us.” She replied sternly.
“And you think you are amazing by keeping quiet huh? What is the point of being Mrs Markian Winfrey if you can’t even use the benefits that comes with it? Were you just acting like a submissive obedient wife, or are you just plain stupid not to understand that i’d rather sacrifice an arm than to let my name ride in the mud?!” I asked irritated for some unknown reason.
“No- it’s just that ‘sigh’… thanks for saving me tonight. I was really happy you came there on your own and I didn’t have to expose the secret myself.” She gloated.
